Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
I used to stay at another hotel in the area but it was full. I was getting tired of that place anyway because they were overcharging for what should be affordable rooms. I guess I had an Idea of what affordable looked like for near the Loop and expected the same sort of space from Kinzie because the price was close. The room at Kinzie exceeded these expectations; windows, amenities, coffee pods and robust WiFI, but also the desk staff treated me like I was some sort of VIP. The staff immediately read my situation when I arrived (tired, hungry, barely social or communicative) there was some sort of glitch with my reservation because I used an app that was being weird. They were bright and cheerful and made me feel comfortable as they quickly accommodated. I opted to pay for parking and valet because I didn't want to deal with street parking. It was as expensive as garage parking is in the city but I wanted the peace of mind and even with the parking the total cost was about as much as a downtown room would be without all the friendly staff. The desk used text system for communication and were quick to respond and always friendly. I texted when I needed car and it was out front in a matter of minutes. There was a time gap between checkout and my departure time so they checked my bags, kept my car garaged and told me not to worry and just text when I was ready. Also, I was traveling during pandemic. I was careful to stay away from cities and Chicago couldn't be avoided. I was happy to see everyone, staff and guests, wearing masks and using sanitizer. I work in hospital and needed to be tested as soon as I arrived home before I began work. I am clear! I am happy to now know of the Kinzie Hotel.

We have been trying out different boutique hotels in Chicago over the past year or so, and this was one of the nicest we’ve stayed at. We had a corner suite, and it was well laid out, furnished very nicely, floor to ceiling windows with electronic drapes, and very intimate and luxurious. The front desk staff here are stellar at their jobs, especially Lexy and Lupe!! They truly are two of the most friendly and welcoming desk staff I’ve encountered in many years of staying in hotels. Andrew, the GM, also was very welcoming and genuinely wanted our anniversary there to be special. The Kinzie Hotel truly is a “diamond in the rough”, and I highly recommend it for anyone looking for an intimate, well appointed boutique hotel, in a great location, in Chicago. Looking forward to returning soon!!

We stayed at the Kinzie hotel from March 2 through March 7. Martin, the hotel manager, went out of his way to accommodate us with our requested room. Service was outstanding from every employee; doorman, housekeeping, front desk, bartender, and even the maintenance person. Location couldn’t be better. I loved the layout of the room with a long desk bar in the bedroom and a full countertop in the bathroom (no lousy non-functional decorative pedestal sinks in this hotel). An empty refrigerator was available in the room, perfect for in room beverages. We’ve stayed here multiple times and look forward to returning.

The Hotel has an AWFUL customer service, I did my checkout and on my way to the airport I notice I forgot my Apple Watch and reported to a staff member Andrew who the only thing he did was send me link to report the item, which I did and attached a picture of the Find my iPhone show where it was and was easy to find because it receives calls, they refused to check the room while the Apple Watch still had battery, they notify me the next day that they did not find my watch. Let me tell you I’ve stay in not good looking room but staff more customer service related. The watch disappear even with pictures of location during several hours and it can not be found. Shame. Besides that they only clean your room if you’re out before 8am, forget the experience of vacation waking up later and having a clean bedroom at your return. Is more like an Airbnb where you cant really trust the host, and is not so interested in making of you a returning customer.

I am disappointed to hear that this was not what you experienced during your stay with us. I would like to apologize that we have not had a more favorable result regarding your Apple Watch. We have thoroughly searched the room you stayed in, and did not find it charging in the room. You did say that you had tracked the Apple Watch back to the property using your location; any additional information from this will help in our continued efforts to locate the watch and get it returned to you. I see from the pictures that it was located in the hotel but if you were able to zoom in so we could see what area it was "pinging" at it could help. Our housekeeping staff returns hundreds of lost items in a year to guests, and we take lost items very seriously at the hotel. Our staff would never take an item, and we conducted a full interrogation to ensure this was not the case.

