Somare Specialist Hospital. This initiative aims to broaden ESPHA's reach and impact by establishing collaborative efforts with key entities such as the PNG National Airport Corporation (NAC), Air Niugini, and Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF). In a recent gathering in Wewak, Mr. Mathew Kaluvia, the CEO of ESPHA, discussed the Authority's communication objectives and outlined its long-term partnership aspirations with NAC and the airlines. Emphasizing the significance of conveying essential information and knowledge through fruitful engagements in public spaces like airports to effectively engage with a larger audience. Recognizing the growing need for necessary healthcare information in the region, ESPHA is dedicated to improving its visibility by efficiently disseminating critical updates, awareness campaigns, and information about the Specialist hospital's services to its stakeholders and the public. The collaborations with NAC and the airline companies will facilitate ESPHA in showcasing and communicating this vital information through various mediums at respective airport hubs. In addition, ESPHA has also discussed the national and local distribution of medical supplies with airlines and NAC through mutual agreements and collaboration. MAF has been acknowledged for its delivery services in hard-to-reach areas of the province and the country, and Air Niugini for the timely delivery of supplies to ESPHA. Provincial and territorial governments are essential partners in ensuring healthcare systems serve the needs of children and youth, their families and caregivers, and the children’s healthcare workforce. Three key actions they can take to build a brighter, healthier future for generations to come include: 1) Use Canada Health Transfer funding to enhance capacity across the continuum of care, 2) Collaborate with the federal government to implement a National Children’s Strategy with measurable targets, and 3) Establish virtual care guidelines and compensation models to make sure children in remote and rural regions have access to proper care. The state of health care systems has become ever more important to federal-provincial relations in Canada.  Although the 2023 federal-provincial agreement on health care transfers promised more federal investment in provincial health care systems, survey data shows that Canadians hold both federal and provincial governments responsible for the state of health care. As Ally Hays-Alberstat (McGill University) and Olivier Jacques (Université de Montréal) explain in this new Centre of Excellence on the Canadian Federation research bulletin, this means that both orders of government have work to do.

Healthcare in Canada is changing. There are three companies that are pioneering major advancements in patient care. WELL Health Technologies Corp. (TSX: WELL) who are expanding successfully across the country implementing efficient labour management strategies backed by advanced proprietary technology. Santé Québec announces the appointment of 13 expert members of the board to reform health care in Québec. Has health care ever been in a shortage of experts? Every silo in health care is overflowing with expertise. It's literally drowning in it. If there was a proposed re-evolution of health care, I could never imagine "let's find some experts" as a plausible remedy. That would be like trying to make water less wet with a hose. Health care doesn't have an experts problem, it has a sensemaking problem - it doesn't yet know what it doesn't know. Experts can have notable blind spots that conceal what they haven't yet seen. If we want to get unwet, we need to step out of the pool of our current ways of knowing. This will be the most difficult hurdle health care faces in the coming decades. I hope this group of experts has the courage to leap over themselves. This will be their greatest act of service.

The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) presented it’s Interoperability Initiative at the Canadian Public Health Association’s Public Health 2024 conference. #PHSP24 Interoperability is the capacity for seamless sharing of health data and information between health sector stakeholders by means of policy, governance, workflow and technical alignment. This specific initiative looks at advancing the interoperability of surveillance systems at PHAC. With increased interoperability, systems will become more resilient during public health responses and be able to better withstand evolving public health needs, staff turnover and operational changes. The Nova Scotia Health Innovation Hub, the Dartmouth General Hospital, The Orchid Gala and the Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation are reimagining pelvic health care through the creation of a Pelvic Health Suite, which aims to revolutionize pelvic health care for Nova Scotians. Together, we are creating a novel model of care in a purpose-built space for outpatient gynecological and urological procedures, allowing them to be moved out of the operating room and endoscopy suites. The goal of the Pelvic Health Suite is to reduce wait times, provide more rapid access to diagnostics or therapies and improve patient experience and outcomes.        To make this happen we’re launching our first innovation challenge! Alika Lafontaine Western medical systems are confronting decades of maintaining health systems not meeting the needs of #AgingPopulations, people #LivingLonger, shifts from acute to #chronic illnesses, and unwillingness to change and adapt the way treatment and care are delivered. Canada is not alone. Same discussions in UK, US, #Australia. Incremental changes over decades of tampering at the edges has created more work-arounds, that have embeded huge complexities, that most can no longer #navigate. The problems are known - they’ve been researched to death since the 1970s. The solutions are there. Patients are core. For all the talk of #PatientCentredCare, patient voices remain on the sidelines - excluded and absent from the #leadership and #DecisionMaking - while those tasked to lead remain #stuck, #frozen. #IfNotNow, #when?

Sepsis is responsible for 1 in 20 deaths in Canada, underscoring the urgent need for a comprehensive national approach. Canada has yet to fulfill its commitment despite being a signatory to the WHO's resolution on sepsis.
