The Cambria Hotel Pittsburgh - Downtown is a go-to for its close proximity to PPG Arena, attracting guests who are in town for events. While the cleanliness and comfort of the rooms, particularly the beds and bathrooms, receive positive remarks, guests have called out the need for better housekeeping. Geneva was so friendly the minute we ran into her in the hallway when checking into our room. She offered to help us with anything and made sure our room was up to our satisfaction! She was so sweet and her kindness was appreciated!

Had never previously stayed at this brand and wasn’t sure what to expect. Came with my family for a trip to the Penguins game and Carnegie Science Centre.

We were pleasantly surprised. I initially had an issue with my booking confirmation, but I called the front desk and the staff couldn’t have been more pleasant, professional and very helpful. Not only addressing my concern, but asking about our trip plans had a lot of energy making us even more excited for our trip there and making recommendations for us during our stay.

As Choice members enrolled prior to booking online, we were afforded a very early check in, which was great because we got to town early so we could enjoy downtown Pittsburgh. We were given a $10 credit to use at the hotel which was a great perk and came in handy. Parking was easy and reasonable in a city where most parking seems to be expensive during the week and not a lot of on site parking. Mostly people walking to and from parking garages with few in and out privileges.

Never having been to the city the staff were very helpful in answering our questions. The shuttle service wasn’t running at the time, but downtown and market square were only a short 15 min walk. No problem walking downtown even for my 5 year old.

The hotel was clean, the lobby had great deals and atmosphere if you are going to a Penguins game this hotel is the ONLy place to stay. Our room was also clean and very large for the value. The hotel is so close to the PPG Paints arena that they almost look attached. So convenient and easy to get to and from the game. As an added bonus my son is a huge Pens fan and could see players driving/walking into the arena lot from our parking area. So cool for him.

We were very pleased with the value and service at this hotel. Breakfast was good but pricey for the portions. Overall a great stay. We will almost definitely stay here again next time we come to town for a Pens game. Great family fun!

Was there for the NCAA Volleyball Final Four in 2019. PPG Arena was right across the street, where the event was held. Is within walking distance of downtown Pittsburgh, which was great to go tour and see. The hotel offers a courtesy shuttle service if you need to go into Pittsburgh. Unfortunately, it only goes within two miles of the hotel, and the new manager has trimmed down the hours when the shuttle is active. Johnny O is a great driver, and shared his experiences and thoughts about restaurants, and places to see in town. Would stay there again is I was in town. There is not a free continental breakfast in the morning, but, it does have a full cafe with a bar for evening entertainment. $4.00 for a bowl of cold cereal.

The seller here is the proximity to the PPG arena. You can’t argue that the location is convenient. This was our second visit to the property, our initial visit was in 8/2019 to attend a concert. I would have given our experience then a 3 out 5. Not last night.... disgusting, filthy room. This hotel sees some hard core partying from fans and concert goers: time to update, refresh and sterilize. We requested a room on a high floor and we got stuck on the lowest level directly above the loud lobby. Ouch! On “event nights” at the in house restaurant, they have a abbreviated menu at their restaurant. (No change in choice since August, wonder if they ever serve the actual menu?) We were traveling from out of state, so unless you want to fight traffic or order grub hub, you are stuck at their dining establishment. We took our chances and ate there and experienced quite frankly one of the rudest servers we may have ever encountered. The food was equivalent to fast food. We asked for a drink menu and the server didn’t like our question, and loudly called the other server over to inform her that she didn’t want to wait on us. Seriously?? We were being quiet and polite. Photos show the filthy bathroom, pubic hair on the desk and our lovely $200 view.
Never ever again will we stay here.

Hello, We are so sorry that you had a poor experience with us. We wish you would have contacted the front desk for any of these problems that you had during your stay. We're glad at least you liked the location. Rudeness from our associates is never tolerated. Again. we wish you would have mentioned this to someone so that we would directly deal with the issue. The photos of the dark caulking in your bathroom was a decorating choice that we regret. Again, we could have changed your room if we would have known it was an issue for you. We're sorry to hear that you wont be returning and joining the many other happy guests that have stayed with us and return frequently. We don't quite understand why none of these issues were brought up to any of our associates. We would have been more than happy to assist in making your stay less stressful.