We stayed for 2 nights (March 10th to Sunday March 12) for the Chicago River dying & St. Patricks celebration. The location was a 6min walk to the prime viewing spots to watch the river being died green early in the morning. Hotel included free breakfast (continental) it was very minimal but its free so can't complain too much. An added bonus was the Happy Hour 5pm-7pm. The bartender was extremely nice and kept up with the busy crowd. Also close by was the italian restaurant we booked for Dinner on Saturday night called 'Il Porcellino which I highly recommend (6min walk around the corner from the hotel). The quality was great for the price and I booked it through a 3rd party Hotels.com and had no issues at check in or check out. Room was spacious 2 double beds, shower/tub combo, blow dryer and makeup mirror in the bathroom, one bathrob, inroom safe and a lounger couch under the window which was great for people watching while we got ready and pregamed in the room. To be honest some of the previous reviews had me worried. They mentioned past customers who had problems, their reservations could not be found for 3rd party bookings, or others that stated extra charges on bill or holds on credit cards, we experienced none of these issues. Upon check in we actually were able to check in early at 12:30pm. This hotel has free luggage storage if you arrive, and your room is not ready before 3pm Check in. I would stay here again in the future if travelling again in March. So much is close by.

Location is superb, in River North, very easily accessible with public transportation, a short walk to the Loop, the lakefront, the Magnificent Mile, museums, basically all the tourist attractions, restaurants, clubs and shopping. Probably the best point.
Staff were friendly and accommodating. Usual COVID restrictions--no maid service and very reduced food service and bar. But that's to be expected. I didn't use the fitness center, but was able to print out our boarding passes from a computer in the business center without any problems.
Room is a little small, but very nicely furnished. Bed is comfortable, perhaps a little soft for my taste. Bathroom is large and nicely equipped. Free Wifi is fast and reliable; TV was good. It was one of those deals where you could watch Netflix on it, but the remote didn't work very well with it.
Free breakfast is a nice idea, but the breakfast itself was dismal, food and coffee at a level one would associate with a cheap motel not a boutique hotel charging higher prices. The $16 per night "resort fee" (what resort, exactly?) was a sneaky way to raise rates.
So, overall, pretty good, but not without some annoying features.

Booked this through Agoda for a birthday trip and I was not disappointed. Great location, clean and bright facility, and the staff was the best I have ever had. Spencer was so helpful (even brought me my laptop that I left in the lobby) and Derick made sure we knew where we were going as we left. First time I’ve stayed in downtown Chicago and was not irritated with sirens and noise—this location was quiet and serine. The bed was comfortable and the dual shower heads had everyone taking nice long showers. My husband loved having Netflix in the TV and the WIFI was great! It was also nice to be able to text for directions or with basic questions and the replies were quick to each of my questions. Thank you Kinzie—we will be back.

Despite being victim to the recent ransomware attack, the staff of the Kinzie went over and above to assure the guests that the Kinzie's service would not be compromised. The manual check in was smooth and efficient. The security was beyond our expectations. Since they could not issue electronic key cards, a staff member would escort guests to their rooms, open the doors, and literally be at the guests' beck and call 24/7. The hotel still offered the continental breakfast on the 6th floor, and the morning staff who serviced and escorted guests to and from the breakfast room were beyond compare. In these trying times when many people opt for unemployment benefits with the additional bonus, this staff was exemplary! What dedicated service from wonderful employees! I truly cannot think of one thing that could have been done better, especially considering the extenuating circumstances the staff faced during our stay. I highly recommend the Kinzie Hotel for its service, attention to detail, safety precautions, nicely appointed rooms, and wonderful location near the Loop and River North. I would choose the Kinzie again and again.

I very much enjoyed my stay at the Kinzie Hotel. From the "informal" lobby full of friendly staff to the generous rooms with lots of natural light, this hotel offers a great atmosphere. The continental breakfast and cocktail hour were much better than what is offered in more standard "chain" hotels. The location was convenient to meetings I had in the Loop, even walkable in some cases. I highly recommend this option and will definitely return!

We have stayed here a number of times when we come to town for Blackhawk games, the theater, or just to get away. The cost, the location, and the friendliness of the staff are exceptional (Mona and Derrick). If you are a walker, it is very easy to walk to attractions both north and south. The continental breakfast is more than enough to send one out for the day, and the wine/beer in the evening is a plus. Then, too, the discount at the Public House next door is great for a drink or light meal. Parking fees are steep, but they can be reduced by using Spot Hero for nearby parking garages if you don't want to go in and out.

Yes, some restaurants, and most retail stores, have opened up, with certain restrictions though. As far as entertainment and other “things to do” in Chicago, only about 50% of that is back. The Kinzie has a great location, with lots to do nearby.
There are more places to choose from in the Chicago area.
