All extras “fluff” like bedspreads, show pillows, and any paper items were removed.
Choices to have housekeeping services were offered OR put your towels and garbage outside your room everyday and you would receive a replenishment.
This gave you the option of having no one in your room besides yourself. Amenities were always available, shampoo, conditioner, shower cap, soap, and lotion.
All housekeepers had masks on at all times and stayed at a 6ft distance always.
Office people always had face protection on at all times.
Breakfast was different than it always had been, but this needed to be done because of the virus and closeness in the dining room. We were able to circle our choices everyday and it was not an imposition to eat outside or in our room or at some tables in the dining room. Hot coffee and tea was available all day into the evening.
We totally enjoyed our service at “Covid style” Sparhawk, because we knew they we doing there best to keep us all safe from this virus..... and we appreciate all that they did for us as vacationers at this BEAUTIFUL PLACE BY THE SEA.

We have stayed in Ogunquit before but not on Shore Rd., the reason we choose this location was how close it was to the beach, restaurants, shopping having the ability to walk most everywhere rather than drive, plus of course its proximity to marginal way cannot be over looked. It is only fair to say the Sparhawk far exceeded our expectations to the point we extended our stay an extra day. The property has beautifully manicured grounds with gardens in full bloom everywhere to marvel at, with tennis courts, shuffle board and a large outdoor pool on site and there is a wonderful continental breakfast available daily. They staff is just so friendly and pleasant, our stay was during the COVID pandemic but this resort had every guest’s safety and well being in mind making operational adjustment from housekeeping to meals to comply with state and health codes to protect the safety of all their customers and employees, so we never once felt a need for concern. I really felt as if I had gone off to a time when life was simple, so we were able to completely relax and unwind.
If you can get a room here, book it – you will not regret a single second of it! We hope to come back again next year to soak up all to good summer vibes this perfect New England Resort has to offer!
Nonetheless, last summer their pool was a saving grace on the hottest days and we created some great memories so we decided to return. When we asked at checkout, we were told they use an old fashioned system of mailing out letters in January to notify if they can accommodate your request. We finally received a letter in January, which was quite strangely worded but seems to be saying that not only could they not accommodate our reservation request but they don’t want us to come back. There was something about wanting to meet and respect the needs of the staff and other guests in choosing who they welcome as guests.
I’m just dumbfounded and trying to figure out if we somehow offended them or were bad guests. I suspect that they don’t like families with young children (they seem to pride themselves on having guests that have been coming for 25+ years so you can guess what demographic they’re serving). I also wonder if they didn’t like my phone call on our first day requesting that they come vacuum the room or if I could vacuum it myself. My kids were about to eat candy off the floor left behind by a previous guest. I also found sunglasses and a tennis ball under the couch, so clearly the room was barely cleaned and certainly not vacuumed before our arrival.
I am always going to respectful of other guests and staff, but I didn’t realize I wasn’t “meeting the needs” of the staff and other guests during our stay, nor did I realize that was my responsibility while vacationing.
The Sparhawk seems to take pride in their old fashioned ways, including their system of sending out letters for reservations. They even demand a mailed check, rather than just letting one give a credit card over the phone to hold the spot. They constantly are saying “this is how we’ve always done it” as if this is be a point of pride. But honestly, it’s not quaint nor appealing, it’s just old, dated, and annoying. When people are paying that much money, they expect a little more.
It’s hard to believe the reviews are so positive because I can’t imagine we are the only ones who have had this experience.

We were on the second floor of the Ireland building. The views out to sea from out balcony were great, and watching the tide go in and out was mesmerizing.
Rooms were clean and comfortable. Bathroom was nice and newly renovated. We declined housekeeping due to Covid and had towels replaced as needed.
Only negatives - the wood furniture could stand to be replaced. It really detracts from the look. The blankets, as noted by some other reviewers, need to go. (Even the Holiday Inn Express in Sturbridge had luxurious fluffy comforters in clean duvets.)
Location was absolutely perfect. Walk to literally everything, including the Marginal Way, Perkins Cove, downtown shops and restaurants, and the ocean.