My husband and I stayed here two years ago and enjoyed it. We saw it was on Hotwire as a hot deal for our 2 day trip to Pittsburgh so we booked it. The hotel itself definitely needs a refresh. The carpet and fixtures are shabby.

Our first room did not have a working deadbolt lock and we asked to get that taken care of. We were moved to another room a few hours after check in, and they told us they would refund our parking for the inconvenience. The rest of the stay was uneventful—the second room was functional and seemed clean. The bed was very hard and the a/c made annoying noises all night.

There is apparently no restaurant here any more, just the bar, and it is randomly open. When I inquired the bartender about food she handed me a menu for a pizza place down the street. However, I saw people eating breakfast at the tables the morning we checked out.. but they could have went and got the food from somewhere.

There are restaurants in the city but it is a long walk, especially in the rain. This hotel is convenient for events at PPG Arena, but if you are looking to do more in the city you’re going to have to drive and pay for more parking. They have a shuttle, but it says it didn’t run on Sundays and I can’t imagine they have enough employees working to operate it, being that we saw like one person working at a time anytime we came to the lobby. Sometimes just the bartender was there when the bar was randomly open.

They do not give you maid service, so you need to ask the front desk if you need extra towels, toilet paper, etc. All employees that we encountered were friendly and helpful.

The parking situation is really stupid and it is why I won’t stay here again. They charge you $20 a night plus a 6 dollar city tax to park in an unsecured lot. On our previously stay you needed your room key to get into the parking lot, but that system is broken and in disrepair so literally anyone could come park here or be In the lot, which means random people could come into the hotel as well. Didn’t like that at all. There’s no way they check the lot either, because they can’t have enough employees working to do that.

After being told we would get our parking refunded for our room issue, we were still charged for it upon checking our. My husband made a phone call to the front desk (after 3 attempts because no one would answer the phone) and they told us that they will process the refund and didn’t give us a hard time about it.

To sum it up, unless you are going to the PPG arena for an event, there are better places to try in Pittsburgh!

The best thing about this hotel is its convenient location next to PPG Paints Arena. The arena is literally spitting distance from the hotel.

That being said, I’m not sure I would bother staying here again unless I’m going to an event at the arena.

We first arrived around 4:30pm to check in and were informed that our room wasn’t ready. They had 4 members of the housekeeping staff out sick and so room cleaning was behind schedule.

I don’t know if those 4 people were out sick with Covid, but it was a thought that immediately called into question the cleanliness of the place.

Anyway, we were told the room would be ready in 45 mins. We came back at 6pm (so 45 min x 2) and were informed the room STILL wasn’t ready. We witnessed plenty of other guests aggravated by the same news.

So we lugged our bags back to the car again and went out to dinner. Came back at 8pm and were finally able to check in! Yay!

When we got to our room, it seemed as if the housekeeping was rushed, likely due to the staffing issues. There were handprints all over the window. There was a clump of hair matted into the carpet. A few basic amenities were missing (like cups and restaurant/bar information that you get at even the cheapest hotels).

But the bed was made (hopefully with clean sheets) and there was no trash in the room, so there’s at least that! Still concerned about the cleanliness of the place, as I mentioned before.

Then I noticed I got overcharged.

My reservation said my total price (tax included) was $254.80. I was charged $330.26.

I went down to the front desk to ask if there was a security deposit or something that would be refunded down to what my reservation said, provided I didn’t damage anything. A fairly normal practice, but I would have preferred to be informed up front.

The guy at the front desk said there was a $50 security deposit that would drop my charge down to $280.26.

Given that $280.26 doesn’t match what my reservation said, I think he was making it up on the spot and that I was getting ripped off.

They had the nerve to send me a “thank you” email that showed the original $254.80 price again, even though they charged me more than that.

