This was my fourth visit to this 6 star all inclusive resort since Aug. 2012. I keep going back because the location is exquisite, the staff are exceptional, the accommodations are lovely and the food is great.

There are no reservations at the specialty restaurants or the buffet. There is a French, Mexican, Asian, Continental and Grill. Only the buffet and Grill are open for lunch, but the quality of the food is excellent and varied. My daughter and granddaughter went in January 2014 and they almost always ate at the buffet because they liked it so much.

I had fish and/or seafood every day. There is a white fish that they prepare that is exquisite. I don't know how the chef manages to cook this for so many people and have it turn out perfect all the time. The white fish is rolled up and has a light white sauce...delicious. For those watching their waistline, there are always steamed fresh vegetables, fruit and salad. Of course, if you want to try something richer there's plenty to choose from. The afternoon before I left I had a hamburger from the buffet. It was outstanding.

I can go on and on about the great meals in the specialty restaurants and buffet because many of the dishes were really world class. Just to mention one though, let me tell you about the continental restaurant, the Cibu, On one occasion I had a wonderful grilled salmon dinner. On another occasion I had the chicken breast. Both were so tasty and succulent...done to perfection. I highly recommend the shrimp appetizer and either the seafood soup or the mushroom soup. Other things might be great as well, but in my two visits that's what I had.

Aside from the food, the grounds are gorgeous and the entire resort is kept impeccably clean. The staff will go out of their way for you and really make you feel special. They have contingency programs in case of rain, but whenever I have been there I've had great weather, so I don't know what they do. They do have riffle shooting, yoga, dance lessons, water exercises, and so much more. There is every age group and separate supervised activities for children. There is also entertainment,

The Sapphire has several bars and there is service on the beach as well. Also, there is a coffee bar off the main lounge area where you can get every kind of coffee drink imaginable. In the morning they have muffins and danish, in the afternoon sandwiches, and at night amazing pastries.

Finally, I need to tell you about the spa. You can get your nails or hair done, or you could have a facial, massage, body wrap, etc. I have only gone in for a massage and it was WONDERFUL. Be sure to come about an hour early if you schedule a massage. They have a pool which does a foot massage, a hot jetted pool, a cold jetted pool, a sauna and a steam room. But the most outstanding thing is the circuit is the pool that has special jets that massage every part of your body. This includes water falls that massage your neck and back, and a special pool bed that works on your whole body.

I'm planning to go back again this year and highly recommend it. A big thumbs up to all the staff who make this such a great vacation.

We traveled with a large group (9 people, including children) so this review is from the perspective of traveling with family and children.
OVERALL: The gross beach and the bad food are enough for me to not recommend this resort to anyone. We would never go back.
BEACH: Disgusting. The water was murky and overrun with seaweed. The seaweed washes up on the beach constantly. There are staff members raking up the seaweed and carting it off, then a big dump truck comes and hauls it away. They are losing the battle, however. The whole week I didn’t see a single person in the water because of this. I would never travel here again because we were not able to enjoy the beach at all. I can go to NJ and enjoy murky water.
POOL: Excellent and lots of fun for kids. The pool is huge and has lots of little nooks to explore. There are built-in chairs and waterfalls. The downside is trying to get a chair. People start leaving their belongings on chairs I think around 6am, then they leave and come back later. All of the chairs are taken by 8. The staff tries to enforce a rule that if you leave your belongings unattended for 30 minutes, they take your stuff to the lost and found, but I cannot say how strictly this is enforced. We rotated someone sitting in our chairs and never left our belongings unattended. There are 6 cabanas by the pool and if you want to get one of those, you have to line up at 5am to get one for the following day. I think that’s ridiculous.
RESTAURANTS: They are all closed from 5-6pm. At 5:30, people start lining up. If you have a large party, you either need to be in line or eat at 8pm. We were turned away from four restaurants on our first night, so we learned this the hard way. They do not take reservations, except for the hibachi place. The buffet is mediocre to poor, but you can always get in. They had a seafood night and I honestly couldn’t find one thing I wanted. Everything was either fish or general “seafood.” I ended up with the kids pasta. The Mexican restaurant was average. The Italian restaurant was mediocre. The desserts across the board were horrible. Lunch by the pool was good (burgers and hot dogs). The best food we had was the Bluewater Grill for lunch. The dinner there was terrible. Overall there was nothing that we absolutely loved and wanted to eat a second time.
SPA: My husband and I got a couples massage. We loved it. They have the 5 pools to visit before the treatment (sauna, steam, hot, cold, etc). Then you can relax with cucumbers. The staff were excellent and I would definitely recommend their services.
STAFF: Very friendly and attentive. There are hundreds of employees and you can see them everywhere you look. They are eager to help. We did not have a problem with anyone. I found it very odd that they have NO women servers, only men.
VIP STATUS: We booked our trip with the “preferred” status. This gives you better rooms, access to the VIP adults only pool (we walked by but we had kids, so we never swam there), access to the Italian restaurant, and a VIP lounge. The VIP lounge had pretty good snacks if you couldn’t find anything to eat (we went in there a lot). I didn’t know that you could check out there, so I initially went to the front desk. They tried to charge us $500 for the massage (price is $355). So I had to go to the VIP lounge to sort it out. The woman there couldn’t tell me why the front desk was overcharging me. Be careful when you check out, they may try to scam you out of some money!!
Waste of Resources: There is so much waste at this hotel. I don’t need 8 utensils every time I eat and three or four plates. The food waste is unbelievable. I think a lot of it comes from the food just being bad and no one wanting to eat it. They overdo everything to appear fancy, but they are really just wasting dishes, food, and water.
Like I said above, I would not recommend this hotel. The property is beautiful, but the food and the beach are terrible.

