Detailed Reviews

Our family has been staying at this Budget Host Nights Inn for over 30 years now, and we have perhaps an expert's take on this lodging. I wish I could recommend it as I have done so in the past, but to be bluntly honest, I can't anymore.

Our experience from the drive up, in sequence: "Always the lowest rates" beckons the white neon sign below the "(K)Nights Inn" streetside sign. Looks the same from the street as it always has, so I pull up to the driveway. Checking in was easy and courteous enough, and the rate - *including* tax - for two was $52. Seems fine by me so far.

Getting to the room, I noticed that the parking lot was very empty, even though it was suppertime. The parking lot felt rough and uneven to my feet, which were in sandals. No repaving in many years, I would say. Not a good start.

Inside the room, I noticed right away that the red carpet, first laid down in probably circa 1980, was still there. Still in one piece, but well worn (not bare, though) and soft to the touch. Shedding, even. We tested all items in the room (plumbing, light fixtures, etc.) as we always do upon getting a room, and we found that one light by the side of the queen size bed was not working. Replacing bulbs didn't help. Checked the outlet, it was plugged in. So the light fixture needed repair/replacement. Everything else worked fine, including the television (which included cable channels such as several ESPN offerings as well as Fox News), microwave and dormitory size refrigerator. We had to set the time to the microwave, and the refrigerator had to be plugged in. No biggie on those. The television channel lineup was way out of date - we had to find our preferred programming by channel surfing on our own. Another sign of cheapness.

Mattress and pillows were fine - in fact, the pillows were on the large size. When it came to the blanket and bedspread, however, we were disappointed in the thinness of each. In fact, we could see through the blanket! Good thing it was almost Summer. Air conditioner/heating system built in below the windows worked fine, but it is obvious to us, veteran, seasoned travelers, that this unit has been in this location for a long time. The fan speed and quietness are no match for say, a newer remodeled Motel 6 accommodation (of which there are none in Richfield).

The room furniture is worn to the point where the bed side stand drawer wouldn't open and shut freely. It worked, but was warped. Yes, it worked, but this drawer was way past its prime. Other wood type furniture is likewise worn and in need of replacement.

Bathroom towels were all complete, with the right number, sizes and appropriate quality. The marble vanity is a quality plus - and a harbinger of bygone days when this place kept out the competition offered by folks such as Super 8 next to Interstate 70. But no more. Too many little things that are no longer at the same level of quality as they always used to be here. Too much deferred remodeling and maintenance

For the final touches on how this place has gone downhill, let's discuss a relatively minor offering: the complimentary continental breakfast. Decades ago, the historic building which houses the front desk, breakfast dining room, and still houses the now off limits nonworking toilets and restaurant was in better upkeep and repair. What doesn't work up to snuff or is unused is now chained off to guests. All that remains is the front desk and the breakfast room. My memories of what was offered for breakfast at Nights Inn are much more than what is offered now. Missing: waffles, pancakes, bagels, cream cheese, real butter, real orange juice, and real silverware. Now all that remains is cheap WalMart foodstuffs such as the bread, cold cereal, hot oatmeal packets, milk, fake orange juice, and Parkay squeeze margarine. It's nice they still have the cinnamon sugar container out for cinnamon toast like in the old days, but it's not going to make me believe this is a worthwhile continental breakfast. Yes, there's fresh coffee and hot chocolate packets, teabags with hot water and styrofoam plates and cups (and sturdier paper cups for the coffee) but it's simply not what was offered in years and decades past. Reeks of cheapness.

A lot of the clientele here for many years has been contractors and building tradesmen traveling for the work they provide to the rural areas they service. Much like Holbrook, Arizona. They were not present this particular Father's Day Sunday evening. Wonder if they are still coming here.

In summary, too many small details show there is a definite decline in quality lodging here. There's competition in Richfield, and worth your kind consideration. Please continue on south to a place I had forgotten about in the midst of returning home, but remembered again the morning we left Richfield. It's my next review.

If you had to stay here for a night, you'd do alright.. It's just that there's better offerings available. I am trying to be kind, because this place was once the gold standard for quality and economy on the road for our family. I don't know why the decline happened. It saddens me.

I stopped over returning to Colorado ,needed a good nights rest, the room was clean and a good location ,however for some reason Richfield is spread out. This was a Saturday and the place was fairly quiet and not to crowded, sometimes its better to take a room towards the back of the hotel, and a upper floor.

This inn looks quite good for budget inn. There were very few guests at time of our stay, so we felt a little strange, almost alone there. Room would need a renovation, looked quite worn out, Cleanliness was not perfect. One guy was walking around at 4 am and calling his cat "Chicco". There was cat-food in front of out doors. This staying was a bit strange, probabbly other guiest avoid this inn with a reason.

We were a group of people who took several rooms. Originally it was for three nights, but we ended up leaving after one night.

I have mixed feelings writing this review. At first I wasn't going to post; however, I use Tripadvisor reviews a lot, and decided I owe it to other travelers.

Yes, it is cheap. And what made it difficult to decide to review was that the owner is really a great guy. The group leader knows this man and wanted to support his hotel because of his good heart. That good heart allows people with no place to stay to stay at this hotel. So here are "some" of the things that made us decide to move to another hotel:
*Blood in the bathroom and room
*Beds half made
*Opened the dresser draw and their were clothes in it
*Two young ladies went to Walmart to purchase sheets because they could not lay on the sheets that were there
*Every room had a No Smoking sign, yet the rooms all reeked of cigarette smoke
*The wash cloths were see through, like gauze
*Chair that should have been in the room was outside with a cigarette hole in it
*A couple went to their room to find the room already occupied
*People that tried to use the toilets, but had to clean them first, or toilets that did not flush
*Air conditioner that did not work
*The pool had logs over the top of it
*The couple who stood outside the room smoking and loudly arguing all night
*Some of the group set chairs against the door
*I woke the next day with a bug bite on my cheek
*Hair on the bathroom towel
*The hotel only supplies a roll, or in several cases, a half roll of toilet paper (the homeless takes them).

