We went up to the area for one night (Monday). We were welcomed warmly and they had a room available in our budget. I was told they redo a certain amount of rooms each year and we got one of them. It was super clean, all redone, firm comfy bed, balcony porch with seating and table overlooking the ocean (I never expected ocean front on a whim within budget!!) I liked that the bathroom sink and closet space was separate from toilet and shower, signs explained that due to Covid you should take all the toiletries that they leave out for you home as well as the toilet paper that's left, and there was a mini fridge and magnifying wall mirror. The entrance area was tiled for shoes, too. Continental breakfast was offered and included in the price, grounds were well maintained and clean with an outdoor pool and plenty of seating throughout the grounds. Tennis and shuffleboard were also there. It was directly on the marginal way. Overall, we were very happy and will return!

Before we started out, we knew this trip would be different because of Covid. But knowing the level of excellence we have enjoyed year after year, we knew we would be taken care of......, and we were, for 10 days !
All extras “fluff” like bedspreads, show pillows, and any paper items were removed.
Choices to have housekeeping services were offered OR put your towels and garbage outside your room everyday and you would receive a replenishment.
This gave you the option of having no one in your room besides yourself. Amenities were always available, shampoo, conditioner, shower cap, soap, and lotion.
All housekeepers had masks on at all times and stayed at a 6ft distance always.
Office people always had face protection on at all times.
Breakfast was different than it always had been, but this needed to be done because of the virus and closeness in the dining room. We were able to circle our choices everyday and it was not an imposition to eat outside or in our room or at some tables in the dining room. Hot coffee and tea was available all day into the evening.
We totally enjoyed our service at “Covid style” Sparhawk, because we knew they we doing there best to keep us all safe from this virus..... and we appreciate all that they did for us as vacationers at this BEAUTIFUL PLACE BY THE SEA.

Upon looking for an escape from reality, we booked a room at the Sparhawk Oceanfront Resort, which proved to be the very best thing we did all year. We arrived on Sunday Aug. 2, 2020 to this very busy part of Shore Road only to turn into the quite serenity of the Sparhawk parking lot. We knew our arrival was too early for check in but we wanted to see if we could park our car and walk to Perkins cove for a bite to eat. To our great pleasure our room was actually available, since this was our 1st time staying here we did not know what to expect but the moment we crossed over the threshold of our room we were in heaven. We walked into a bright sun soaked room with a king bed in the Oceanfront building with a balcony, quite literally, over the water. We had arrived at high tide so the water was all the way up to the rock wall under our balcony, talk about a great first impression! The bathroom offered plenty of space with the bathroom separate from the sinks, counters and the closet, allowing for additional privacy. Each morning we woke up and sat on our balcony to watch the sun rise over the ocean and in the evening we could see the moon come up into the sky where it cast a glow over us, the ever changing landscape provided amazing views of the Ogunquit beach, river and ocean that we never got tired of looking at just by stepping out the screen door of our room. If that isn’t peace and tranquility at its best, then I don’t know what is <3. The only things that was missing was the sound of calming spa music playing low in the back ground as you walked the property, lol.

We have stayed in Ogunquit before but not on Shore Rd., the reason we choose this location was how close it was to the beach, restaurants, shopping having the ability to walk most everywhere rather than drive, plus of course its proximity to marginal way cannot be over looked. It is only fair to say the Sparhawk far exceeded our expectations to the point we extended our stay an extra day. The property has beautifully manicured grounds with gardens in full bloom everywhere to marvel at, with tennis courts, shuffle board and a large outdoor pool on site and there is a wonderful continental breakfast available daily. They staff is just so friendly and pleasant, our stay was during the COVID pandemic but this resort had every guest’s safety and well being in mind making operational adjustment from housekeeping to meals to comply with state and health codes to protect the safety of all their customers and employees, so we never once felt a need for concern. I really felt as if I had gone off to a time when life was simple, so we were able to completely relax and unwind.

If you can get a room here, book it – you will not regret a single second of it! We hope to come back again next year to soak up all to good summer vibes this perfect New England Resort has to offer!

A few years in a row, we were able to sneak in last minute and stayed for a week. It is very expensive and definitely not worth the cost as the rooms are bare bones and dirty with dated furnishings and noisy ineffective AC, a really bad continental breakfast, no place to sit and enjoy the lawn overlooking the ocean (compared to the next door Anchorage’s lovely lawn with tons of chairs and large umbrellas), a tiny fridge in the bathroom (disgusting), and unfriendly unhelpful staff. There’s also no laundry, which proves challenging on a beach trip. Room service was poor and often we didn’t receive the towels we requested and had to call the front desk. We were scolded for not having filled out the request sheet (even though we had).

Nonetheless, last summer their pool was a saving grace on the hottest days and we created some great memories so we decided to return. When we asked at checkout, we were told they use an old fashioned system of mailing out letters in January to notify if they can accommodate your request. We finally received a letter in January, which was quite strangely worded but seems to be saying that not only could they not accommodate our reservation request but they don’t want us to come back. There was something about wanting to meet and respect the needs of the staff and other guests in choosing who they welcome as guests.