My wife thought they should be giving people free drinks or discounting the rooms to make up for the inconvenience of having to wait so long to check in, but no, they overcharged us instead lol

To top it all off, the walls are paper thin. We could hear everything going on in the room next to us—ALL night—and they were NOT quiet.

One thing I will say though… Some of the other reviews say the drinks at the bar are overpriced. I actually don’t think that’s true. Maybe everyone else is ordering drinks different than what we did, but I found the prices to be in line with what we pay at most other bars. And the drinks were good!

As an experienced traveler, I can honestly say this was the worst stay I remember in a long time. The rooms were old, smelled like mold (my AC was leaking onto carpet). They do not make up the rooms daily which is fine, but they also do not provide fresh towels unless you ask daily. The service at breakfast was horrendous (they only had one server for the entire place) and she really tried hard but was overwhelmed. The bar did not open until 5:00PM and did not open at all on Sunday. With a wedding group staying at the hotel and a Steeler home game, you would think they would have planned better. On Monday morning when we checked out, the restaurant was closed, could not even get coffee. The rooms are very outdated, the pool area is dirty and the hot tub was empty and is really a safety hazard since it is not covered. This is the worst hotel I have stayed at in many years.

Stayed here while in the area on business. This hotel was actually recommended by the Department at Duquesne University. The hotel was located near downtown, and close to the University, and UPMC and next to the PPG Paint Arena. When I arrived, the guy at the desk greeted me and was friendly; and my room was ready. The room was okay. It was a decent size since the hotel is all suites. It had a mini refrigerator, a coffee maker, and a microwave in the room. There were two flat screen TVs, one in the seating area, and another in the area where the bed was located. The bathroom was also a decent size and had a blow dryer available. There were mini toiletries but I didn't use them because I brought my own. There were also adequate towels. The closet had an iron and ironing board and an extra blanket for use.

The hotel had a large entry with ample seating a bar area and tables with outlets/USB plugs. The two bar attendants Leslie, and another guy who helped me order food the night I arrived 01/15 were very kind. There is also a mini store to the right of the front desk to buy snacks and soft drinks if you need for your room. The hotel also offered a shuttle which was a God send. All the shuttle drivers were super nice. In the morning we had a older African American gentleman, and in the afternoon we had John who was super friendly, and gave us the best suggestions on downtown restaurants. The stay here was nice, but I would definitely stay here again mainly because they offer the complimentary shuttle service and all the staff were friendly.

When you think you are paying more money for supposedly upscale hotel next to the PPG Arena one would believe they could meet some basic expectations.. We have stayed in cleaner $50.00/night hotels than this one. The shower had mold growing out of the shower. The coffee maker was gross with some kind of growth. Went to the pool/hot tub and the hot tub is drained and the pool is full of hair. The room is dirty and tiles are falling off the walls. They keep the entrance, foyer, and bar area immaculate, but once you get upstairs everything changes. By far the worst experience staying at a Cambria. The desk staff were however very courteous. I left a note for housekeeping on day 2 of our stay about the shower and coffee maker, but they never came back during our stay. I am more disappointed more than anything..

I had called the hotel the day before arrival to make sure our room could sleep two adults and two teenagers. Mario was so helpful and answered all our questions. I told him that I read other reviews about no hot water and he explained that during COVID the hotel often had just 5% occupancy which inhibits a hotel's mechanicals from working well. The hot water will not be constantly circulating and it could take a long time for the hot water to reach the fifth floor. That all made sense to me and we had no problems with hot water during our stay. Mario had upgraded us to the Tower Suite which had an awesome view of the city. The one drawback was that it was unusually cool that weekend and our room was cold at night no matter what we set the thermostat. Turns out that the tower suite is on the main ac system and cant be adjusted. The manager did bring a space heater which did help. Mario was always very accommodating and allowed our volleyball team to have a pizza celebration in the banquet room. Our room was clean and we were very happy with our stay. If you do park in their lot they do charge $20 per night but there is street parking across the street which is free after 6pm and on Sunday.
