Nestled in a prime spot, Hilton Garden Inn St. Pete Beach is a hit for its easy beach access and proximity to local attractions, as many travelers have noted. Guests frequently commend the modern, well-kept rooms, though some mention less impressive views and occasional upkeep issues. While the lively atmosphere with beachside tunes is a draw for some, others may find it overbearing. The hotel's service and value have garnered mixed reactions, with both accolades for staff friendliness and criticism regarding service hiccups and unexpected fees.

Beautiful location and excellent accommodations is the best way to describe this Hilton Resort. We live on the Atlantic side of Florida, so a few times a year we like to explore the west side. St. Pete beach and this property does not disappoint. Get a Gulf front room to drink coffee in the mornings on the balcony. At night, enjoy the terrific guitar singers at Coconut Charlie’s right on the beach. The King room bed was spacious and very comfortable. If you are older and enjoy more quiet time, stay Monday thru Thursday when the DJs are not booming music till 10 PM. The weekends seem to cater to the younger set. Breakfast and lunch at the restaurants are very good and reasonably priced. You can walk to any number of good places for dinner close to this resort. Water bottles are provided for your room and the cabanas on the sand are great. The gulf water is so clear and you can see fish, and manatees in the morning surf. Gulf Blvd is busy with lots of traffic, so once you are at this Hilton there is really no need to leave. If you love the Gulf and a beautiful setting stay here. The sunsets are awesome!

I have stayed at the Howard Johnson on St Pete Beach a few times a year for over a decade. I was worried that Hilton Garden Inn would be a cosmetic make-over at this location that wouldn’t justify the price hike – I was wrong. All of the improvements were desperately needed. I remember thinking in my last stay when it was still the Ho-Jo that is was getting really bad. Now that Hilton took it over and cleaned it up, the contrast is striking!
What I like about the changes: The layout to the bathrooms has changed so the weird exterior sink, and mini-fridge with a rusty microwave on top is gone. Instead the bathroom feels expanded and it completely updated. There is now cabinetry for the fridge and microwave that reduces noise and improves the coffee bar.
They have improved the desk area so it is actually comfortable to work in the room and the wifi is speedy. They’ve also integrated lovely reading light options that make it easy to read in bed without disturbing your companion. Overall I’d give the room updates an enthusiastic 10/10.
The only bummer at this location is the loss of the Toasted Monkey beach restaurant. The new restaurant is majorly lacking. The food isn’t very good and it seems thrown together like it is from a fast food joint. The drinks now come in plastic cups instead of having a decent pint.
Instead we have been going to the restaurant at the front of the property where the staff is phenomenal and the food is excellent. I used to only stay here for the beer and French fries at the beach (we all have our thing). But now it is the main restaurant staff that makes this feel like a home away from home.
I’ve been back to this location several times as the Hilton Garden Inn and will enthusiastically agree that it has changed for the better and is worth the price difference.

WOW, thank you so much for the kind words and thoughtful review! We certainly have come a long way from the Howard Johnson Hotel, and we are so excited to see the feedback of our guests on what they think of our new renovations. We've definitely done our best to renovate and have additions that benefit the guests. In the next couple of weeks, we will be completely changing our front Grill menu to create a more elevated experience for our guests. We would love to have you back with us again soon to try it out! Once again, we appreciate the feedback, and we hope to have you back with us again soon!

We just got back and LOVED our stay on all accounts so much! It is a newly renovated hotel. Even if one expects - well it is just a big Hilton chain hotel, nothing about it feels this way. It is a smaller hotel, really well decorated in a light airy beachy feel. Nicely sized and clean rooms/bathrooms with balconies. A big thank you to all the super friendly staff all along (especially the beach and the front desk staff, breakfast servers and the bartenders at the Tiki Bar). Everyone was so helpful, friendly and accommodating. The hotel truly has everything you need, right at the beach (complimentary cabanas), a nice pool area, volleyball, a lovely garden area with hammocks, sofa seatings and lounge chairs, outdoor tables and a Tiki Bar, breakfast and dinner restaurant. Life music gigs are happening in the late afternoon. Restaurants, stores and bars in walking distances or you can use the free shuttle services vans running along the St. Pete Beach area. Added note, please have support and patience, like many other businesses nowadays with the long pandemic struggles this place also just reopened a few months ago and experiences also some staffing shortages, so cleaning the rooms was not always available on the busy weekends with many check-outs and in. But you can always walk up to the floor staff and get new towels and other items. They are truly hard working people at this place! We were thankful and happy and definitely will be back. As an advice book the room options with ocean or partial ocean view, well worth it.