I’m just dumbfounded and trying to figure out if we somehow offended them or were bad guests. I suspect that they don’t like families with young children (they seem to pride themselves on having guests that have been coming for 25+ years so you can guess what demographic they’re serving). I also wonder if they didn’t like my phone call on our first day requesting that they come vacuum the room or if I could vacuum it myself. My kids were about to eat candy off the floor left behind by a previous guest. I also found sunglasses and a tennis ball under the couch, so clearly the room was barely cleaned and certainly not vacuumed before our arrival.

I am always going to respectful of other guests and staff, but I didn’t realize I wasn’t “meeting the needs” of the staff and other guests during our stay, nor did I realize that was my responsibility while vacationing.

The Sparhawk seems to take pride in their old fashioned ways, including their system of sending out letters for reservations. They even demand a mailed check, rather than just letting one give a credit card over the phone to hold the spot. They constantly are saying “this is how we’ve always done it” as if this is be a point of pride. But honestly, it’s not quaint nor appealing, it’s just old, dated, and annoying. When people are paying that much money, they expect a little more.

It’s hard to believe the reviews are so positive because I can’t imagine we are the only ones who have had this experience.

Thank you for your feedback. We are proud of our high standards and great guest experiences which are validated by the overwhelming number of guests who know and appreciate our property. Your submission of this negative review as a retaliation is unfortunate. We wish you the best of luck in the future.

The Sparhawk is a nice place run by nice folks. All of the pandemic precautions one would expect are in place. Grounds are lovely and include adequate parking in a nice and level lot - no cramming cars into awkward spots. Pool, tennis, shuffleboard, picnic area, flowers, and more. Many rooms with balconies that are literally immediately over the seawall - no rooms closer to the water in Ogunquit. If you like being lulled to sleep to the sound of the waves, this is the place to stay. Rooms are decent size and clean. Some renovations for modernization, but furniture and televisions still need updating. Breakfast was great - you specify what you want the night before and the next morning a grab and go breakfast bag to your specification awaits you and your desired time. Proximity to Ogunquit restaurants and shops could not be better. Prices slightly higher than most other local hotels, but worth it. Will certainly stay here again.

We had a really nice stay. (Some of the reviews below shock me. Yes the Sparhawk is basically a motel but so are virtually all the places in Ogunquit. If you want the Ritz Carlton you’re in the wrong town!)

We were on the second floor of the Ireland building. The views out to sea from out balcony were great, and watching the tide go in and out was mesmerizing.

Rooms were clean and comfortable. Bathroom was nice and newly renovated. We declined housekeeping due to Covid and had towels replaced as needed.

Only negatives - the wood furniture could stand to be replaced. It really detracts from the look. The blankets, as noted by some other reviewers, need to go. (Even the Holiday Inn Express in Sturbridge had luxurious fluffy comforters in clean duvets.)

Location was absolutely perfect. Walk to literally everything, including the Marginal Way, Perkins Cove, downtown shops and restaurants, and the ocean.

We were only here one night, but location and view were enough to wish that we'd stayed longer. Flew into Portland, and meandered down to Ogunquit after traipsing through Cape Elizabeth. Distance from the airport without stops is 45 minutes. We had an oceanfront room which was comfortable, safe, and roomy, although it lacked a coffee maker and refrigerator. View was great once we figured out our initial peek out the balcony was low tide. Later in the afternoon, the ocean was surging up to the wall ten feet from the balcony -- very cool! The Marginal Way is literally right next to the resort, parking is right on site, and the continental breakfast area had both indoor/outdoor seating. Since I'm not into empty carbs, we opted for Loveshack Juicing right across the street. Ogunquit is quaint and has a relaxed vibe that I'd like to see again. Would return to this location.

We just wrapped up our stay here and it was simply awesome! We have been coming to Ogunquit for years and this place, by far, is our favorite. Gorgeous ocean views with a balcony to enjoy the fabulous views and sounds. The room was clean and spacious, and that view.....did I mention that already??!! They do offer a continental breakfast but because of Covid-19 you just filled out a form the night before of what you wanted and went down in the morning to pick it up. You could eat in the spaced out dining room or deck area if you wanted or you could bring it back to your room to enjoy. It’s close to everything in town so need to drive anywhere. Can’t say enough about this place and we will definitely be back.

We arrived the day after Memorial Day to avoid the crowds. This was our first time at the Sparhawk. We couldn’t have been more pleased with our oceanfront accommodations. I believe it must have been a refurbished room because EVERYTHING was in top notch condition. The balcony was awesome. Inside the room they had two very comfortable chairs pointing towards the window overlooking the ocean. We left the windows open and could hear the waves crashing during high tide as we slept. A slice of heaven. The was staff super friendly.
This is most definitely on our repeat list.

A beautiful hotel, with a fantastic ocean view! We spent 2 nights in the main building facing the ocean. The grounds are nicely landscaped and the room was spotless. It's an older complex, but quiet, charming and impressively maintained. Our room faced the ocean, not 10 yards away! We could could sit on our deck and enjoy the view of the beach and take in the salt air! It was warm enough that we could leave the french door open and listen to the ocean roar all night. Continental bfast was included in the cozy dining room or outdoor deck. As a bonus we were a 5 minute walk to the downtown shops and restaurants. A great value, great location. We'll be back!