6th time at this resort wrote a review Dec 2017

Just returned from a 5 day 4 night quick trip to Paradise! Stayed November 27th through December 1st. The Now Sapphire continues impress us each and every time we return. Absolutely no complaints. No Bugs, Great weather, The forecast had rain scheduled for everyday we were there and it did rain.....10 and 15 minutes showers in the early mornings. Warm rain that greened things up even more that it already is, washed off the walk ways, and made things smell fresh and clean, even made the flowers smell absolutely wonderful as we strolled around the resort. The rest of the days were bright, sunshine everywhere, warm (not to hot) and absolutely great tanning/layout weather. If the forecast calls for rain, do not let that discourage you, it only lasts for a little while and the rest of the days are paradise.
Staff: The best, friendliest most helpful staff I have ever encountered. All of the staff need pats on the back, In particular, Gustavo who help translate the Tamascal (explain Later) Louis, Paula, CICI, Cesar at the sand Bar, and all of the Bell/ baggage folks. The entire Preferred club staff, All deserve extra credit.
The bars, The staff at the Sand/Swing Bar especially Cesar and all of the hard working folks who walk up and down the sand beach are fantastic.
The Spa; Sergio is the best. He has been there each and every time we have gone down and he remembers us and is very polite and helpful. Preferred members are allowed to use the Hydro Therapy once a day for free, Make your reservations when you show up and take advantage of it. Showers, Sauna, Steam Room, Hot and Cold whirlpool, Warm lap pool with water jets, all are available for free. We usually scheduled our time in the late afternoon before supper time. Great way to relax, wash off all the lotion, sweat out some of the refreshments and get cleaned up and ready for dinner.
If there is a down side to the spa it would have to be the cost of the massages. Back home the cost is about 1/3rd of what they charge. you can get the same massage on the beach and save $100.00 but you won't get the atmosphere, it would be a huge help to the service if they could adjust the cost down a little bit. (The coupons are useless)
New to our trip this year was the Temascal. This is a Native American "Sweat Lodge" religious ceremony that was absolutely fantastic. It was about 45 minutes long, you sit in a brick Igloo and listen to the ritual while they Igloo is filled with hot rocks, steam and smoke. (Gets real hot, can be kinda smokey if you have allergies, and is some what chlostrophobic) This was a very moving, healing, and interesting experience. I would highly recommend it if you can handle the atmosphere. Gustavo from the entertainment team will accompany you and does a really good job of translating the songs, the music and the native language as the Natives do not speak english.
Facilities: Rooms are still the best. The most comfortable beds I have ever slept on. If you need something, just ask and it will be delivered immediately.
Food is always the best. They have added Gluten Free, Vegetarian, and some sugar free options to all of the menus and every restaurant will ask if you have any food allergies before you enter.
Travel Tips: You won't need half of what you think you will need, Leave it at home. Pack nice clothes, long pants/skirts for supper. You will only need on maybe two sets. you only wear them for supper and you can re-wear them the next night. Nobody will notice or care. (Keeps the baggage lighter).
When you take off your dirty clothes, lay them flat on the floor rather that throwing them in a pile, when you get ready to pack, the clothes are ready to just lay in the suit cases, saves time!.
Bring one or two "Febreeze" Car plug in air fresheners, clip them to the A.C. vents in your room, takes away any musty smell.
Purchase a good pair of "Sketchers" casual slip on shoes. They look nice for dress wear, they are very comfortable, we walked for several miles in them right out of the box and they worked great, and they work perfectly for the planes and airports.
Finally, we are "Tip People". It was never asked for, never suggested, and made no difference if you did or did not, (it is all inclusive), but the service that you receive and the work that these people do for you is well deserving of some extra appreciation. We usually take $100.00 in ones.
There are numerous outside trips you can schedule from the resort, I only did a 4 hour deep sea fishing trip, had the whole boat to myself, the other 3 people cancelled, only cost my share...It was a blast, The folks at Marina Del Cid do a wonderful job.
This resort is SUPER Kid friendly. They are all set up for little ones in strollers all the way up to young teens. It was a real joy watching families spend quality time together. There is also an adults only area for Mom and Dad to get away for some alone time.
We have been here 3 times now and will be coming back numerous times more! We are looking forward to bringing our "Great Kids" with us next time.
Enjoy!!!

