The staff are terrific, very friendly and helpful, without exception. Unfortunately, on the day we arrived, the lift broke! We were on the 4th floor and I have COPD. We were given a different room on the 1st floor the very next day, without any fuss. All the rooms were very clean and had everything you wanted, with the exception of tea/coffee making facilities, but you could get a hot drink from the reception area without any problem. The safe in the room was free. Towels were changed every day. Breakfast, continental, had a really good choice of meats, cheeses, cereals, pastries etc etc. The Hotel is situated down a narrow street approximately 100 yards from The Ramblas, which is ideal as a location to get anywhere.

The location of this hotel was perfect for us. Just off Las Ramblas in the Gothic Quarter and less than a minute to Placa Reial. The Gothic Quarter, as with some other areas, can feel a little unsafe after dark however this hotel is literally a few steps off the main street and we felt completely safe.

The heating was slow to heat the room however we were give an additional heater immediately upon asking.

Breakfast was plentiful and fresh - tea, coffee, toast, jams, bread, pastries, ham, cheese, cereal, fruit and yoghurt . Would have been great to have had a kettle in the room so we could have had a coffee at anytime.

The hotel was spotlessly clean, the staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful and we very much hope to meet them all again on our next visit.

Hotel California Barcelona is in the middle of the Gothic quarter , perfect location for restaurants and an easy walk to the Harbour area. This hotel is boutique in style with a little but quaint lobby. Rooms are small, not much larger than a double bed but the bathrooms are beautiful with white marble and a floor to ceiling terrace window , mine had a large bathtub. The best part was the breakfast , a decently expansive buffet with meat, cheese and pastries plus coffee and juices served over generous time frame. Beds are on the hard side , not much top padding. Still, I'd highly recommend this place, very good value for the price you pay .

We got put in a room opposite a night club which was open until 6am Saturday and 230 Sunday. I am pregnant so this was awful because we didn’t get any sleep.

The walls are so thin and even when you shut the door you can hear every little sound. Every morning we were woken up by the street cleaners or someone drilling at about 7am after our few hour of sleeping.

I booked this because the reviews said it was in a quiet area so we were highly disappointed it. The room itself is basic, our safe didn’t work from day 1. You have to give your key in every time you leave which is a pain because when you come back you can’t just go straight to your room you have to wait and collect your key. Breakfast is poor

Wouldn’t return

To begin with, the room that was given was located in the 1st floor and there was a window that was located in the interior of the hotel (not on the road side but that was acceptable). It was not acceptable at all, that the room was smelly and dirty so bad smell mixed with humidity that caused discomfort and walls were really dirty i guess from humidity. We said OK it is one night we're gone deal with that, but the story continue by the time we saw the bed sheets, the pillows and the bathroom. We saw hair everywhere, it looks like the room was not cleaned at all except the toilet maybe it looked that it was just tided up after the previous check out. Very dissapointed, we asked for room change and told that was not any other room left for that night... The only reason that i give 2 star instead of 1 is the location was insane great so close to Las Ramblas and the stuff was gentle despite the fact that our problem was not solved. I do not have opinion for other rooms or other floors maybe it is better, but the specific room condition was really bad

The hotel was right in the middle of las ramblas, close to everything. It is off a side street so was abit nervous walking in and out but it was only for a second. The rooms are lovely and clean with 2 balconies either side. Room has aircon and toiletries in the bathroom. The breakfast was very basic, bread fruit and cereal with tea and coffee, so anyone expecting a fry, you wont get it here. But if you walk to main area in las ramblas, lots of restaurants serve 'english breakfast'. The best thing about the hotel is the staff. Everyone is so lovely and helpful and friendly.

The rooms are of adequate size and are kept very clean. The hotel staff are helpful and friendly. The Hotel is well located for restaurants and bars of many styles and prices, and the subway station is a short walk away giving access to the extensive Barcelona transport system which gives easy access to all the places of interest. A good tip is to buy a travel pass which covers the subway system, busses and tram. Please note, it does not include the cable cars.

Not even close to a 3 star hotel. The man who checked us in was by far the worst customer service we experienced in Barcelona. Our room was not ready (which was anticipated), but our bags were pushed behind the desk (by me as he didn't even get up) and no security over our bags existed. I ended up carrying my computer bag all day since I didn't trust the security. The room was pathetic. Hasn't been updated in probably 30 years and the room had a smell that could not be avoided. Given all the hotels in the area, I wouldn't stay here again if you paid me. We ended up leaving after being in the room for 10 minutes max and the guy behind the desk shouted "no refunds" when I asked. Find another place.

Located in the Gothic quarter, this hotel is located on a pedestrian side street. It's nothing fancy, but you're paying for the location near La Ramblas. My room was located on the top, 4th floor. It was spacious with a queen size bed, two end tables, sufficient lighting, desk, plenty of storage, and an adequate heating system. The show took some time to get warm. Breakfast, an amenity, should be missed. You are close to many shops and restaurants along Ferran. The front desk personnel are extremely helpful. I'd stay here again.

This was always my goto hotel in Barcelona. Descent Breakfast, great location a little spartan but clean and neat. But as a consequence of the covid problems they canceled my reservation and flat refused to refund my full payment. This leads me to the conclusion that if there is anything out of the ordinary the hotel is the first priority. Will never stay there again.
