The Rimondi Grand Resort & Spa garners commendation for its cleanliness, though the pre-booking requirement for room cleaning has led to some service gaps. While some guests appreciate the serene setting and views, others find the location too remote. Opinions on service are divided, with reports of both helpful staff and unfriendly attitudes. Amenities like pools are a hit, but the costs and restrictions on drinks draw criticism. Room conditions have left several patrons dissatisfied, and the atmosphere is often described as lacking energy. Overall, many feel the resort falls short in providing value for the price.

Hotel's Favourite
We have just returned from a week at this wonderful hotel.
Let me just say up front, I loved this hotel and highly recommended it.
It is one of the most relaxing places I have ever stayed and I am an experienced traveller.

Like others we read the reviews and wondered what we were coming to. Yes, there are rules like "don't drink too much", "don't make too much noise", "be respectful to fellow holiday makers" etc etc, but do you know what, I totally agree with these rules. This is a wonderfully relaxing retreat not a party hotel.

If you like daily animation doing aerobics in the pool, hustle and bustle, loud music, entertainment every night etc., this is not the place for you.
However, If you want a wonderfully chilled, peaceful, relaxing holiday retreat with fabulous Greek food, kind and friendly staff, lovely clean, comfortable rooms, with stunning views and a slower pace of life, then you must try here.

The hotel is nestled in to the side of the mountain and a bit like a small village. There are rooms and suites in 2 story buildings dotted along a central walkway, with paths leading to each front door and there are steps and slopes throughout the hotel, this is something to be seriously considered if you have mobility problems, as you have to walk everywhere.

There are plenty of areas to relax and sunbathe; Several pools on different levels of the resort and one is adults only, which is great and the views of the mountains, olive groves and the bay are lovely.

We went at the end of the season, there was a restaurant near one of the pools open for daytime snacks, and the main restaurant, which was open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, had plenty of choice, meat, fish, pasta, salads, fruit, cheese, cold meats etc. It was primarily Greek food and it was lovely. If you haven't experienced Greek food then yes it will be different from food you have had before, but try it, it's really good.

There is a lobby bar in the main building and another bar towards the bottom of the resort.
I don't drink shorts or cocktails and I wasn't a fan of the red wine but the white wine and beer were both great and I particularly liked the "to go" plastic glass concept, which allowed me to enjoy a drink on my beautiful balcony.

The staff are friendly and helpful and a tiny amount of the Greek language, tried with a smile, goes a very long way but most the staff speak English.

There is no entertainment to speak of as such. We had a Cretan dance show on Monday and Friday in the square but if you are looking for daily "animation" and shows every evening, then look elsewhere as you will not get it here.

Do your research before you come here. This is a fabulous place, if it is what you want and expect but it not right for everyone, we, however loved it.

Thank you Rimondi Grand Resort and Spa, for a fabulous holiday.

We stayed here over the October Half Term as a group of 6 adults the hotel with at low occupancy and unfortunately the weather wasn't the best, which highlighted the lack of amenities on site as well as the remoteness of the location from local shops and bars. The hotel is set out in Villa style and blocks are set into the site of a valley meaning it is quite hilly.

With 3 pools plus a mini kids pool I'd imagine its great when the sun is shining (unfortunately we only had one day of sun)

The beach is a 5 minute free shuttle ride and is private for hotel guests only.

There is an indoor pool and sauna for Spa users minimum cost 40 euros a treatment.

Local City of Rethymno worth a visit for shopping and sight seeing and local taverna's are great for eating

Positives;

The staff are friendly and helpful
Room and hotel cleanliness
Room Comfortable with Air Con and a good bed
Broadband Fast and great coverage all over

Could Improve on:

Food repetitive and could be hotter

All inclusive lacking during the day for snacks and no spirits served until 7pm so no G&T's etc, just beer and local wine and house cocktails and it stops at 10.30pm

We stayed here for a week and have got to write a review to let everyday people like us know what they will get if they book this hotel. First thing is it is a bit of a trek from the airport to the hotel but I’d happily do the travel time as the end result is fantastic. The staff are always on hand and are extremely professional and friendly from reception team restaurant team bar team and the housemaids kept the rooms and public areas spotless. The all inclusive drinks are varied with some available from 10:30 until 22:50,all local brands but all very pleasant. The views are outstanding and the pool and sunbathing areas are very well maintained. The meals are varied but there is always a good selection, delicious home made breads, pizzas, pasta dishes, some Greek specialities, beef, chicken, fish and fresh vegetables always available. We thoroughly enjoyed the lasagne, pizzas, chicken stew and the coffees are top quality. It was a fantastic hotel to spend a holiday in. If you are after some well deserved rest and relaxation then this is a top contender with the very well equipped spa on site too. If you are needing a special meal for a birthday etc the reception staff can book you a table at Romeo and juliets restaurant, €10 in a taxi and this will be an exceptional celebration meal at a surprisingly low price.

