Quiet, clean and small

Reviewed Apr 20, 2023via mobile
This resort continuously comes up very affordable so we tried it and loved a lot about it. We had a ground floor room in the new Vuz building which was beautiful and enabled us to come and go through the patio door.
There are 2 pools which are both nice. Lots of loungers and they have waterproof cushions which are comfy. The outdoor area is huge as it is on a bit of a peninsula.
My husband snorkeled off the cliff but it is a 60-70ft drop so the fish are not up close.
We shuttled to Legends a couple of times. I prefer beach and the water is ideal. Legends is run down and all the 7 mile Beach properties have their lounger areas set up as little sardines in a can. All it takes is 1 person smoking and we are all breathing it. This one guy must have smoked 4 packs one afternoon. Yuck.
At both properties food is served at 8am, noon and 7pm. There is not a crumb to find outside of meal time. No late afternoon nosh. And wine is not part of all inclusive. The food was nice with a nod to Jamaican food which we appreciated.
The property is apparently for sale. The owner lives next door and is over often, fixing things as needed. It's a sweet little boutique hotel but really, really quiet.

This place was absolutely stunning! The front desk ladies Jennifer and Angela showed more patience and hospitality than our other 2 resorts stayed in Jamaica. Always a nice greeting when we’d arrive back. Our first waitress Tina made me feel so at home and comfortable that I was able to relax the first time since arriving to Jamaica. The staff sang me Happy Birthday with a decorated piece of cake and made me feel more special than ever! Our room was clean and cool, shower was excellent temp and pressure. The pools were gorgeous with plenty of padded seats and umbrellas. The cliffs were fun to jump from and if you look close they have cool fossils in them all over! The energy was so happy and chill that when I travel back, I KNOW it will be my first choice. You don’t have to worry here about being treated like an outcast here if you couldn’t manage all-inclusive like at other resorts. But if you can afford it I HIGHLY recommend their all-inclusive plan, they had the best food and drink I found venturing the island 9 days leading up to checking in here. You will not regret it. The views of the sunsets are also to die for:) 10 stars!! THANK YOU SAMSARA! You have no idea what the stay with you guys did for my soul..

Room tip: Don’t walk barefoot and use extra extra sunscreen! The sun somehow was strongest here compared to the rest of the north side of the island.

I emailed with questions prior to arrival, I was told there would be a $100 Deposit held upon checkin (not mentioned on the website), but was not informed that it would have to be cash or on a credit card ONLY, which caused quite a bit of a hassle for me & check in time.. None of the staff we came in contact with wore name badges so I can’t be specific, but we encountered some really good employees in the upstairs restaurant for our 1 breakfast, 1 lunch & 1 dinner visit, only 1 friendly bartender, there was 1 bartender who had a negative attitude each time we requested ice, even when we gave tips for the ice, which by the way is the only way to get ice on the premises. The resort’s pizza restaurant across the street was very nice, great pizza, & another patron’s lasagna looked really good, but the server was not pleasant during our dining experience, she was much more pleasant when she was our bartender on St. Patrick’s Day. We never saw the other restaurant mentioned on the website open during our stay. The housekeepers were very pleasant & very helpful, once requests for things were made, (coffee maker, iron & ironing board), but it was very upsetting & very nerve wracking that we did not have full sets of towels upon arrival, & ALL that we had to go through each day of our stay in order to get towels throughout our 6 Day/5 Night Stay. I was appreciative of the fact that my room location request was accommodated, nice safe in the room & our beds were comfortable & a great balcony with an amazing view, absolutely amazing sunset views from the balcony & down below(cliff side)!! We really liked seeing the various boats passing by throughout the day! We stayed in the newer VUZ building, an amazing addition to the property since my 1st visit back in 2004!! There should be more than 2 shuttle departure times for their sister property, there were plenty of beach chairs at Samsara but NOT at Legends, very small number of beach chairs & umbrellas at that location. The toilet & the sofa chair in the room were both very low, other than that we liked our room. The menu items were more costly than what I was expecting, even though I did read MANY of the reviews about the prices & the property so we had to walk around searching for more affordable meals. The property was very clean, it would be really nice if they offered more entertainment throughout the week, the 1 night (Friday) there was entertainment during our stay, was a really nice live band & female singer. It’s a really nice, chill resort if you’re looking for something laid back & low key.

Room tip: Bring some towels and/or stay on the resort about towels Bring a Bluetooth speaker to play your own music while lounging

This boutique resort is a find. While it's not the lap of luxury, it is spacious, comfortable, clean and the staff is amazing. Whether it's Tina on the bar (fabulous!!), Peter getting you sorted out or Ellory (hope I spelled this right) creating your meals - you are fully looked after. Kendrick oversees the dining room and he is wonderful to deal with too! I LOVED this experience and can't wait to return.

Upon arrival at around 8;30 pm it was not any wow factor whatsoever . it was a little depressing .
However in the light of day was a pleasant surprise , not as terrible as the first impression.

1) the bus ride from the airport was terrible , the bus itself was in need of repair .
2) We stayed in 4C , across the street , it was ok , definitely dated , but clean and comfortable . he rooms need chairs in them for a comfort perspective .
3) Dining room, the food was surprisingly good . The selection was limited , but the quality of the food was good. The dining room needs better lighting , this was was also dated , needs a refresh .
They need more Jamaican classic dishes , one thing tat we never saw was Jamaican patties. this is a huge miss at the resort .
Most evenings was garlic bread, however the last night we were there the kitchen made fresh dinner rolls which were outstanding. This needs to be a nightly thing ., because they were well done .
4) the resort need to work on program for teens . hod our son and there was not much for him to do other than be in the pool.

5) The real wow factor was some of the staff . There were a pocket that were rather indifferent, but there were a few that were the definition of Hospitality .

Tina at the bar , she is the jewel in the crown of the Samsara , she is the definition hospitality .

Ellioe ( the egg station lady ) she was terrific .

over all , I would consider this an average stay.

If all you want to do is lay by the ocean , with not much else to do , then this is ok for you.

We stayed 10th to 20th March and the hotel did not disappoint. All staff were lovely in particular Eleri and her team. The food is very tasty, home cooked food, we never had a disappointing meal. The waitresses and bar staff were lovely and always happy. Send a shout out particularly to Tina, Kizzy ( who gave me the nickname tiny feet, stil makes me giggle), Ashika, Janel, Kimmy and Millicent who along with some of the others ran the bar. The reception staff and security guys were great, particularly Peter.

The snorkelling is great. To the right of the cliffs there's the blue cave and to the left were the Xtabi cliffs and caves. There were fishermen every day catching large barracuda, we saw eagle rays and other large and small rays. There are many fish, some we'd never seen before and lots of fans. We also saw a couple of moray eels and some squid.

We stayed in a garden room across the road, basic, large rooms which were clean with very comfortable beds. We didn't miss a fridge as there is water available in a butt at the bar, worth taking an insulated bottle. There is no soundproofing in these rooms, so this can disturb your sleep, we had a snorer next door for a couple of nights.

Bring beach towels as the towels they provide appear to have been cut in half, so are small. Shade is limited, if you're seeking shade and not as good as other places we've stayed. Personally, I wouldn't let this stop me visiting again as within a couple of days we were both very relaxed. Our holidays help us both relax and recharge from our stressful jobs.

The sunsets here are stunning too, plenty of sunbeds available. Could do with some greenery nearer the cliffs, beds.

Room tip: Bring beach towels, mosquito repellent, be careful as we saw many people who burned quite badly, bring earplugs if in garden room.