There were Pros and Cons to this review the Pros being the hotel is within walking distance to good restaurants Skidders was great for breakfast. We also recommend Larry's Donuts which sells gourmet Donuts as well as delicious homemade ice cream so be sure to check that out. Dunkin Donuts is directly across the street. A short drive to Tropicana Stadium and St Pete Pier. Hotel was right on the beach you can walk there within 3min and towels and complimentary water available near the pool. Plenty of cabanas provided they are first come first serve.

Now for the Cons: housekeeping was subpar for having "Hilton" in the name. The building itself is very small only 5
Floors so if you want a Gulf view call and request it or you don't get it. We got a bottom floor that description said partial view this was a lie. There was no view but a nice area to read with a chair and lounger and table. No sliding doors just a single glass door like a store vs a patio or balcony. Very difficult to get a restock of towels and coffee for the room. Floors of rooms are not clean so bring something for your feet, white socks turned black just saying. I cannot recommend this hotel but keep in mind St Pete is very older and quaint a lot of the places to stay are motels very few hotels and not a lot of shopping definitely check out John's Pass on Madeira Beach for something to do.

We had a nice time in St. Pete overall a lot quieter than Clearwater. I found it ironic that the outside Bar/Restaurant served drinks but not food before 12pm. One this I disliked was that they charged a daily resort fee but did not clean the rooms unless you requested housekeeping service. We did find a huge water bug in the room. I believe if they clean the rooms on a regular basis there would not have been creatures about. I may have given this hotel a 10 rating if they cared a bit more about cleanliness.

Greetings tchoudri! Thank you for staying with us and for providing your feedback. We care deeply about the cleanliness and sanitation of the hotel and have enhanced our cleaning standards as a result of COVID to include routine high touch cleaning throughout our public areas. Hilton has removed the automatic daily stayover cleaning in order to minimize the interaction between staff and guests in the rooms due to COVID19. As you mentioned, we gladly offer service upon request! We are moving to an 11am start on lunch in the future. Thank you for staying with us and we hope to see you again.

It was exciting to be in a room that had never been used by other people! Very clean rooms. Close to beach. Swimming pool very clean and warm even in the early Am for swimming. Had fun at the Coconut Grill behind the hotel. They usually had music every afternoon. After spending the day exploring the area, it was nice to just relax and have a drink - or two. The Huckleberry slushies were great (alcoholic) and nacho appetizer just right. Because of short staff the dining room was only serving Opening night so we had to find some place else later. Breakfasts were OK, but the "huge" cinnamon roll was not huge. Omelets were small. Staff rushed but stayed on top of the customers needs. This Inn is in the middle of that area and has easy access to going North or South along the Gulf! I wish them success in a already busy area. Kudos especially to Sonia in the dining room!! Great service, a friendly smile and conversation - & she was hurrying all during the meal.

When we arrived for check in, the lobby was packed and it was so loud that we couldn’t hear the lady checking us in so that was frustrating.

Arrived to our 4th floor room, 428, and it was the strangest set up I’ve ever encountered: there was a door for access to 428 and 430. Once you open that, then there was a door for 428 and one for 430. Problem is, that initial door had a deadbolt. So, the people in 430 could technically lock us out of access to our room. I was very uneasy about this but was told the hotel was at capacity and there was nothing they could do.

We did our typical room check and found a blood stain on a mattress pad on one bed, and another stain on the sheets of the other. They quickly sent someone up to change all of that out, but it was an unsettling start to our vacation. I was hoping with a newly renovated hotel, everything would be spotless.

I liked the set up of the room. The mini fridge was a good size for a hotel room, and there was a counter top with some storage where we could make sandwiches for lunch.

I knew from pictures that the balcony would be small, but I didn’t realize just HOW small so that was disappointing.

The elevator at the beach end of the hotel made an awful screeching noise that made you wonder if the cable would snap.

One thing this hotel needs is many more hooks in the bathroom!

The cabanas were very nice to have included. I liked that the hotel room had hard flooring.

