When we visited, no tours were available, and we were unable to get close to the Palace, so I’m unable to rate it highly.
Since the riots and the storming of the Congress building earlier this year security has significantly increased at Government and other important buildings.
We had to park near the Palace Hotel and walk past a security point, and we’re allowed to take photographs only a few hundred meters from the Palace. There was more security in front of us.
The Palace is one of many buildings built by Oscar Niemeyer in Brasilia. It was nice that at least we were able to see it albeit at a distance.

Our city tour brought us to the grounds of the official presidential residence-- but of course we were still some distance from the building itself. Our guide, Iraquemes, explained that the architect Oscar Neimeyer adopted curved elements here in tribute to the traditional hammocks used in Minas Gerais. Lovely.

This is the official residence of the President of Brazil and was the first building to be completed by Oscar Niemeyer in 1958. Unfortunately, we were unable to enter because but did manage to see it from an official viewing post. It was still worth seeing.

Beautiful Niemeyer even from a distance but the Palace is still closed. But if you look for Niemeyer then also look for Bulcao. His Azulejos and murals are extraordinary.

Just swung by today in an uber and it is closed due to the current impeachment proceedings. Enjoyed the rest of Brasilia and modern architecture though.

The official residence of the President of Brazil is another modernist building designed by Oscar Nedermeyer and built on Lake Paranoa. The marble columns have become a symbol of the city. On the day we visited, we could only view from a distance, but we got a close up view of the guard, a member of the Dragons of Independance.

This palace was designed by Oscar Niemeyer and was the first building in Brazil to be inaugurated, even before the city itself.

Very inteeresting spot in the city of Brasilia! I was lucky to participate the guard exchange and taking of flags. Big garden with animals end fresh air!

I went on the public tour and absolutely loved the palace - it was a personal highlight of my trip Brasilia. You really get to see Niemeyer's architecture and design at its glory - as the palace is amazingly well kept (for obvious reasons as it's the President's residence!).
The public tours are on Wednesday afternoons. The tours are free, really well organised - however they are in Portuguese. The important thing is you get to see the interiors and the grounds, and at the end of the tour we also got really high quality English language brochures with amazing photography and some key facts.
We advised by by our hotel staff (and also the guide book) to arrive around 2pm to get ourselves on the tour that starts at 3pm. This worked: once you arrive you get allocated a place in a group, and wait for your turn. For us the wait was about 45min long. The waiting area is comfortable with benches in the shade, however there's no cafe, so on a hot day it might be worth bringing some water with you.
The tour itself involves a 30 minute guided walk around the palace (including a modernist private chapel), and its grounds, and also a short trip to the vice-president's palace next door. Allow 2.5 hours for the whole trip including the wait.
(It is also worth noting that in reality it seemed that the tours had already started even before 2pm as they were already running when we arrived, so it might be worth trying to arrive even earlier.)
Alvarada Palace is on the edge of the city, an easy 10 minute walk from Brasilia Palace & The Royal Tulip hotels. But if you are staying elsewhere, get a taxi or bus 104 from the rodoviaria. It is really worth visiting!

Going inside it's complicated as its only allowed Wednesday's , if you have the opportunity you should go .
Otherwise be at the front of the palace 5:30pm and watch the flag removal process by the presidential soldiers . It's quite interesting and you might catch a nice sunset too

olá, na verdade minha pergunta é sobre hospedagem. é que o local que vi é mais proximo dos predios governamentais que os demais, que ficam no "eixo". o hostel fica num bairro chamado vila planalto, avenida rabelo, uma rua em frente a um parque e eu gostaria de saber se lá é legal pra hospedar, circular a toda hora... enfim, se é seguro, essas coisas...

Boa noite, Cynthia. Morei em Brasília-DF por sete anos e posso te dizer que não existe lugar totalmente seguro no Distrito Federal. Aliás,quase não existe lugar seguro no mundo. No entanto, eu ficaria numa boa no Vila Planalto. É um excelente lugar para quem está visitando Brasília-DF, pois fica colado ao Palácio do Planalto, que é uma atração turística, muito próximo ao STF, esplanada dos Ministérios, Eixo Monumental; é bem próximo à Asa Norte, incluindo aí a UnB e fica fácil também o acesso à Asa Sul, Setor de Embaixadas, Lago Norte, Lago Sul - onde boa parte dos políticos moram e também Nelson Piquet etc. Enfim, considero a localização EXCELENTE! Quanto à segurança, sugiro que você tenha cuidado como em qualquer outro lugar, mas não deixe de se hospedar lá por causa disso. É isso. Espero ter ajudado.