This resort is definitely consistent with the reviews and I was meaning to leave a review, considering it was our choice of destination wedding and honeymoon.

We traveled there from 10/4 to 10/13 along with 40 of our closest family and friends to get married at the resort. We worked with Ramon as our wedding coordinator, who was fairly on top of things and would reply via email within 3-5 days of emails. He did a great job and made things go smoothly. We met with Ramon several times before the wedding to make sure things were in order.

The day of our wedding we both went through the hydrotherapy circuit (dry sauna, wet sauna, hot Jacuzzi, cold Jacuzzi) which is included for preferred, which was very relaxing, as we could take some time together before the ceremony. I had my hair and makeup done at the resort and feel that they did a wonderful job with the style I had brought pictures to copy. After getting ready in my room, Ramon provided our flowers and had a golf cart to take me to the location of the ceremony (wasn't far from our room).

We had our wedding on the beach (about 200 feet from our beach front room) with white chairs and used the flower centerpieces from our reception to decorate the aisle. The musician was great (played Glasgow love theme down the aisle and Somewhere Over the Rainbow back up the aisle) and we also really enjoyed our minister, as we had not gotten to meet her. We wrote our own vows and she had a great message about love, while keeping God included but not overbearing. We met with Ramon several times before the wedding to make sure things were in order. We picked local flowers in tropical colors, which turned out beautiful. The nice thing about the beach is that simple can still be quite beautiful. The photographer spent about 45 mins with us after the ceremony (while everyone else was having cocktails and hors devours prior reception) and had our wedding album ready in about 2 days to take with us! We ordered 2, since $60 each was quite reasonable. You also get the photos on a memory stick you you can take them and make your own album if needed. I feel like between their photographer and our family cameras, it was plenty of coverage.

The reception also turned out well. We had the private adult pool all to ourselves, along with a DJ, cake, bar, and 3 course meal. We had planned to have fairy lights for our décor, but as it was a chance of rain, things had to change. The only thing I do not agree with as a business practice, is their policy on lights. If there's a chance it rains and it does rain, then the vendor putting up the lights can cease and basically take off with your money, no refunds. They state safety is the reason, but $1200 is a lot to lose if someone decides it's raining and they don't want to put them up. We opted for the dance floor instead, which kept the party going until we had to shut it down. In the end I feel the dance floor was the better decision, though the ambience was a little rough until dinner was over. The food was good (filet with pepper sauce). The vanilla cake was pretty but was leaning. I feel it was not very good, but it really wasn't the focus of the evening, other than the cake cutting. I'd advise folks to have a smaller cake, as dinner also came with a dessert option. Having an unlimited bar option in the package was great, as nobody has to micromanage a budget. I also felt the DJ's did an excellent job, considering they don't know us and we've never met them before. We had provided a list of some music we like but they decided from there what to do, and they pegged us perfectly with some 90's R&B dance music.

