OHANA Waikiki East by OUTRIGGER is often celebrated for its welcoming atmosphere and the comfort of its well-appointed, though occasionally dated, rooms. The hotel boasts a high standard of cleanliness with newly renovated spaces receiving additional commendation. While some facilities have drawn minor criticisms, the updated pool and the hotel's proximity to the beach, local shops, and dining are popular highlights. The warm and efficient service provided by the staff enhances the experience, contributing to the overall value, which is viewed differently among guests, with some noting extra fees.

This was a decent hotel. It was clean and the staff were friendly. The room had a minifridge, toaster and microwave so we had breakfast in our room to help to reduce costs.
We had a king sized bed which was quite comfortable.
From this location it was only a couple of blocks from Waikiki beach and many shops and restaurants.
We were moved from our original room as the air conditioner was producing a constant drip of water onto the carpet and we couldn't open our balcony door. The staff was quite accommodating and the move was not difficult.
The swimming pool was quite cold (I don't think it was heated) so we didn't use it as much as we would have liked. The hot tub was comfortable.
I only gave this hotel 3 stars because of the noisy construction going on next door and across the street. Noise from the construction started most mornings before 7am. I know this is not the fault of our hotel but its something for a visitor to consider if going to Honolulu in the near future. The construction in both locations is just starting so will likely be ongoing for some time.
I note that all of the hotels charge an "ammenity" fee. The fee for this hotel was $20.00 US per night and charged when you check out of the hotel. I think this fee is underhanded and a hidden fee to make the hotel more money while making their room price appear more reasonable. I would much rather have hotels be upfront about the total cost of a room in their advertised pricing as opposed to adding this fee to the fine print. Be careful when looking into hotels as this fee of $20.00 was one of the lower fees for hotels in the area. This can add quite a cost to your holiday.

Boomed two rooms for a week on a family trip. Really had the best time. Check in was smooth and we were able to get in early with no issues. Desk agent was friendly and very informative. The rooms are quite satisfactory. The housekeeping came regularly to replenish things as needed. We stayed on the 5th floor, it was pretty quiet and the view was nice. Short walk to the beach. ABC convenience store just across the street. We did not have a car so we were spared the daily parking fee - bus stops are very near. The pool was out of service during our stay, however we were offered the ability to use the pool at their sister hotel close by. We didn’t end up going though - no need when the ocean is so close! They did provide beach towels which was nice. They had extra pillows and blankets in each room, which I appreciate. I had a wardrobe malfunction and they provided a couple of sewing kits at no charge. Air conditioning worked well also. Beds were comfortable, pillows a bit squishier then I would like. Only cons was that there is no microwave and the little area where the coffee pot is set up had no plug to plug coffee pot in so we had to move it by the TV. We tried all 3 restaurants during our stay - all great. We had a flight leaving in the evening so we were able to get a late check out @ 12pm, store our luggage at the bell desk so we could enjoy one last day at the beach and then we were able to use a “hospitality room” for an hour so we could shower and freshen up before leaving for the airport. These luxuries really impressed us and made our travel day so much more bearable. Really enjoyed our stay!

Aloha spirit!
We are so happy we did our homework and found this great example of true aloha.
We’ve stayed at far more expensive resorts-this time we added up what was truly important to us Central location, clean room, comfy bed and great price. Our room had a small kitchenette, so we bought milk and cereal to nosh in morning still in our jammies.
Mahalo for such friendly check in with Sarah🌺she is kind and helpful.
The crew at Aroma Cafe lobby level, hard working and welcoming🍍coffee is delish, yummy breakfast menu…so you have to wait a bit..you’re on vacation! It’s worth it🍍
We will certainly return😍

I had a two double bed room on the 15th floor (tip: use the express elevator around the corner from the three main elevators). The room was larger than expected, although the bathroom was a little cramped. The sink is in the same room as the toilet, which reduces multi-person use. The showerhead effused with plenty of water flow. I'd say the most water flow I've ever seen in a hotel.

Parking with in/out privileges was convenient, although it did require an extra daily fee. Note that the parking garage entrance is on Kuhio Ave. My GPS sent me to the drop-off entrance on Kanekapolei St.

Because the in-house pool was closed we were directed to use the pool at their sister property the Waikiki Beachcomber. While this property seemed to be just around the corner on the map they provided, the actual walk there was a little longer than I expected.

Our stay included breakfast vouchers, redeemable at the Aroma Caffee in the lobby level or the Fire Grill across the street at the Garden Inn. Various breakfast sandwiches were available to select with the voucher, or any entree was available for a $5 upgrade fee. The Fire Grill is a more formal sit down restaurant. There the voucher is good for two eggs plus two sides (meat/potatoes), or the voucher can be redeemed for $12 off any other breakfast entree.

