The owner Lyndon Hodge hand-built this small, rustic lodge himself, and it's a winner. Hodge attempts to tread gently on the land (for instance, the on-site restaurant sources only local ingredients and his awesome environmental art walk) and he knows the region like the back of his hand having lived here all his life. It's on Rte 430. Excellent central location for touring - just 15 minutes to all the major attractions on the tip of the Northern Pen, including: Cook's Harbor, Raleigh, St. Anthony. 30 Min drive to L'ance Aux Meadows (Vikings and the classic Norseman Restaurant).

This is a place for those who wish an experience out in the expanse of NFLD splendour. Out back, the view of picturesque Raleigh across the water; out front, the endless panorama of tundra and far off hills. Yes, this place is quirky. The cash only thing can be a pain, but I carry actual money, so no big deal. The owner does it all, from managing the B and B, to carrying on with his renovations and developments, so he is somewhat scattered. But he was always sincere and helpfull. This is a lodge type of accomodation rather than a prissy B and B set up. Rooms are clean but don't come with expectations of cute, darling themed room decors and mints on your pillow. I have spent a great deal of time on the road and this is fine for me although my wife would have preferred a somewhat more upscale operation. To each their own. My type of person would be quite happy there. This is out of town, and you will either like it for this fact, or you will not, if you wanted to be closeted right in beautifull downtown St. Anthony. My review is a 3 star but only because there is no way of giving it a 3 plus, which is more accurate. It serves its purpose very well IMHO. I took more pictures around there than around the other B and Bs I stayed at on The Rock. I would go back. I couldn't choose Sept. 2019 in the review menu which is when we stayed there, not Sept. 2020, which I clicked to be able to submit my review.

Well, the room was clean. The breakfast (self-serve) was ample (in fact, there was food enough for 20, although there were no more than 6 guests).
On the other hand: the owner/operator is found only by repeatedly pushing the doorbell duct-taped to the desk, or by wandering about and shouting. The back of the hotel (where there's a splendid ocean view) contains a pile of gravel, a cement mixer, 2 abandoned trucks and 3 abandoned snowmobiles. The towels are straight from the dollar store: dye poured from the coloured ones. No TV or wifi. Mattress covered with cheap foam topper. Bedroom furniture consisted of a dresser ( probably from a yard sale) , a nightstand with a broken lamp, and a patio chair.

Hi Central Newfoundland, I guess that is teh charm isn't it . It is rural rural NFLD and this is the situation. As the numbers of tourists increase in our area , the economics) is getting better for locals who do it themselves . With gracious tourists revenue from more and more people who come off the beaten road places despite the poor general services and roads to visit authentic rural NFLDers, icebergs and great natural beauty , we have more dollars to fix up our places which is what we are doing. The truth is Wildberry lodge / inn rooms are spacious and clean and run well by gracious hard working owner. Check out his general reviews on bookings.com. people love it! They say there is one thing you can do to insult a northern NFLDer, that is tell him his house is not clean or comfortable!! . Lyn is fanatical about comfort , cleanliness and food for all his guests from away. He is also very informative and a great host ...he will tell you stories that will enrich your trip and make you feel at home. Sorry you did not get this .. You are welcome back anytime ..

I find Wildberry hard to review. My first disappointment was the distance from St. Anthony's. My second surprise was the appearance of the building. We actually drove past, not believing that this was the "lodge".
It was rather forlorn, as if they had run out of money in building the place. Inside was spacious and we got a nice room facing the back rocks, but no view as the building was constructed too low to get a view.
The place was clean. Furniture was bare minimum. There were no pictures on the walls, no TV, no fridge and nowhere to sit.
The bathroom was miniscule. There was no back up roll of toilet paper...and the first night I endured a cold shower because the proprietor hadn't turned up the hot water. Internet was poor.
Breakfast was okay. It was serve yourself, continental, but there was everything, cereal, coffee, tea, yoghurt, juices, fruit, etc.
One also had access to the kitchen.
The eating area itself was nice, with gorgeous views over the highway.
We did sleep well. It was quiet and comfortable.
Credit cards were not accepted, which can be a pain.
So, not a bad place, but just missing on many levels.

