My brother and I stayed here for one night to recover from jet lag before we boarded our cruise ship. The courtyard-square entrance to the hotel is charming, the rooms are comfortable (although we requested a move, due to a/c problems, which was promptly arranged by friendly staff) The bathroom was clean and modernized, and the breakfast was quite good.

Highlights: Ambiance and historical feel, proximity to Las Ramblas and friendly, albeit quiky, staff. The gentleman at the front desk suggested a small restauraunt around the corner and down the alley for Paella... off the beaten tourist track, and obviously a place for locals. Our meal was reasonably priced, and the Paella was superb. I can still see the sizzling pan with fresh seafood and saffron rice in my mind's-eye... What a start to the wonderful family trip!

Barcelona is a wonderful and friendly city, and this hotel is a great frist stop!

We had a lovely stay in Sant Agusti Hotel. Room cleaned every day. And the room was good. We stayed the week they have a market the whole way down the street it was fanastic (we heard no noise at all and it had started before we woke up) and are room was right above it.
I would recommended this Hotel. And they have a computer in the lobby were you can send emails to your friends (it is easier than texting on your mobile) and it is FREE to use.
I very nice stay we all had.

Hi,I have at this hotel twice recently (Feb & March 2003). The first time we stayed in a twin room on the first floor. This was similar to many hotel rooms that I have stayed in when visiting continental Europe, i.e. clean and functional. The second visit we got a double room on the top floor, this room was much better retaining much of the original character of the building which I believe was a convent.Breakfast was included and consisted of a buffet style breakfast. This hotel is in an excellent location and is a short distance from many great places to eat and shop. Although situated on a quiet square off Las Ramblas I still found it to be noisey at night (perhaps this is true for most of Barcelona).

I stayed here for a few nights with my partner and location was perfect to see everything we needed. Just off la Rambla and near to La Boqueria, the nearest metro is within a few minutes walk from the entrance. Despite this we found the location to be nice and quiet.
We only used the metro a couple of times as we walked to most of what we wanted to see.
Our room was clean and spacious. It had a good mix of modern fixtures with some nice old features of the building. We had gothic style railings around our window, wooden beams and some old books displayed as art in our room in a modern case. So it was more interesting than a chain hotel room normally is. Bed was comfortable and air con and safe worked well. There were charging points for phones etc. There was plenty of wardrobe space for the two of us.
Bathroom was small but fine for a few days. Water pressure was good and we always had hot water.
Breakfast room was clean and nicely set out. Food was basic and the options didn't change while we were there but there was enough choice for a few days. There was different types of bread, pastries, some cold meats and cheese, jams and preserves, yoghurts and canned fruit salads. Hot options were sausage, egg and bacon. Fruit juice is from a machine so not fresh but it tasted OK and again it has a few options. Coffee was fine.
We didn't need to speak much to the staff while we there, only really when checking in but they were friendly enough and always said hello when we walked into reception or if we saw them in the hall.
There are plenty of bars, restaurants and cafes within a few minutes walk. We had tapas and cocktails at the bar next door which has seating out on the square. That got busy later on in the evening so maybe noisy for rooms at the front of the hotel?
The square itself did seem to attract homeless people but they never bothered us and we didn't feel unsafe.
This was great value for money and I would certainly stay here again if we return to Barcelona.

Despite a lot of negative comments for this hotel, we had a great experience. Check-in fast and efficient, and the male receptionists were always very nice. Our room was at the rear of the hotel and consequently we had a good night's sleep with no outside or traffic noise. The room was fairly small, but more than adequate - the hotel clearly had been renovated recently and fittings and decor were really nice. The public areas are lovely and the room we had was decorated in lovely soothing colours.. Both the room and the bathroom were absolutely spotlessly clean and the maid came i every day and replenished toiletries. Breakfast was excellent - honestly don't know what there is to complain about; served in a lovely dining room with a choice of cereals, fruit juices, bread (really tasty small batons or brown or white for toasting), cold meats, cheese, and a hot plate serving omelette and sausage, machine with coffee and hot water for teas - choose from several options, i.e. green, peppermint, English breakfast.
The Hotel Sant Agusti is in a great location, 2 minutes to Las Ramblas and if you turn to the left when you come out of the hotel, 4 minutes will take you to Ramblas del Raval - really liked this as this seemed to be favoured by locals with lots of small restaurants and cafes, palm trees and seats lining the Ramblas from where you could watch the world go by. Fabulous huge bronze sculpture of a cat - worth going to see. From this Ramblas you can easily get to Paral-lel where you can catch the funicular railway up Montjuic, then the Gondola to the very top from where there is the most fantastic view of the city - not to be missed! Also, easy to get to the Port - 10 minute walk and Placa Catalunya - 10 minutes. We would have absolutely no hesitation in returning to this Hotel - it is just so handy for everywhere, and clean and comfortable.
Others have mentioned vagrants and people sleeping in the square outside the hotel, but quite honestly you see this all over Barcelona along with the graffitti So you really need to look beyond this and accept it for what it is. In general, no-one bothers you.

