Great stay!

Reviewed 1 week ago
We just returned from a nice quick visit. We hadn't stayed here in the past because we often found the hotel to have a 7 night minimum. This trip there was no minimum so we were able to do just 3 nights. The room was comfortable and clean. The front desk employees were very helpful every time we spoke with them. We enjoyed the lounge chairs around the property. The pool was heated, but not overly hot (my son went in, we skipped). It was a very easy walk in to town and we even walked to the beach twice. The free continental breakfast was just enough and is a nice touch. Recommend for families!

I have been staying at the Hawk with my family for decades. It is usually a seamless pleasant experience from check in to check out.
The staff has historically been wonderful, friendly and accommodating.
However this visit was very different. The woman on the desk Tanya, I believe is her name was extraordinarily rude, short tempered and condescending.
While we were attempting to check in she was berating a coworker in full earshot of those of us who were beginning what is usually a magical time away.
She then proceeded to scold an older guest who was simply attempting to ask her a question.
This behavior is so unlike any that we have experienced in the past.
We managed to check in with grumpy Tonya who could not even manage a smile to anyone.
While heading to our rooms we ran into Don. It was so good to see him back as we missed him last year.
He was as lovely as she was rude. He welcomed us and even offered help with our luggage.
We only wished that he had been the first face that we saw.
I have been a manager of people for 30 years. I would never allow a front desk manager whose job is to be customer facing to behave in the manner in which she did.
The rest of our stay was lovely. The rooms are always impeccable and everyone else was lovely.
Also, please put the clock back at the pool.
We will see you again in August and hope that your front desk staff has taken a course in hospitality.

This resort is our new.go to place to relax. The owner has thought of everything for a comfortable stay.
First the room: We chose an oceanfront and it was hard to leave our spacious deck and the sounds of the ocean. It was a cool night so we shut the air conditioner off and opened our windows for the ocean breeze. Cannot get better than this. You won’t be sorry for splurging on the oceanfront room!
Second: The property is immaculately groomed with lovely flower beds, plenty of quaint seating areas and a beautiful walking path. So relaxing! There is an outdoor pool but we did not use.
There is a continual breakfast served and it was just enough to start our day! And the staff is friendly and helpful!

Once again, I just cannot say enough good things about this resort and its staff and how relaxing and refreshing it is to vacation at the Sparhawk. It is an oasis of quiet rest, "Far From the Madding Crowd."

We enjoyed our 27th year at this wonderful resort in June of 2023 and, as always, we are glad we did. Further we stayed in June and again in the Fall of both '22 and of '23 so I have incorporated additional information from those Fall stays as well (I simply forgot to write a review for '22).

As always, everyone on the staff is unfailingly friendly, happy and helpful. You feel welcome from the moment you step over the threshold. Be sure to ask the staff for their recommendations for attractions and most especially for dining. The housekeeping is prompt, detailed and superlative. Our room in the Barbara Dean was, as it always is, immaculate. As I have said before I say again, the level of cleanliness is absolutely equal to a Ritz-Carlton.

There is a lovely continental breakfast and coffee and tea all day. The pool is heated, really quite warm, and, especially if you get there when it first opens at eight AM, quiet and not at all crowded. The grounds and the flowers are unfailingly beautiful and well-kept. And the views of the Atlantic are always grand, from the grounds, the Marginal Way and the balconies of the rooms. It is remarkably peaceful and quiet even though it is on Shore Road and abuts Marginal Way - you can sit in a chair on the grounds or the balconies and read a book in peace, watching the clouds roll by.

I do recommend that you stay early or late in The Season. Ogunquit is lovely and quiet in June, lazy Summer days, but by July or August is quite bustling, mind, not at all bad, it is just a lot busier and more crowded.

Finally we stayed for four or five days in '22 and again in '23, in early September and early October. The Sparhawk was just enjoyable and quiet as during June. Almost all of the restaurants and attractions are still open. Interestingly Ogunquit is still quite busy in those early Fall months, there were days that as, well, bustling as Ogunquit ever gets in June. Of course it was cooler than June but really not terribly much so; of course you'll need to bring a sweater and a warmer or lined parka but that being said the weather was really quite mild. So please consider a Fall long weekend at some point I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

We have been coming to the Sparhawk for several years now, and always felt that it was a wonderful place in so many ways. The location could not be better, with beautiful views and convenience to shops and restaurants, as well as the Marginal Way. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the grounds and landscaping are gorgeous. However, this was the first year that we felt a certain degree of disappointment in our stay. We were feeling that the hotel could use some upgrades. When we made our reservation, we were told that the heated pool would still be open during the week we were coming. However, when we arrived, we found that it had closed the week before due to the expense of heating the pool in the cooler weather. Our room was the same as ever, however one of the more cramped ones. For the first time, we were really bothered by noise from the room above us. We could hear the television and walking until wee hours of the morning. My husband was pretty exhausted by the end of the trip. The locks on the doors need to be modernized. They still use brass keys, and I found it hard to unlock the door. The patio door was almost impossible to lock, as well, even though instructions are posted. A coffee machine in the room and iron have been suggested year after year but never appear. We appreciate the wonderful people, such as Denise in the breakfast room, who really seems to love her job. I am sure we will be back, but will be more careful about rooms when making a reservation.

Room tip: Ask about room specifics. All the rooms are varied.

My daughter and i have been coming here for years and love it. We always get oceanfront motel room and its always neat and clean and well stocked. The refrigerator is handy. The balcony is great to just sit and watch the ocean, sunsets and the activity on the beach. Its also located near lots of shops and restaurants, so can walk to it all, including the beach and its right on the beginning of the Marginal way, so can walk into Perkins Cove. See you next September!

Room tip: lots of traffic during high season, staying at the Sparhawk we can walk to everything. I always visit after Labor Day, not so many people.
