In just two decades, the global annual #production of #plasticwaste has doubled from 180 million tonnes to more than 350 million tonnes, according to the OECD's Global Plastics Outlook report. Meanwhile, #plastic waste is expected to nearly triple worldwide by 2060, with half of all waste expected to be in #landfill while less than one-fifth of it is #recycled. In recent years, growing awareness around the extent and dangers of #plasticpollution has paved the way for greater #policy intervention. As Euronews reported last year, more than 100 countries have already either fully or partially #banned #singleuseplastic bags. At the same time, many are also banning other types of #disposable items, such as #cutlery and drinks mixing sticks. Given that #packaging accounts for almost 40 percent of the total weight of plastic waste generated #worldwide, its reduction and recycling is a priority in the fight against plastic pollution. In a 2022 Ipsos survey of more than 23,000 respondents, 70 percent of people surveyed in 34 countries around the world agreed that there should be international standards banning single-use plastics. https://lnkd.in/gQp_Un_k

The global energy transition is not a war between fossil-based systems of energy and renewable-green energy sources, It is a unifying effort to preserve the life of our earths valuable resources. Stop trying to win and ask yourself, what can I do to help?

🚀🌱 "𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲?" - 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗻 The question may sound strange. But promoting a circular economy can significantly reduce environmental impacts and strengthen our economy. Let's discover why #recycling plastic waste is important. 🌍 The challenge: energy imports and product exports Germany's chemical industry imports a large amount of fossil resources. At the same time, it is one of the largest exporters of chemicals and plastics, with a market share of 11%. As a result, much more plastic is consumed in Germany than waste is generated. This is due to the large export-oriented industry of final plastic products. Feeding more waste back to the system enables the recovery of valuable raw materials and reduces the gap between demand and feedstock availability. 🔄 The key: plastics recycling as a low-emission pathway. Plastic packaging accounts for 27 percent of consumption in Germany. It generates 59 percent of plastic waste. Recycling turns waste into a valuable resource and reduces harmful emissions from waste incineration. 🌿 The advantages: sustainability and resource efficiency Plastic recycling reduces emissions and lowers the need for fossil-based raw materials. Using plastic waste as a local resource can replace fossil imports with regional value creation and reduce our dependence on raw materials from other countries. 💡 The future: regulation or consumers The current regulation does not incentivize the full potential of recycling. But there is hope as the German government develops measures to promote plastic recycling. Furthermore, strong consumer demand is driving the need for more recycled products. Let's stop thinking of garbage and consider plastic waste a valuable resource for a better future. What do you think? #circulareconomy #sustainability #recycling #netzero #chemicalindustry

#plastic Thursday post alert. So the EU has now banned the export of plastic waste to developing countries as well as inside the EU. The recycling industry has said that this could destroy them, but in my mind I think they have just been caught out. If they are supposed to be recycling the products , why is there a need to then send the plastic abroad to sit in plastic graveyards never to be touched again? It is a reminder that the recycling system is not fit for purpose, and it is smokescreen set up to make money and allay the publics fears. The "circular economy" is a misnomer when it comes to plastic. Recycling when possible is a great idea , but no plastic can be recycled forever, and will always have an end of life issue. With BDP® - we have a ground-breaking Plastic Organic Ingredient that holds the potential to transform the plastic manufacturing industry. It is crucial to emphasize that our organic ingredient is fundamentally different, and it is not an oxo-degradable additive, and our technology ensures zero microplastics. It can be added at the initial manufacturing process, but also during the recycling process to make sure when the plastic can't be recycled any further and eventually ends up in landfill, or the soil or tragically in the ocean it it will be consumed by nature to leave nothing at all. In fact the clever recycling and waste management industry could actually harness the biogas and compost that will result form the decomposing plastic to help the environment. 📈 New research has found that a staggering 220 million tonnes of plastic waste is set to be generated in 2024, marking a 7.11% increase since 2021. 🌍 The latest study by EA - Earth Action revealed that more than a third of plastic waste will be improperly handled at the end of its lifecycle. This equates to 68.6 million tonnes of plastic, translating to an average of 28kg of plastic waste per person worldwide. Learn more on FoodBev Media 👇 #PlasticWaste #Sustainability

Top 20 Countries by Plastic Waste per Capita Single-use plastic waste is perhaps one of the biggest environmental issues of our time. Every year, millions of tons of plastic end up in oceans and landfills, harming wildlife and ecosystems. To make matters worse, plastics take hundreds of years to decompose, leading to long-term environmental and health hazards as they break down into microplastics that contaminate water and food sources. In this graphic, visual capitalist visualized the top 20 countries that generated the most single-use plastic waste per capita in 2019, measured in kilograms per person. Figures come from research published in May 2021, which were sourced from Statista. https://lnkd.in/e4dSFzQf

The World Is Flooded With Plastic Waste The global annual production of plastic waste has surged from 180 million tonnes to nearly 400 million tonnes over the past two decades, and it is projected to nearly triple by 2060, according to the OECD's Global Plastics Outlook report. Despite growing awareness and policy interventions such as bans on single-use plastic bags in over 100 countries, less than one-fifth of plastic waste is currently recycled, with the majority ending up in landfills. Packaging, which accounts for almost 40% of the total plastic waste, remains a key target for reduction and recycling efforts. Most of the #plastic we make ends up as waste. As plastic manufacturers increase production, more and more of it will end up in our #landfills, #rivers, and #oceans. Plastic waste is set to triple by 2060. #PlasticWaste There is a direct relationship between #PlasticProduction and #PlasticPollution. Read more about the latest data: https://lnkd.in/gVE7ha46

According to the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO), only 9% of plastic waste is recycled in Australia, with a significant portion ending up as microplastics in our environment. Initiatives such as the Australian Government’s restriction on single-use plastic bags have had some positive effects, influencing consumer perceptions and prompting businesses to explore alternatives to conventional plastics, such as degradable, biodegradable, and compostable bags and packaging. By understanding the nuances between these types of plastics and supporting initiatives for improved waste management, businesses can make more informed choices for a sustainable future. #plasticwaste #wastemanagement #degradable https://hubs.ly/Q02w6ly90
