Drawing from 40 projects and 3 collaborative tables, Ivy Oandasan, Ivy Bourgeault, and colleagues are now wrapping up their work by sharing lessons learned and tools related to educational reform that catalyzes and enables practice reform. Both patient experiences and outcomes matter, but new research finds that Europeans tend to value outcomes (PROMs) more. Interestingly, this was particularly true for older patients. Link to the article: https://lnkd.in/ersim5E9

20 years ago this month, the Canadian Adverse Events Study was published, showing that adverse events occurred in 7.5% of medical/surgical hospitalizations. More than one-third (36%) were judged highly preventable. With the latest CIHI data showing that hospital harm rose with the pandemic, refocusing on patient safety is more important than ever. Translating Research in Elder Care (TREC) brings together citizens, researchers, knowledge users, and policy makers to produce knowledge that improves care with and for older adults - like the Breathing Toolkit described below. It's been great to join this year's annual gathering to learn more about TREC's work, catch up with partners, and connect with folks around the world who share similar aims.

Sometimes it feels like there’s a giant global experiment on the impact of fully remote, hybrid, and in-office work underway. Large studies like this one are beginning to roll in, providing much-needed evidence on not just the effects of working from home for different groups but also design features that influence results. I found the equity implications particularly interesting.

Patients know. By diving beneath the surface to explore how patients acquire knowledge and the types of knowledge they have, Vincent Dumez and Audrey L'Espérance's new article offers opportunities for deeper reflection and action. I particularly appreciated their perspective that "recognition of patient knowledge and its nature allows both individuals and institutions to account for the important influence of this knowledge on health, on care and service relationships, and on the creation of value in the health and social services system."
