Karen M wrote a review Mar 2020

When we arrived, Catherine greeted us with her friendly personality and graciously upgraded our room, due to us being on our honeymoon (and availability, of course). She was very helpful and informative throughout our stay, as was all of the staff.

The room was very cozy, and the bed was extremely comfortable. You can see the original stone and some wooden beams protruding from the walls. The shower, of course, was a very cool highlight of the room, with a “rain” setting and color-changing lights, if you choose to use them.

Breakfast was another highlight of our stay, with a basket of goodies waiting for us every morning. It typically consisted of a sizable piece of quiche, yogurt, fruit, a pastry, and the best smoked salmon/cream cheese/croissant that either of have ever had. And each basket had a personalized tag w room numbers and guest names. There were other pastry and juice options available as well, and delicious coffee.

The location is perfect and very walkable to many restaurants, bars, art galleries and the Notre Dame Basilica. We can’t wait to go back to Montreal and the Epik Hotel!

Everything about staying here was great. The hospitality was the best we've experienced.

We weren't planning on staying in Montreal, but a severe snow storm forced the cancellation of all the flights to Quebec City and the airport hotel was full. It was extremely cold, and it was snowing heavily when we landed. Staying at Epik was a spur of the moment decision.

Catherine, the night manager, met us outside ( it was -12 C), to help us park and get our stuff in. She made sure the restaurant stayed open so that we could have supper. Justin, our server, was fantastic, as was the food: osso bucco, lamb chops, and a magnificent beet/ chevre/ roquette salad.

Our room had a stone wall and overlooked the street. It was enchanting. The shower was strong and hot. There are exposed beams in the room.

At breakfast, there was a homemade crepe, yogurt with fruit, a muffin, amazing croissants, coffee and tea and a handwritten note thanking us for our stay.

Literally everything about last night was magical. It almost made up for the canceled flight, the lost bag, Air Canada's non-functional website, etc. We are still driving to Quebec City for Winter carnival, but we were tempted to possibly stay in Montreal because of our experience at the hotel.

Thank you so much, Ann for this amazing review! It was really a pleasure to welcome you, even in this cold winter storm!! An enchanting room, I love it! As I told you Friday evening, for sure you will need to come back to see us in the summer, I know you will love it. And maybe next time, for a longer, planned stay! :) Until next time! Epikly! We stayed in Room 101, the main photo of this establishment. It was a very spacious room. It was well maintained, clean, and a great replica of what a lodging place would offer during the yesteryear times of Vieux Port. Excellent location! Our room faced Rue St. Paul; it did get noisy out there, but nothing Epik could control. Just be prepared.

The breakfast offerings and overall approach need a complete overhaul! "Bagged Breakfast" just does not fly for a place like this. The yogurt, side fruit toppings, and juice were good. The granola bars were tasty, although there was no variation for 3 days. The entrees were disgusting; inedible for this palate. Feed the tourists what they want and are used to.

A note about parking.... The B&B has recently engaged with a parking firm for spots directly behind the hotel. They add the parking charges to the hotel bill. They offer in-out privileges, and they lock a bar on the steering wheel. The lot is manned 24x7. It is more expensive than other area parking options, but the convenience is worth the extra $7/day.

Fix your breakfast, Epik, and you'll get 5 stars from me.

The hotel is located in the heart of the old city. It didn’t look like our regular big chain hotel so we were drawn to it. There are lots of shops and restaurants and entertainment nearby. The hotel staff was very helpful and hospitable. I give them five+ stars.
The drawbacks. There is no elevator, so if carrying your luggage is an issue you might want to request a low floor. The front desk person carried ours upstairs and I felt bad about it. She wasn’t the big burly bellhop needed for heavy luggage. But she did it without a problem. The checkin person is also the bellman, waitress, concierge, etc.
The lighting in our room was not good. All the lights were on and I still could not have worked in there - it was was very dark. Luckily I always take a lighted makeup mirror with me, otherwise I’m not sure I could have applied my makeup.
The breakfast I would consider a premium continental breakfast. Croissants or a croissant sandwich, juice, a small fruit cup and breakfast cookies or small muffins. Plenty to eat but it was refrigerator cold. We had an arranged breakfast time so it seems like the breakfast could have been taken out of the refrigerator early enough that it wasn’t so cold the sandwich couldn’t be pulled apart.
The bed was fair.
Overall, if you aren’t particular about the details this unique hotel will be a great location with a hospitable and helpful staff.