Firstly I'm not one for moaning but I have to tell people regarding our stay .
Half the spa is closed so not getting what we paid for .
Pool bar didn't open while 3pm which is a joke .
Spirits served after 7pm .
Then after 11pm you have to pay for your drinks .
Very limited staff so queues a joke for food and spend half HR trying to get your meals . There is very limited choice of food which is under cooked. The eggs have slime on the top. The bacon is like slime once again . Had a casserole one night which consisted of large fat balls of meat. Cold vegetables .
You cannot get your own food so a member of staff takes you to get each part of your meal . One person doing this which is a joke when 13 plus people are behind you .
On the day you leave if traveling at night they will cut your wrist band off at 11am so no more all inclusive that you have paid for !!!!! .
If you want to have your room for a few more hrs they charge you an extra 90 euros .
This hotel is not a 5 star hotel its never seen 5 star a possible 3 star.
We complained while we was there and with no enjoyment from the manager who just wants you money and runs .
Every other family we talked to were having the same experiences regarding food and quality and staff levels, bar opening times ect .
We even went and dined out for 3 nights of our 7 day stay as the food was disgusting .
Your room gets cleaned once in 7 days omg !! .
You have to put your wet towels outside your door and collect new ones after and take them to your room.
I understand the covid 19 reasons but for food not cooked bars not open .
Disgusting customer satisfaction for the money paid as not receiving what we paid for .
Shouldn't be advertising hotel and spa and taking your money if half a spa is closed .
If thinking of booking here please please think twice !!!!!!!!!! .

I am going to give an honest review as I do not want other people being disappointed like we were. Forewarned is better then at least you are prepared. The hotel is definitely not a 5 star. I have to agree with other reviewers and say it is a good 3 star and maybe once Covid is over Or they change owners, they will improve.
It is such a shame though because the grounds and facilities could easily be a 5 star but the staff and the owner let it down. They seemed to be using the Covid situation to save money; no cleaning, less staff and stripping back where ever possible. We stayed in a 4 star in Almyrida the week before and what a difference. Beautiful and varied food, no queuing insistently and the rooms were cleaned daily, all shower and toiletries changed daily and slippers and milk and water in the rooms. At the Rimondi you had to book your clean for once a week, no toiletries except for shower gel and soap (didn’t even have shower caps which I asked for). No milk or water in the rooms.Queuing for half an hour to get cold food and be insulted by the staff who actually tut at you. The waiter was using the same cloth to clean all the tables, no spray etc. And the hand sanitiser ran out allot. We then went on to stay in a 4 star in Heraklion and again what a difference and really showed us how cheap the Rimondi was being. We didn’t mind the alcohol times as not big drinkers and the cocktails past 7 were great once they put alcohol in them. As I said we stayed in 4 hotels and this was by far the worst. I really wanted the hotel to prove the reviews wrong but seriously, if you want 5 star ( and you do pay the 5star tourist tax) do not bother. If you want a 3 star remote , very pretty hotel , great swimming pools , great cocktails and really rude staff ( all except the barman in the sports bar Christoph?? He was lovely and professional ) and you do not mind paying 5 star prices then go here. It was such a shame.

A stay at this hotel is both unsafe and unhygienic.
Grounds are set in a very steep mountain side which makes difficulty in walking around. Elderly and less infirm would find this place not easy
Many many trip fall hazards along with a guests broken leg.. witnessed.
Food is beyond poor cold and always repetitive and tasteless.
All inclusive finishes at 10:50 and drinks are very weak and monitored.
Staff seem lovely on arrival but soon become tight lipped and rude.
Management style very authoritative.
To say this resort is a let down is beyond words.
Holiday companies selling this property should inspect and with draw it is not value for money or fit for purpose.
Check out Crete covid compliant stamp not shown in hotel and is not adhered to.
Rooms cleaned every 7 days so no waste from toilet bins and general waste no clean towels unless you request and no in house keeping. When asked told it was Greek government guidance but after doing some research it is a money saving scheme not a government directive.
After reading last few reviews it seems there are lot of things this hotel needs to work on and customer service and hygiene need to be improved.
Look elsewhere for your holiday Crete is a beautiful place and the local people helpful friendly and kind.
Nothing like this hotel.