Beach bar music was very loud on a Sunday, then after that it was at a tolerable level. On Sunday the hotel pool was very much a party atmosphere with couples and lots of PDA, during the week it was much more family friendly.

This was our first (and probably last) trip to St. Pete Beach. Would I return to this property? No.

Our room wasn’t ready when we arrived at 4:30 pm, so the desk agent comped us some drinks at the backyard bar and we sat and enjoyed the live music. The pool/bar area has lots of different types of seating (including several hammocks), and we enjoyed the beautiful day. When our room was ready, we found it to be spacious and well thought out. The bedside tables were larger than most, so there was plenty of room for chargers, books, glasses, etc. Lighting was especially impressive, as there were options for dim light or brighter, and lamps were placed so that they could be used at the desk or soft chair. The balcony was a treat; from our room, 414, we could see the sunset over the gulf. (Our room was on the north side of the hotel, and I think you’d be able to see the water from any rooms on the 4th or 5th floor on that side, as the adjacent hotel is only 2 stories tall. On the south side, there is a taller building that seems that it would block the view.).

We had supper at the front-side Coconut Charlie’s, as the back beach bar area was full. We had attentive service and a good meal.

Since we were only staying one night, we went to the beach bright and early and enjoyed a couple of hours in a cabana before getting ready for our 11:00 checkout. I wished we could have stayed another day so that we could have spent more time on the beach.

Overall, this is a nice property inside and out with easy beach access. There are several restaurants in the area. After having spent most of a week on the ocean side of Florida at the Doubletree Suites in Melbourne, we noted a distinctly different vibe in St. Pete Beach. The water was quieter, but it was definitely busier and a younger crowd. There were many more people out walking, both on the beach and on the sidewalks, and there was more traffic on the roads as well. If we return for a Florida beach vacation, we’ll have to consider what we prefer.

The only downside of this hotel in my mind is the price. We had a free night certificate, which made it a great stay for us, but I can’t see us paying the $700/night that this room would have cost otherwise. I guess each guest has to decide what they’re willing to pay, and I understand that the location is excellent. I would happily stay here again if we could book a room at a more reasonable rate.

All in all, we had nothing to complain about at this property. It was an enjoyable, relaxing stay.

Why no upgrade???? We had a one night stay to attend an art festival. It started off poorly at the front desk as they were not able to find us an upgrade as we were hoping since we're Diamond members. The woman at the front desk seemed indifferent, didn't great us as Diamond Members and said they were "completely booked" when I inquired about an upgrade. I knew she was lying to me because when I went on my Hilton Honors phone app I could see there were multiple partial view rooms available. I went back on my app a few hours later and there were still multiple partial view room available for booking. And later that night and in the morning there were a lot of parking spots available which tells me they were not "booked". The room we got was on the first floor in the back away from the beach with a not so beautiful view of the cars in the parking lot.

As diamond members we had 2 - $10 food and beverage credits so we decided to have breakfast at the onsite restaurant Coconuts. The staff was not very attentive and the breakfast was more on the poor side. The canadian bacon was overcooked and tough and the eggs were tough too and I'm not sure what they did to the potatoes.

The hotel is on the beach so it was nice to sit in the sand and watch the sunset. However, the location is far from any of the popular bars and nightspots so you would have to drive. There is another resort next door that has live music but that is about it. The grounds and the room were clean but nothing to write home about. We definitely won't be back.

We apologize that you did not enjoy your experience at our property. Upgrades are only provided when available for the entire length of the reservation you booked. We do like to treat our Diamond members well for their loyalty to the brand and sorry you do not feel that we achieved this. The Hilton Garden inn is also not a brand required to offer complimentary upgrades to Diamond members, but we still do our best to offer when available.

If you stay 1 day, you don't get a room until after 4p, and checkout is hard stop at 11am, so you don't get to use the pool for either day, which is also where they give you beach towels. $25 resort fee is not included in advertised price. Diamond club member, and found someone standing outside the room at 11am 'doing bed check' to make sure you get out. They deny they have ever heard anything about AARP advertised pricing which states 2pm checkout, and were not interested in seeing proof. Offers $80 paradsailing and similar fee for waverunner rental (not exactly sure what the resort fee is for?) Any room ending in '25' means you can open your room door and touch the elevator, literally less than a foot away. Not sure if I'll try this one again or not...