I think the owner needs to decide if he wants to run a hotel or a shelter. Or, perhaps designate a certain area of the hotel for the homeless. But, you cannot say there are smoke free rooms when people are allowed to smoke in them. Blood cannot be left in bathrooms and rooms. Clothes cannot be left in dressers. Bed sheets need to be clean.

Our group was willing to support this local business in Richfield. But, I think travelers should know what they are getting into. There are other hotels in Richfield that are much better.

At first glance Nights Inn seemed like a great budget hotel for a one nights stay. Little did my boyfriend and I know that there were “regulars” and guests basically living in the hotel. We over looked this upon checking in and figured it’s just one night how
bad could it be. We checked in at 5pm left and got dinner, went to the hot springs, and were in our hotel room a total of 45 minutes before we had to leave at

11 pm. We choose to drive the 2.5 hours back to salt lake rather than stay! We could care less about how the room looked it was the other guests and how
management treated us that was unacceptable. First, the hotel regulars in the rooms next to us were having some sort of party there were a lot of sketchy
people coming in and out of their rooms and they had kenneled dogs that barked every time someone new came. Since we were just there to sleep we got
in bed and were trying to fall asleep with the couple in the room next to us started being very loud after about 15 minutes of listening to the headboard
bang and the couple chase eachother around their
room we asked to be moved. Kindly the lady at the front desk moved us to a room a few doors down.
We hopped back into bed and after a few moments
heard a mans voice whispering in our room “hey!” Terrified that someone was in our room we both ran
outside and told the woman at the front desk she
laugh and said oh I know the guy in the room next to you he’s just an old f**ker. The gentleman staying
next door was whispering through the crack of the
adjoining door. At this point we were completely done with all the bull and we grabbed our stuff and drove home even though it was 11 pm. The woman
at the front desk was apologetic although she did seem to find it funny and told us to call back tomorrow when the manager was on because we wanted a refund. The manager basically laughed at us when we asked for a refund. We don’t even care about the money at this point we just don’t want any other couple of family to have an experience like this.

Was traveling alone from CO to San Diego. Checked in very tired at 11 PM. Given quiet inexpensive room and went right to sleep. Woke up at 5:30 AM, showered and left. 100 miles down the road, discovered my wedding ring (in the family since 1946) was not on my finger.
Called motel. Owner checked my room while I was on the phone. He found ring by the bathroom sink and mailed it to me in San Diego via certified mail. I am forever grateful!

This has to be the worst place I've ever stayed! I read the reviews and thought ok, it's only one night and sounds like it will be ok. The carpet was newer, that is the best, now for the rest of the story. I had to wait for the owner/desk clerk to eat his dinner upon check in, this should have been my first clue! The TV had so much dust on it we had to clean it ourselves. There were holes in the wall, the baseboards were filthy, the curtains were disgusting and the rod was broken, we fixed that too! The beds were YUCK! I. The morning I found bugs in the bed, I don't know if they were bedbugs but there was little spots of blood on the sheets that weren't there when I laid down! Ick! The faucet in the bathtub was broken and could barely turn on the water, the free breakfast consisted of cereal or toast, my husband went down for coffee in the morning, he said the clerk was laying on the couch in the lobby! The alarm clock and tv remote were secured with scotch tape, the alarm didn't work anyway! I maybe slept for 4 hours, I couldn't wait to get out of there!

The positive reviews had to be written by the staff, I was suckered by the reviews stating the property had been renovated. the couple who registered me in the afternoon were nice however at 3:30 in the afternoon my room was not ready, on a Monday? I returned at 10:00pm and my key did not work. Also, there were three lovely individuals on the stairs above my rooms who were very loud. I went to the office to get a new key and it was locked. Eventually a gruff employee approached with a scowl asking what my problem was? He was confrontational, and not apologetic. Although I reserved two nights I knew it was time to cut my losses and paid for one night although I didn't step foot in the room. This place has "the lowest weekly rates" so you can guess what it's like. I checked in at the Holiday Inn Express and it was fantastic. After speaking with locals I found out this place is considered the worst place in town. DON"T EVEN CONSIDER THIS DUMP, YOU WILL BE SORRY!

Our service is isn't always 100%, that's because we are still in the middle of renovations and making this historic land mark a great place to stay in our little community. We will go out of our way to get you into your room at what ever time you check in. Just like with this individual that checked in at 1:30 not 3:30.(ask to see the folio). He spent about 8 hours in the room and asked directly for a refund rather than allowing us to accommodate his understandable request to be away from some guest that where out side having a smoke because all our rooms are non-smoking. We never have had nor will we ever have a reputation of renting by the hour. The keys have been a bother to the staff more so than to the guests. It's a matter we are in the middle of fixing and that has been part of the cause of the problem. We aren't lying about anything to our guests. We know what we are and we are working in leaps and bounds to become a perfect place to stay. And we hope to make your stay just as great at our downtown historic location as your stay at the higher priced new franchise hotels in town. Thank you all for taking the time to read up on places your staying and using trip advisor. We love hearing from you, good comments or bad comments. We are always interested in helping our guests feel more at home. Best wishes, John mgmt