* hotel is most definitely NOT a 5 star
* food was most often cold and inedible
* not enough staff to cope with demand
* opening times of the hotel bars suited the hotel and not its guests. The pool bar next to the restaurant opened at 3pm....when challenged, we were told, it’s for our own safety! So each time you wanted a soft drink even water, you had to queue in the restaurant for a drink.
* room cleaning did not happen, informed upon arrival that our room would only be cleaned once during our stay, with the poor sanitation of Greece, this was extremely unhygienic with used toilet paper staying in the bathroom bin for days at a time.
* paid for a junior suite and was offered very poor family room, with a single bed plus sofa pull out bed in the ‘lounge’ area. We were shown another room which was not much better. We was offered room with swim pool at an extra 50 euros per night, this had no view, at the edge of the complex, with no security barrier to the lane outside and was shaded by several tall conifer trees.
* for a fully inclusive break this is not what we wanted and resulted in us travelling 10kms to the nearest city on 3 occasions just to get decent hot food .
* one positive for us was that the weather was superb, which did include the lovely swimming pool next to the restaurant. This was an adults only pool however they let children use it throughout our stay.
* we are aware that these are trying and difficult times with COVID 19 and any advice that we would give is to go room only and visit the many bars and restaurants in the area who are delivering a fine selection of all food.

We booked here a few weeks back and stayed for 7 nights with friends beginning of August. We paid to upgrade to a pool room ,on arrival check in was fine and reception staff were friendly. Rooms were big and spacious with nice outside area and small pool ,the only downside to the pools you are overlooked from rooms above if the hotel is full .The hotel is set on a hill so there's a bit of walking to do getting to your rooms ,bar and restaurant and no buggy service. The food was ok something different most days but due to the covid you have to queue and be escorted around by a member of staff to choose your food ! There were 2 staff doing this so very slow so you don't really get to eat your meals together! They blame covid on everything but all they need is some more staff to speed it up as they still charge the same prices !! The rooms are cleaned once a week due to covid ! But clean towels when you need them.We had a spa package while there I think 4 days a massage each for my partner and myself which price was ok and very relaxing so worth a visit .The hotel is a taxi ride away from the city / old town and is £20 ,as there is only a small bar around the corner from the hotel and nothing else this was fine to visit .Drinks after 10.30 in the evening you have to pay for £9 for! a small G&T very expensive so take your wallet ! We travel worldwide 5-6 times a year to some high end destinations and to say this is 5 star and then have to pay for drinks is just a way of getting more money from you! But over all a nice place to visit so Enjoy and hopefully 2021 will be better for travelling!

This hotel is lovely, very clean and pleasant staff. Food in restaurant is plentiful and there is also a ‘snack bar’ by the lower pool serving delicious pizza, pasta and salad.
Our room was large, very clean with beautiful views. There is an unusual cleaning practice in place, where your room is only cleaned at your request via an online service on the hotel web site. Good hairdryer, air conditioning fridge, kettle & tea/coffee making stuff, very small safe all in room. There are 3 pools and a children’s pool, all are lovely and clean but very cold (could be the time of year).
The hotel is situated on an hillside and really not suitable for anyone with mobility issues. It is also very isolated, so nowhere nice or of interest to stroll to. We did walk to the beach a few times mainly to get some exercise but the beach wasn’t that great either. (I would recommend walking along the track which is accessed from the lower pools and then down alongside the new rooms they are currently being built, this then leads to a flat walk through the orange & olive groves until you reach the local school, turn right and you are back on the main road). The hotel does have a free shuttle bus to the beach, and another to Rethymno at a cost of €8 return. Would recommend this for both a daytime and evening outing. We also hired a car from reception at a cost of €59 all in for the day and did a trip to Chania and a lovely beach which again I would recommend.
There is no entertainment whatsoever put on by the hotel. There is music played on a loop round the two lower pools during the daytime and a music, pool tables and air hockey tables in the bar, but this seemed a bit like a youth club for grown ups on an evening, this hotel really needs to put on some form of entertainment, singer etc at least a few nights a week.

Upside
What a loverly Hotel in a lovely setting.
All the staff are absolutely 5 star very friendly and helpful, you couldn't ask for more.
Bus service to local town €8 return per person.
Free bus to the beach (can't comment on beach area as we didn't go)
Downside
When booking I was not made aware of different levels of all-inclusive. Blue band get more than clear band. Tour operators fault.
When we checked in at 01.30hrs the all-inclusive bar had closed and had to pay for food and drink. All-inclusive closes at 22.50hrs.
When we checked out at 11.00hrs we were ask to remove our bands and the would give us a voucher for lunch and dinner we had to pay for drinks. We were not being collected until 19.10hrs so I argued to keep our bands. Which they agreed to. (Only had 6 small beers tea and coffee and a glass of wine with dinner) so we did not take the Mickey)
The Hotel is quite remote and no paths that lead to the beach. They do have a free bus service to the beach.
Maid service has to be booked by the Web site. I don't expect my room to be cleaned every day but as you cannot put toilet paper down the toilet at the very least have all bathroom bins emptied. Even on a day we request maid service the didn't empty the bin.
No tavernas locally that we're open and very little to in the local area (local I mean walking)