I have just arrived home from my hen weekend with 13 other ladies, Location of hotel is amazing close to everything, when we first arrived our room was quite small (3 of us stayed in a triple room) really it should of been double only, I spoke to the man on reception and he said he would see if we could be moved the next day, and he did as promised to a much better room. the hotel is basic but clean and the rooms are cleaned daily, towels changed and beds made. The breakfast is basic but for the price we paid it was great to have breakfast included at all. If your looking for a cheap hotel but quality this is the one.

Stayed here just before Christmas. Yards from Las Ramblas and the Liceu Metro station.

The excellent Boqueria is next door, no better place to sit on one of the high stools and enjoy early morning tapas washed down by a cold beer.

The reception staff were friendly and accommodating. Our room overlooked the square and was modern and clean. Breakfast was a mix of hot and cold buffet which was available upto 11am which was a bonus.

Will definitely stay here again

Pros - handy location just off La Rambla. Impressive foyer. Next door to nice restaurant Rita Blue with good food and friendly staff. Situated on a pleasant square.

Cons - surly, bordering on hostile, reception staff who mutter to themselves in spanish. No "welcome to Barcelona" or even a smile. Tiny, spartan room, no mini bar, restaurant only open for basic buffet breakfast, no information of any kind in rooms, have to hire key for in room safe at 1.50 euro per day.

Would not recommend. Must be other more hospitable hotels in the same area.

Just 50 meters from the Ramblas and metrostation Liceu this hotel is perfect located. It gives you good value for your money. The staff can be a bit friendlier and the breakfast is not efficient organized, but hey: if that's the only inconvience there is... The bed are real Spanish: a bit hard. The hotel is an old monestary and some details can be found in the hotel. There is also free wifi.
So: if you're looking for a hotel in the centre of Barcelona and you don't want to spend a fortune: this is a great hotel.

The hotel from the front is modern and extremely clean. The main lobby is beautifully decorated with a prominent 'stone' theme with stone tiles, pillars and rendered walls..

THE GOOD!

- The staff are extremely caring and always help you find the best deals! They think logically and can offer personal opinions on places to eat and visit. They spoke fluent English which is always handy when you're surrounded by a different language!
- There are computers available with superfast internet connection which incurs no extra cost!
- The 'continental' breakfast was amazing! I was extremely satisfied and surprised by the extensive choice and quality of the breakfas! I was expecting a piece of toast, cup of tea and a croissant if you were lucky! But I was greeted to various pastries, toast, a hot buffet consisting of sausages and scrambled egg and a wide variety of juices, yogurts and cereal!
- The air conditioning worked amazingly well, and is definitely needed during the hot summer! The only downside is that it is rather noisy when you're trying to get to sleep, but hey, all air con systems are noisy!
- The TV was perfect, but there were few english speaking channels, 2 out of 16!
- The bathroom had everything you needed, including a bath, and was extremely clean!
-The previous reviews about a smell of sewage around the hotel obviously haven't visited mediterranean cities before! I smelt no sewage, only a typical mediterranean city smell which from experience is a very faint tinge of rubbish, but seeming as the whole city is very densely populated, this was expected!
-The rumours of homeless people outside the hotel were non-existent, i looked but could not find any!
-The walls were not paper thin, I never heard a peep out of our neighbours!

THE BAD
- I would have preferred to sleep on bricks as oppose to those pillows and mattress, the pillow was hard and could uncomfortably bend your neck when sleeping, bring your own pillow!
-The lights in the corridor of the rooms were on sensors, so the place looks dark as even during the day, the sensors were on!
- I can't find any more, this place was amazing!

Overall, I would recommend this hotel for people staying for short city breaks, its close proximity to La Rambla really helped!

Hi check in time is 2.00 and I think check out time is 12.00. They have a secure room behind reception desk to store your bags if you arrive before check in time or you need to leave them after check out