Breakfast was awesome! Accommodations were roomy and comfortable. Felt like a ship with rooms along the corridor with communal sitting/eating rooms. Bit out of town but not too far, easy to access points of interest, quiet. Time to relax from travels. Host was friendly and helpful. Wifi was ok and no TV in rooms. Common area had TV.

Creepy feeling here. I actually did not feel good about my wife walking in ahead of me without me. Owner looked and acted unprofessional, said yes he could confirm our reservation, without actually knowing either of our names yet (when all I wanted was to ask first of all if we were in th right place, as it is QUITE far from St anthony itself). When we asked him to look us up in his records & ensure this was a legit business, he got defensive. Another guest came to complain about something & we quickly left. Very creepy. Very.

I have to start by saying I have never written a bad review and find this very difficult however I feel I need to let other tourists know about our experience. When we pulled up to this lodge, the grounds all around the building are dirt and obviously under repair. There was a note written on a paper napkin attached to the front door indicating you to use the side door. Upon entering the building, there was no heat or lights on and after a bit of looking my husband did find a gentleman who looked shocked to see him. He smelled of alcohol and appeared intoxicated and confused regarding our booking. He proceeded to show us a couple of rooms which had everything unplugged and nothing required was in the room. I honestly felt like the lodge was closed down for the season. He told us his sister looked after the bookings so he was not aware we were coming. You are asked to sign your name in a paper notebook and are given a key to your very old fashioned room. A table, lamp, old chair in the corner and beds. No TV. We did bring in our bags and then left for supper. After leaving, I informed my husband that I refused to stay there. We went to a hotel and booked a room and went back and got our bags and left. Do your homework by google searching this lodge/owner before booking......Overall, leaving this place was the best decision ever

Wildberry (Lyn) has been busy with exterior renovations summer 2016. These outdoor design issues will be completed by 2017 season. Most people like the authentic rural NFLD experience. You are welcome anytime to return.

This place is good if you don't need your phone, t.v., comfortable bed or....
This place is good if you're a heavy sleeper and can either ignore every sound (including talking) your neighbors make...
This place is good if you can out-snore the person sleeping in the next room...
Someone should have shot the interior decorator.
It's sad since this could be a better place if they'd take care of it, money may be an issue not sure and not my business. They do try hard in being hospitable.
If your visiting Newfoundland and this is the only place you could get then do it, Newfoundland is worth the visit.

we booked this place on line and were most disappointed in how everything was handled.the owner I assume was less than coherent and was not sure why we were there even though we had a reservation. The atmosphere was most uncomfortable so we did not wish to stay. There were no vehicles whenever we drove by so I am not certain where the great reviews are coming from. There are numerous band b in St. Anthony's which would be a better chose.

The beds are dirty and the place smells really bad.It seems really creepy. The carpet is old and the bathrooms were filthy. I doubt this place would pass a health inspection. We could not stay there so we found another room in St Anthony. If we didn't find another room we would have went back to Corner Brook.

Dear Brian, You did not stay so I do not think you have authority to leave such a terrible review . You did not pay and left the owner without paying because your taste were different and this is understandable.. This review only serves to reflect on you as a person and is inappropriate. In fact you terrible review might be a case for slander? The Wildberry had great reviews from paying guest that actually stay. The owner puts a premium on cleanliness. He is obsessive about that. It is very clean and is authentic. See reviews on bookings over 175 reviews..

We pulled up to this place...the grass was not cut, the wood on the steps had been removed, the railing on the stairs was very wobbly (on the first flight to the front door), then the final few steps the wood was spongey and there was no railing. It took quite a few minutes for the manager to come to the Paint was chipped on wood work, windows in breakfast room needed replacement. Breakfast in the morning was continental...cereal boxes lined up...had to find coffee in kitchen in a home carafe (must have been made long before we were there at 7:30 am. There was bread, English muffins and some hard bagels....muffins, cookies and grapes. We were to stay 2 nights, but got a B&B in town instead.
