Well, to quote the article "Why haven't you updated your legal documents?'. The suggested reason is cost, but that is the same for everyone, and in any case she could apply for the free voter id. So no excuse really.

I just want to snap at her the same words my mum did when I was fannying about getting changed at the beach:

Except that would probably make her feel extremely unsafe.

I wouldn't support the return of the death penalty generally but I make an exception for that.

Flipping hell. Just apply for the free voters ID and get on with it.

I changed my name by deed poll. Annoyingly I can't change it on the electoral register without photo ID. So I applied for my free voters ID in my old name. Hardly newsworthy.

I blame hollyoakes. They should have included the admin around name changing in an episode.

How are they supposed to know about voting id otherwise. Its hardly advertised.

I had my second lightbulb moment when I discovered the term non-binary randomly on Instagram.
Instantly, I knew this identity was mine

This is really bizarre to me as someone who isn't obsessed with my 'identity'. I just am, I am me. Not any less or more important than anyone else.

Scared? what does she think's going to happen, apart from 'sorry, no ID you can't vote'? she gets dragged off for interrogation as to why she doesn't have ID?

I don't understand Dee being scared.

Either they will let Dee vote or they won't let Dee vote. The first needs "Thank you", the second needs "Oh, sorry, my fault for not sorting it out."

Believe me, nobody will think Dee is special, and I am sure Dee will get safely away and back home. Dee will not be in any actual danger at any point.

Oh gosh, no. I expect the person was all for it.

I expect the newspaper think they're being wonderful allies.

I just don't think stuff like this garners the sympathy that they hope for. Person could well be cringing self inside out in a few years at this.

I'd just take the deedpole doc and my photo I.D. I seriously doubt the people taking details and handing the papers out care beyond making sure the person who should be voting votes. It's not like they're going to make a big song and dance about having to check a second document.

I suspect she’ll be very disappointed if no-one notices or questions her, rather than scared if they do.
