Relaxing in the shade

Reviewed Jul 7, 2016
Loved this old style Florida accommodation! We arrived on July 3 and stayed for 3 nights. I loved the palm trees and the shade that they provided! Very unusual to have a few shade trees on a FL beach! As other reviewers have mentioned, this isn't a 5 star resort, but nicer than I expected! Nice ceramic tile floors and kitchen. The shower lever can use some work, but overall the accommodations were fine. Maybe a 3 star?? But the fact that you can walk down a few steps and have your feet in sugary white sand and people watch from your front porch was fantastic! The managers live onsite so they can quickly handle any situation that you may have. Jack and Sharon are friendly and accessible. In fact they made a wonderful July 4th cookout and invited all to join in. We had pork, potatoes, shrimp and other sides - it was great! Don't expect concierge or luggage service, but friendly conversation and a helpful attitude! Since I live in FL, I hope to be back soon! Thanks!

If you are looking for high class this is not for you, but if you like old style beach front accommodations and friendly managers Jack and Sharon) at reasonable prices this could be your answer. Pets are accepted and there are many additional amenities such as beach chairs, small tables, umbrellas, boogie boards etc. Just a few steps from the gulf water. My rating reflects the fact that the place is old and not as clean as a Hampton Inn, but very well run and serviceable especially for those of us who like to take our pets in occasion. We were in unit 2 and are thoroughly enjoying our 3 day stay. Enjoy the picture taken on an overcast day from our porch.

This is what I call "old Florida" - homey little rooms in a large house (actually 2 houses side by side). Each one has it's own exterior door. We've stayed here twice and gotten room #11. You are literally right on the beach! You can sit in your room (when it's too hot) and watch the ocean waves. When you step down the stairs, your next step is on the sand. Very few places offer this kind of view and proximity for this price.

For those who are picky, this is probably not your kind of place. It says "resort", but honestly it's a little dated and you follow the "beach cottage rules" which means: clean up after yourself in the kitchen, gather all the sheets & towels and put them by the door before you leave. I grew up going to beach cottages in Florida and this was pretty standard, but for those used to staying in 5 star resorts, this can come as a shock. No housekeeping each day - you are on your own. But I prefer it that way personally so that suits me fine.

They are dog friendly. Lots of people walk their dogs on this part of the beach. Jack & Sharon are helpful when you need something. We had a burned out bulb and Jack brought us one in minutes. No nonsense, good managers they are.

We love our visits to this place and already plan to return!

Room tip: No wi-fi access in room #11 - you have to walk to the end of the porch to connect.

We arrived without a reservation and were happy to find the Wild Wave. It couldn't have worked out any better. The perfect place to relax and enjoy the beach. We asked Jack where we could find a used book store and he showed us to his selection of books - didn't need anything else to make our trip complete. Close to a Publix grocery store and a delightful ten minute stroll down the beach to a great restaurant and bar. Funky, small resort without any frills - just what we were looking for. We hope to return in December.

Our group of bridge players from all over will again descend on the Wild Wave for a weekend of fun, food, and a fabulous time in October ! It is coming home again to sit in the sun, eat great home cooked food, and be at our beach destination of choice ! Jack and Sharon take care of us like the great guests we are ....and they should most of us are old enough to be their parents ! We would not consider going any place else !

Room tip: There is no bad room :)

as many others have indicated, the location is perfect. you can literally walk from your room and have sand in your toes. While initially Jack was very pleasant, his mood and attitude turned quite caustic before our three day stay was over; something to do with people leaving because of bugs in the room and dirty sheets and refusing to pay for the room. We had the same room we always have had and I will say it was in much better shape than in past years a testament to the work that had been done by Jack and Sharon; Sharon is a wonderful hostess and goes out of her way to please and accommodate special requests if they are within her power.

Room tip: no elevator and no assistance with your luggage.
