Great Plastic Free July reuse tour yesterday in Sydney to look at the Cercle cup exchange scheme being piloted in a busy inner city office building service internal and public cafes. Switching from single-use to reusables isn't easy and it was great to hear from Patrick Manley on how they are working with the cafes, Mirvac and Prisoners Aid Association of NSW to implement reuse at scale and reduce plastic waste. Every year we hear of the growing number of businesses launching reuse at scale on 1st July. Let us know about any reuse schemes happening in your area! #PlasticFreeJuly #SmallStepsBigDifference #CircularEconomy

As part of our Impact Partnership with Endeavour Group we've been supporting their team to do waste audits and plastic stock takes in their retail stores. In this simple activity the staff were better able to understand their waste and identify some opportunities to make some small changes to their procedures that can add up to make a big impact. Thanks to Britt and Malissa for getting the gloves on and to Ashley Davies Jennifer Foo Dan Holland for your leadership and willingness to make change from the ground up. #PlasticFreeFoundation #PlasticFreeJuly #SmallStepsBigDifference

♻ Sure, we've all heard of accounting audits, but have you ever heard of a waste audit before?! As part of our second year partnership with Plastic Free Foundation through Rebecca Prince-Ruiz OAM we carried out a waste audit at our Dan Murphy's Bicton store. Team members Britt and Malissa did an exceptional job reviewing procurement, overstocks and as well as assessing the different waste bins in the store to better understand consumption. Through this process we will be able to develop new opportunities and solutions for our retail stores. The entire process was captured on film below! (Thanks to Tashi Hall for filming this!) It also marks the beginning of Plastic Free July where you can become part of the solution by choosing to refuse single-use plastics. ♻

Ahead of the most recent negotiations on the UN plastics treaty, @UNEP Executive Director Inger Andersen spoke clearly to the plastic problem. “When plastics were first mass-marketed in the 1950s, the concept of throwing away useful items after a single use was so alien that we had to be taught it. Fast forward seventy years, and we have learned the lesson well. Too well. Our throwaway culture means that plastic floods our drains, blocks our rivers, chokes our oceans and enters our bodies. This throwaway world must itself be thrown away.” Let's make a difference and throw away our throwaway culture. #ChooseToRefuse

As companies and consumers around the world mark, a global initiative by the Plastic Free Foundation, and in support of the UAE's steps to combat the impact of climate change, Majid Al Futtaim is proud to step up its commitment to the elimination of single use plastic across its assets and locations. Starting July 3 and for the coming month, every Wednesday will be a plastic bag-free day across all Carrefour stores in the country. In addition to offering discounts on new reusable bags, customers bringing their own shopping bags will be eligible for extra SHARE points when purchasing in-store. The introduction of Carrefour's plastic free days forms an important part of Majid Al Futtaim's work to reach Net Positive in carbon and water by 2040. Other in-store sustainability initiatives include the introduction of Reverse Vending Machines. Delivered in partnership with BEEAH and Sparklo, the machines incentivise customers to return and recycle PET bottles. Since being installed in 2023, Carrefour customers have recycled over 20 tonnes of plastic and prevented the release of over 125 tonnes of CO2. #PlasticBagFreeDay #SingleUsePlasticBan #Sustainability #ReusableBags #MajidAlFuttaim