My husband and I just spent a long weekend in Montreal and the hotel's location, staff and charm made our trip great! The staff was super helpful in responding to our queries about the city and had great recommendations on where to visit. The building was adorable and the room was comfortable and very charming. Great part of the city to visit as well.

In centre of old town, this boutique hotel has a great location. The king room was large and stylish with exposed brickwork. Drawback is noise from street and rooms above where every foot reverberates. Although breakfast is included, this is served in a box and is basic ( yogurt muffin etc). There is little service- no room cleaning, no replacement of water or coffee. It’s a bit more like an air bnb not a moderately priced hotel.

Hello, We thank you for your review and your feedback. We are happy to hear that you had a good time with us even with the covid restrictions. We are sorry to see the street was noisy during your stay. In fact, the hotel is located in the most touristic part of Montreal, which means the streets can be crowded sometimes. We are at some point back to normal regarding our cleaning service now. We will be delighted to welcome you back to our hotel.

On arrival we were told that we had recd an upgrade. This consisted of being on the 2nd floor, which with no elevator didn't equate to an upgrade at all.

The men at the front desk didn't offer to help with the luggage until management got involved. Brutal.

The place is hidden behind the facade of a restaurant. Parking is $32 so plan accordingly.

Breakfast is meh.

Room is a 3.

Location is a 5.

Service is a 3.

Price is a 2.

Thanks for your review. EPIK does have an amazing location. The hotel is a boutique hotel of 10 rooms, in a building of almost 200 years old, so no for 3 floors, this building does not have an elevator. We are sorry that you did not like our upgrade, they are not related to the floor but the type of room you originally booked. We either upgraded you from the courtyard room (in the middle of the lobby and restaurant) to a Queen room upstairs (larger and quieter) or from a Queen room to a King room (much larger with brick and stone walls). We are sorry that no one offered you a hand with your things right away, but never hesitate to ask if you need help. As for the parking, the partnership that we have is 32+tx/night (for a regular car), and our guests have in-and-out privileges. But there are other options close by with similar prices, but by DAY and without in and out. Still, that parking does not belong to us. We hope you still enjoyed your time in out beautiful city Epikly!

They have customer service down perfectly here. We were greeted so warmly by the front desk person, Mike. He was very attentive, funny, and friendly. When we told him it was our first time to Montreal - he gave us a very customized list of places he recommended, and after the first few, we knew we had to go to every one of them because he was 100% right that we would absolutely love everything he recommended. The hotel is extremely clean and very quiet. The bed is very comfortable and our room was Unique, cozy and memorable. We will be back regularly and will recommend this place to everyone! You can walk to outstanding dining(Try Tommy and Bloom!!), lovely bakeries, the water, and even a John Fluevog store is across the street! Truly isn’t a better place to stay when visiting Montreal… Stay in old town!

Perfect location in old Montreal. Very comfortable bed, and breakfast room service was a nice touch. Only complaints are that the room seemed to be very poorly insulated against sound from the room above, and that the plumbing in the bathroom was poorly installed and was very finicky.

If you want to stay in Montreal, there can’t really be a better location. Epik is in the Old Port area, and is surrounded by a lot of fantastic bars and restaurants, as well as being convenient for the Convention Centre and much else. It’a small hotel, with lovely staff. Downsides; the breakfast wasn’t exactly great, and the hotel has no lift. If you find 4 flights of stairs an issue, ask to stay on the first floor. Bathroom and shower excellent, and bed very comfortable. If I go back to Montreal I will want to stay here.

There is a bar in the lobby and a restaurant. But not sure a way to Keep milk cold. Hotel was marvelous and cannot beat location. Why not call hotel explain your desire and see if they can accommodate. In winter put it near window.
