While packaging from shipping makes up more than a quarter of all municipal solid waste in the U.S., some traditional recycling methods are unable to process certain kinds of plastic waste commonly found in our packages. Overall, traditional recycling is capable of recycling around 20% of all plastic waste generated annually. Freepoint Eco-Systems, along with other advanced recycling facilities, can recycle over 80% of the remaining waste. Pre- and post-consumer recycling are becoming more important in our industry. But, how do both methods compare? What are their benefits and challenges? It is often said that in nature, there is no such thing as waste. Everything is recycled there. The carpet industry can draw inspiration from nature’s efficient recycling systems. Take a quick look around your household, and you will realize that daily life is hard to imagine without plastics. It’s in the packaging that keeps our food fresh, in the clothes we wear, in our furniture, carpets and countless other everyday objects. To make sure plastic does not end up as waste, we need closed-loop production to keep resources in play for as long as possible. This way, there is no plastic waste, or at least, waste plastics are valorized again as much as possible. 👉In our new blog post, we share our view of how both pre- and post-consumer recycling have their role to play in the carpet industry: https://lnkd.in/eB7ZsssG #sustainableyarns #recycledplastic #recycling #yarns #carpettiles

Four easy ways to make recycling at home even easier ♻️ 🚮 Create a recycling station – separate your indoor bins by what recyclable products they contain. This way, it’s easier to put them in the correct bins when you take out the rubbish. ♻️ Get to know your recycling requirements – what you can recycle and in which bin recyclable items belong varies from location to location. Take a look at your local council’s website for how to recycle in your area. 🥤 Use refillables – reduce the amount you have to recycle by switching out your plastic bottles and paper coffee cups for more sustainable refillable options. 🧽 Rinse, recycle, repeat – giving your recyclable items a quick rinse before popping them in the bin not only helps with unwanted smells, it also makes sure your items will be recycled. Items with too much food residue can’t be recycled as easily. #RecycleWeek #recyclingtips #apartmentliving

At Trend, we are dedicated to full implementation of our sustainable packaging strategy, which is: to remove plastic going to waste where possible, to reduce all waste materials, and to use easily recyclable materials. The first part of our sustainable packing strategy project was to review the current range of products, with focus on the use of plastic packaging. Over 50% of our product range has had packaging updated, with 76% of the range in the process of having packaging changed to be more sustainable and environmentally friendly. Our sawblade range comprises over 200 blades. As the blades are in high demand and the packaging used was a large plastic clamshell (double blister), it was decided that the first product category to change would be the sawblades, and from mid 2023 we began to switch to cardboard cartons. As a result, around 26 tonnes of plastic will be saved per year. We aim to ensure that our business practices align with eco-friendly principles. Our sense of environmental responsibility guides our waste management approach. We will publish more stories about our efforts, and we will also be launching a new area of our website to report upon progress. #sustainability #environment #packaging #recycling

As part of our ongoing commitment to improve consumers' daily lives by providing sustainable household product solutions, we have developed an alternative closing for our nappy sacks packaging, which presents the opportunity to save 34 tonnes of plastic every year - representing a potential saving of 150 tonnes of CO2 emissions.* 👶 The closing solution sees us replace the current rigid plastic lid closure with a flexible re-closable sticker, as shown in the Paclan-branded nappy sack examples in the photo below. The sticker closing will also ensure monomaterial packaging design of the flow pack, which is a significant aid during recycling process, and follows direction set out in Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive, which aims to deal with increasing quantity of packaging waste. ♻️ As a further benefit, we have also increased the level of recycled content in our nappy sacks up to 50%, saving more virgin plastic from being sourced from fossil fuels. Have you ever wondered if items like hoses, shower curtains, and swing sets are recyclable? It is important to remember that just because an item contains plastic parts, doesn’t necessarily mean recycling facilities can accept it. Hoses and shower curtains belong in the trash and larger items require a bulky item pick up. #recycle #recycling #recyclable #recyclingservices #burrtecwaste

🌍♻️ America Recycles Day ♻️🌍 At Atlas, we believe in sharing our knowledge of home management, including taking care of our planet – our home. On this day, we want to encourage everyone to make a positive impact and implement some recycling tips. Here are some helpful tips to get started: 1 Reduce and Reuse: Instead of recycling, start by finding ways to reduce waste and reusing materials. Plastic containers are cheaper, but glass jars look better and last longer. 2 Separate Recyclables: Keep a separate bin for recyclables in your home. Label it clearly and encourage everyone in your household to use it for paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, and aluminum. 3 Rinse and Clean Containers: To avoid contamination, rinse and clean food and beverage containers before recycling. Dirty items can lead to the rejection of entire batches. 4 Recycle Electronics Properly: Old electronics should be taken to a designated e-waste recycling facility. They contain valuable materials that can be reused. These small actions can lead to big change. By following these tips, you're helping reduce waste, conserve resources, and protect our environment. Let's all do our part to make a greener, cleaner world 🌿🌎 #RecycleForABetterFuture #SustainableLiving #SaveThePlanet