This resort also decorated our room with rose petals, chocolate covered strawberries and champagne in our room when we got back from the reception (I know most of this stuff is included in the package you pick but is always nice when they deliver). They also included a nice little breakfast in bed and couple's massage in our package.

The resort is the perfect size, as it's just large enough to go do what you want and just small enough to find folks if you want to. The food at the grill and buffet were just ok, but the food at the nicer restaurants (Mexican, French and thai) were a lot better. I think the French was my favorite, and they shut it down for our rehearsal dinner, since it was supposed to rain so we did not get a patio spot as planned. There was often music playing in the lobby, entertainment through fire shows at the pool, karaoke and variety shows, and other somewhat cheesy but fun entertainment. There were also masseuses in the main lobby and servers walking around with cocktails on occasion. The pool was definitely a fun place to hang out, and we had a cabana by the pool almost every day. The pool bartenders and servers were amazing, so much so that we memorized many names, including Juan and Carlos. There is 24 hour room service, which we ordered from almost every night. I felt our beach front room was clean and well taken care of. I can complain about the water (obviously don't drink the water) smelling like sewer, even from the showers. The hydro spa didn't seem to be affected by it much. That is a problem in all resorts, I'm sure. The guys on our trip also went on a local fishing tour from vendors on the beach, and had a pretty good time. They came back to get the ladies and took everyone to a local restaurant where they cooked up the catch and had the best shrimp cocktail of my life.

All in all, if you are fairly flexible about details and don't mind having a little less control over things, this was absolutely the best way to have a wedding, and I have no regrets. Between Ramon and my travel agent (Mina Nguyen from Blissful Honeymoons), everything was taken care of and coordinated and I didn't have to lift a finger away from my computer. We had a wedding for 40, live music, decor, reception + bar, giant floral centerpieces, flowers, hair, makeup, 3 course dinner, cake, DJ, light up dance floor, photographer + album, and much much more included for approx. 10k, which we would never have pulled off in the U.S.

Also, using Mina (from Blissful Honeymoons) hooked us up with basically a free honeymoon (every 7 nights booked by guests = 1 night free for couple), which also was a BIG benefit to us. She set us up with a limo to/from the resort, and the transportation service was very reliable for us. I also believe we got our flights for free, due to the number of guests we brought and nights we stayed. It was honestly just wonderful to have everything organized for us. What a great memory!

We definitely intend to go back for our 1 year Anniversary in October. I'd highly recommend planning your wedding and/or honeymoon at this resort, because I think they genuinely enjoy their work and care that you are spoiled the whole time.

Magnificent – that is how I’d describe Now Sapphire. Above my expectations – and they were high.
Twenty members of our family just enjoyed the NOW Sapphire resort, arriving on Sunday, June 9, departing June 16. The weather was very hot – but we are the ones to blame for that – as this was the only time we could all get together as a family.
The hotel was above and beyond our hopes and dreams. The beauty of the pools (fresh water not salt), bridges (that also provided welcome shade in the main pool), the open air lounge areas, the beach – all were magnificent, clean and well maintained.
Some of the reviews we had read on here really had me nervous about taking our entire family to this resort. Our worries were completely unfounded and those of you who have not had a good time at this resort or found problems – I just can’t imagine what you must want. I travel a lot. And have stayed at many resorts and hotels and this is above and beyond all.
The staff were exceptional. We felt like they soon knew us and treated us like family – calling many of us by name. One of our older family members even had a waiter come up to her in town, recognize her and coo over her – which made her feel quite special.
The entertainment staff were wonderful – throughout the day they had energy happening in the pool area – and went around and invited everyone to join in as well as letting you know what would be happening in the evening. We loved Marion, Freddie and Juan – who went above and beyond to make our family welcomed and pampered.

