Imposing statue in a beautiful park. For those with no religious associations, it is a beautiful 'piece' of art. Close by though are industries making place noisy but there is a really pleasant small forest beyond the guards at the entrance to the statue and is calming enough

While searching places to visit in Nagoya, came across this place. The buddha statue here is almost similar size to avidly popular Kamakura statue but the Nagoya statue is relatively unknown. The place has nice park, small pond and a few swings making it a perfect picnic destination for friends and family.

Our first stop after reaching Nagoya. Not that difficult to come here; Meitetsu Tokoname line and alight Shurakuen Station. A very small station and once out you can see聚楽園公園 (Shurakuen Park). Not a big one but from here you can see part of the Big Buddha, which is less than 10 minutes walk slight upslope with steps.
The Buddha was guarded by 2 magnificent guardian deities. The big Shurakuen Buddha was constructed to commemorate the marriage of Emperor Showa. Some noted that it is even larger than the Great Buddha of Kamakura (but I have not been here..) . The statue is a popular symbol of Tokai City and much visited by nearby residents. The Shurakuen Park has some interesting features like a Garden (with playground),a shrine and even a small Teahouse where you can also take a break and enjoy a cup of matcha in the serene ambivence. :>
It was early summer but weather still a cooling 10 deg when we were here, It was rather quiet as we strolled within the premise, undisyrubed We strolled about the higher ground and depart via the other route downslope, only to appear at the train station again.

This sitting Buddha is not very well known in Japan, it's easy to get to from Nagoya station.

I did drive from Toyohashi and I spent an hour to see and that was cool.

I always looked up when I was heading to Centrair (Central Japan International Airport) for the Tokoname flight. I had always wanted to see it up close, and this time I had to go nearby for work, so I stopped by. There are parks around, and no temples or other religious facilities. It's just a big Buddha statue sitting on top of a mountain. It was bigger than I had imagined when I saw it up close.
