Today, Freepoint Eco-Systems International and BİOTREND Çevre ve Enerji Yatırımları A.Ş. announced their potential partnership to expand their impact on plastic recycling. Together, we aim to recycle 250,000 tons of waste plastic annually through projects in Turkey, the Balkans, and Central Asia. The partnership combines: 🌐 Freepoint Eco-Systems' focus on building, owning, and operating large-scale advanced recycling facilities, including its flagship facility in Ohio, USA. Upon completion in 2024, it is projected to be one of the world's largest advanced recycling facilities, with 90,000 tons of waste plastic recycled per year. 🍃 Biotrend's expertise and strong track record of operating integrated solutions for municipal solid waste in Turkey, including the ongoing development of a recycling facility in Turkey with a processing capacity of 60,000 tons per year. Oscar M. The US Plastics Pact revealed its Roadmap 2.0, a strategic plan to help companies reduce plastic packaging waste. The pact sets several targets aimed at improving packaging sustainability by 2030, including reducing virgin plastic use, improving design for recyclability, and increasing recycling rates. Consumer demand for recycled packaging is on the rise. A new global report from Smithers estimates the annual global market for food-grade post consumer recycled (PCR) plastic resins will expand to nearly 6.7 million metric tons by 2029, with Asia driving the highest growth rates. Did you know that the average EU citizen discards more than 190kg (419 lbs) of wrappers, boxes, bottles, cartons and cans each year? The European Parliament recently passed new regulations on plastic packaging and waste in member states. The legislation sets binding targets for reuse, collection and recycling of packaging materials and mandates that all packaging be fully recyclable by 2030. While packaging from shipping makes up more than a quarter of all municipal solid waste in the U.S., some traditional recycling methods are unable to process certain kinds of plastic waste commonly found in our packages. Overall, traditional recycling is capable of recycling around 20% of all plastic waste generated annually. Freepoint Eco-Systems, along with other advanced recycling facilities, can recycle over 80% of the remaining waste.