Our granddaughter went scuba diving for the first time while in Cancun and had a video provided to her. Since we had family members from five states – we knew most wouldn’t have the opportunity to see it – so Freddie coordinated us to be able to use the TV system in the Eclipse one afternoon so we could view her underwater experience.
In March my husband and I vacationed Barcelo in Los Cabos and often said if this place (Sapphire) would be half as nice, we would be thrilled. We can pleasantly report that we do feel that the quality of the Now Sapphire was much nicer – we loved the pools (warm at Now Sapphire – freezing at Barcelo), and the ONLY thing in comparison that was better at Barcelo was their professional evening entertainment. Now Sapphire lacked that higher standard of evening entertainment.
The Now Sapphire entertainment staff did a fine job of getting resort vacationers involved in the evening karaoke, marriage game and other evening activities. We had a few “stars” in those events and that made it fun for all of us.
As for our rooms. We had requested ground floors for two of our eight rooms, and ended up with a couple additional ground floor rooms. (That was fine for us). There are no elevators at this resort – which means if you don’t or can’t do stairs well – be sure to request ground floor. The rooms were serviced at least twice a day for complete make up (bed and replenishing towels), and at least one additional time for water and room fridge beverages. The little bottles of liquor that were in the room upon arrival were never replenished – but there was plenty of drinks available out of the room – and we never wanted for anything. 24-hour room service was available, and was exactly delivered at the time promised when ordering and tray pick up was pretty quick (because the equanas and cats would make short order of tray ruminants).
We had “preferred upgrade” for two of our rooms. This allowed needed internet access for one of our family members to still take tests and do classroom work, as she is in college. We learned that the Preferred access to the Lounge had Bud and Bud Light, which some of our guys prefer over the Corona and Model (or something like that). The preferred lounge was air conditioned – and a nice place to go to check your email or print your boarding passes. We also utilized the computer in there to pull together all of our families photos onto one flash drive – so that they could all be uploaded when we got home to all family members. Ivon in this area was very snippy – and one morning, when he didn’t receive a tip he anticipated the night before (because one of the family members didn’t get back there to give him evening tip), the next morning he mentioned it. Seriously. Guess that backfired on him – as that meant no more tips for him, period.
Tips were supposed to be included – but we felt that some of our servers and service were quite great and rewarded them – which seemed to be quite welcomed, but not expected by most. Some of the hotel guests were quite obnoxious with the way they would splash their money and stick it up on the posts at the swim up bar to get attention to themselves. Most of the bartenders at the swim up bar or others were very good about keeping track of who should be next to be served.

Carlos in the round bar in the lounge area (where there are lots of couches and chairs and a great place to meet up with friends during the day or evening) was a fabulous attentive bartender. Thank-you Carlos for all you did for our family to make our stay so enjoyable.

As for Preferred status – it did get you air conditioned restaurant seating, If you chose to use these restaurants. That said – we felt that the Market Place (buffet) and Blue Water Grill became the two places we used most. Seating at the specialty restaurants for large groups is impossible – and even breaking our large group up into 6 or 8, still found very long waits. There are no reservations or assigned seating times. I think if you were a couple or four in a group you probably wouldn’t have too long of a wait – and if you did – it just makes more time for “happy hour”. Alejandro in the Blue Water Grill became our waiter of choice – the man is amazing. I don’t think I’ve ever had a waiter that was as good – anywhere!