I only have two negatives to say. One is that the A/C only has 4 modes: high, med, low, off. You can't choose a specific temperature. Also there is some sound leakage between rooms as I could hear some talking and faint snoring at times, but nothing loud enough to disturb my sleep.

Nothing to complain if we just want a no frill stay nor are we expecting a team to "wow" you by staying ahead your needs.

Most of my encounter with staff at the Front Office on different days were fine despite in my opinion in some situations were clinical, nothing above and beyond by offering alternatives or solutions nor can the team remember which room I was from depsite staying for 20 days and can only address by name after referring to system.

Niether did the team acknowldge that my recent stay was as a returned guest (It was stated in the reservation that I had a copy).

Neverthelss they will fulfill my needs upon request i.e. higher floor rooms that is not directly facing a buidling under construction / renovation (Something forseeble when my stay is about 3 weeks).

Most of the staff were unaware of surroundings information such as public transportation or the less prominent places of interest like Byodo-in temple either than Ed from the Activity Desk who even went the extra mile to walk me down the escalator to show the bus-stop despite I said not to.

Nor I was told that their swimming pool on site is under renovation when I placed the reservation, and would need to go to anoher sister-property located 0.3 miles away to use the pool, and that pool is not that big either to accommdate both hotels' guests; only went there once and all deck chairs were occupied.

However, my stay had been comfortable despite needing to ask for replenishment of amentinies on 2 different ocassions in which I was unsure why Coffee and Tea were not replenished on certain days by Housekeeping.

The Bell team will always greet, and Kalani was commendable by offering to store my other luggage while suggesting that I only take what I need to the hospitality room before I requested for it.

Although my lower floor room may be jaded but at least it was clean. The second room was much better and I believe the room was priced differently but it was given to me at the same rate probably due to my extended stay and the room was not taken during that duration.

Location is awesome being super convenient to everything a traveller would need from food, shopping, transportation etc. And it is the location, location and location that compensated the rest of the mediocre experience encountered.

While the hotel is a bit dated, the property was very family-friendly and the location was super convenient. We were greeted warmly upon arrival at the hotel by concierge and front desk staff. Check-in was quick and friendly. Our 1 bedroom partial ocean view suite was very spacious and the beds were comfortable. The balcony gave us fantastic views of the ocean, the mountains and Waikiki!

We also stayed in a 2 bedrooms 2 bathrooms suite, which was comfortable but not quite as great and somewhat misleading. It was basically two single queen bedrooms connected by a small enclosed hallway with the kitchenette and dining table completely situated in one of the bedrooms. If you value space and plan to use the kitchenette often like we did, this suite is not recommended.

The pool was undergoing maintenance during our stay so we made use of the rooftop pool and hot tub at their sister property, Waikiki Beachcomber by Outrigger, which was close by and really nice. Just a bit of a hassle carrying swim bags, beach towels and gigantic tubes.

There is a self-service coin laundromat located at street level, which was super convenient. The hotel is also surrounded by plenty of shopping (right next door to The International Marketplace) and dining options, and situated only a block away from Waikiki Beach. Housekeeping was very friendly whenever we passed by in the halls, and the front desk staff were always so helpful. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

Our Hotel is in a great location just a few blocks from the Waikiki beach. It’s close to the zoo and many attractions. The staff is very friendly and took care of any issues we had immediately. The rooms are large and clean. The staff cleans daily unlike many hotels. You should know before you come that the pool is not open due to repairs but you get access to a sister property but it is a bit of a hike. I would suggest getting a king suite on the 18th floor. They are very spacious and have a microwave and dishes. Things you should know during COVID. Currently you are required to show a vaccinated card and your ID to sit down and eat or drink anywhere on the island. The Bus will get you anywhere for $5.50 a day but you have to buy your pass at the ABC stores prior to riding to get the all day deal. We took the bus all the way to the north shore and also to Pearl Harbor.

I read a lot of the reviews before booking this hotel and all of them said a great location, all main sites are a walkable distance. I don't walk a lot and I can say that this hotel is close to everything! Waikiki Beach is less than a 5 minute walk at a nice leisurely pace. Main drag with shops and markets is a 4 minute walk. The hotel is still stuck in the 80s with it's decor but it has everything you need and is clean! So who cares?

Although the decor could benefit from an update starting with a coat of paint on the walls to cover the scuff marks, the location of this property is terrific. Easy on the budget, will save money for the costlier things in Waikiki. Provides a comfortable night’s sleep and a place to return to for a rest in the afternoon, recognizing that you are probably going to spend most of the day at the beach or doing other activities anyway. Best of all the staff, and in particular the cleaning staff we encountered, were really friendly and helpful.