The food was okay. Nothing spectacular. The buffet was nice. Omelets and eggs made to order, the hibachi night in Market Place was very nice, I wasn't thrilled with Mexican food offerings (but then again, we aren't Mexican - but I do like Taco Bell haha), hardly any vegetables - but LOTS of wonderful fruit. Delicious orange juice in the mornings, and GREAT coffee in the mornings.
We liked their rendition of Shrimp Cocktail in Blue Water Grill - which was more of a shrimp soup - lots of nice deveined shrimp, in a bowl served with something like a tomato cilantro salsa. Very interesting. We also found that the quesadillas and club sandwiches were enjoyed and quickly served. Pork chop on the evening meal seemed to be all of our selected favorite. Real "chunky" mashed potatoes and fresh broccoli and asparagus were nicely done.
The Preferred pool also became a hide-a-way oasis in the middle of the night a couple time when it was just too hot to function (especially the night we came back from 120 degree day at chichen itza.) The white clothed guards kept an eye on things and I think since they knew we were just getting cooled off and talking, and not antics, they really just let us all enjoy the water and conversation). (Thank-you!!)
Kudos to the pastry chef(s) at this resort -- the desserts everywhere were fun and delicious. The cream puff swans, to the layer mini cakes, the crystallized candies and chocolate curls adorning each morsel – you could tell they enjoyed their job and did it well.
The main pool was incredible. I loved that there were steps to go in and out of the pool area in several places – in both the main and preferred pools. The water was warm – and the swim up bar was great. (The only waitstaff that I did not find to be attentive at this entire resort was Angel – whom in my opinion, needs to be removed.)
A delightful surprise was the kayak that paddled through the pool one afternoon loaded with fruit on a stick for those in the pool to swim up to and enjoy. What fun – and this made for great pictures.
The morning coffee throughout the resort restaurants was great. So many times, on cruise ships or resorts, the coffee is very strong. I heard several people mentioning how pleased they were with the coffee. However, in the afternoon or evening, coffee in these same restaurants made you fresh coffee – but used the espresso machine to do so – (I asked to find out why the difference). After trying twice in evening and afternoon to get a good cup of coffee, I gave up in the restaurants. However, I quickly learned that CoCo Café off the lobby had wonderful coffee all the time (as well as frozen coffee and other coffee drinks) and desserts/pastries. (Free, of course). This became a favorite place for my husband to get a cookie or two and in the mornings when the family went on excursions – you could grab a cup to go and a danish – it was open early.
One of our family couples celebrated their anniversary – and were greeted with “anniversary banners” on their door and a bottle of Champagne and fruit in their rooms. Another who celebrated a birthday had the same treatment. This was a nice touch that we were unaware of prior to going.
There were several weddings at the resort while we were there. The resort seemed to do a very nice job, making those events special for those involved and their families.
The flooring throughout the facility is marble. This can become quite slippery when wet – thus in our bathroom, we used extra towels on the floor – which were plentiful.
The bathrooms tub/shower were pretty to look at – but the first time you went to try to get in – you realized you either needed to be quite limber, in good shape and tall. We were glad to find several handle bars to grip when getting in and out. The hotel quickly changed one of our rooms to a handicapped room, when it was realized that this tub would be impossible to use for one of the family members.
The Mexican evening was fun – and the finger painter that was set up in the lobby mesmerized many, as he did magic with paint on glass – and then offered the beautiful landscapes or Chichen Itza – and then sold them for only $20, packaged in a protective case to keep them from smearing to get them home. This had to be one of the best “souvenirs”.
Also for sale in the lobby, all the time, was a cigar stand. The guys enjoyed trying the selection. I was surprised that smoking seemed to be everywhere – but there were ashtrays available for those that did partake – and the permanent ashtrays around the resort were quickly cleaned, and the seashell logo restamped in the sand. I was pleased with the cleanliness and attentiveness of the staff to pick up stray glasses and discarded items quickly and efficiently.
The spa was great. I think I enjoyed the “non-service area” where you could just go between the hot and cold areas, pools, sauna, steam room, etc. even more than the Swedish massage. But it was all great and glad we had the $40 off coupon to use, which brought the service down to just ½ again more than we pay at home for the same massage – but we had the experience and use of the entire facility for the added one hour. (Difference between this and Barcelo resort – was that if you had any spa service scheduled, you could use the pools, sauna and steam room as long as you wanted on the day of service. Although I liked that at Now Sapphire, there was a very nice guy who guided us through the proper procedure – where at Barcelo you just followed the instructions posted on the wall.)
As a final note, we utilized Best Day for our Travel/Contact through our local travel agent – and will have to say that we were disappointed that on two different occasions Best Day misquoted tours and availability. We finally learned not to rely on their service and used other vendors that were on the premises.
For those of you considering a get-a-way definitely look at NOW Sapphire. We were happy and we would happily go back. !

Dear MercuryVi., Thank you for contacting us. It will be a pleasure to welcome you soon! The Now Spa by Pevonia is not part of the all inclusive, however there is spa day, where you enjoy the hydrotherapy circuit (sauna, steam, jacuzzis). We hope this information is helpful.
