If you are a company that scheduled multiple candidates for interviews on the same day, and a candidate early in the day impresses you tremendously and you know they will be the hire, that is great news! DO NOT CANCEL THE REMAINING INTERVIEWS FOR THAT DAY. #1 not everyone will take your offer, if candidate 1 rejects your offer, and you canceled on the remaining candidates, you are back to square one. #2 it's always good to meet candidates, you never know if there is a position you have for them now, or you can store their information for down the road. #3 MOST IMPORTANTLY, it's rude! Someone changed their schedule, might have taken off from work, drove far away, it is simple human decency to follow through with the interview, the same way you would expect a candidate not to no-show on you! Let's treat each other well and make the hiring process as easy and gentle as possible. #hiring #interviews

Just wrapped up Week 5 of my #jobhunt. Here's an update! - I got news that I wasn't selected after the final round panel interview. It was good to be able to knock the dust off to give myself clues for how I can show up better for the next one. - Had coffee with the president of a startup to chat about its need for a project lead. - (1) online application rejection - Had (2) additional screen/interviews with a large tech company. I have another meeting scheduled for Monday morning. - Referred to and made it through (2) consulting company phone screens - Had a handful of other conversations with potential leads that I'll share more about when/if they materialize into something more significant. This Week..... I won't grind as hard as I get back into more of a routine that involves eating better, exercising and relaxing my mind. A huge shout out to everyone out there looking for work. WHEN WE REJECT A CANDIDATE WE ARE REJECTING A PERSON, NOT JUST A RESUME. Sometimes in any industry, but particularly in recruiting/hiring we get so caught up making sure we hire the right people for the job, or recruiting the right people that we just reject away people who are not qualified without thinking about them as people. Yesterday, I rejected a candidate who was not the right candidate for the job, this was someone who was down on their luck and told me they have been turned down 38 times!! yes 38 times. While they were still not the right fit, it did make me think about, while we do have to make decisions that are the right and prudent ones, we should not make them lightly and rather think about the person we are rejecting not just their resume. Let's hope everyone finds their dream job as soon as possible. #hiring #recruiting #people

Just a friendly reminder: the "applicants" number on LinkedIn doesn't show how many people actually applied for the job. It only counts the number of people who viewed the job post and clicked "apply." If someone views the post multiple times, they're counted as multiple "applicants," which can significantly skew the numbers. Don't let this discourage you from applying for a position you're qualified for! The number can be misleading, so it's best not to focus too much on it. Stay positive and apply if you're interested and qualified. #HR #Recruitment #Humanresources #work

Healthcare took a really hard hit this week with some serious layoffs 📉. 💊 CVS (Nationwide) - 5,000 non-customer facing positions cut. ⚕ Optum Health (Virtual) - Closing virtual care business operations. Undisclosed number of employees impacted. 🏥 Hinge Health (Physical Therapy) - Laid off about 10% of staff. 🏥 UPMC (Pittsburgh, PA) - Laid off about 1,000 staff members (non-clinical). ⚕ Medline (Lincolnton, NC / Charlotte area) 200 people laid off at medical distribution center. 🧬 Emergent BioSolutions - 300 employees laid off and also closing 85 vacant positions (2 facility closures in Baltimore, Maryland and Rockville, Maryland). 🏥 Stanislaus Surgical Hospital of Modesto (Modesto, California) - Facing closure after removal from Medicare Program. Hospital employees from administrative assistants to registered nurses and X-ray technicians would be laid off between April 29 and May 1, according to the April 15 letter to the county. 🏥 Walmart Health - Closing down entire Walmart Health division at all 51 locations (Florida, Georgia, Arkansas, Illinois, Texas) There is some incredible talent that has been impacted and they are looking for a new opportunity. I've seen a few posts lately on what are good and bad questions candidates can ask in interviews. 🤔 My take: If you need to ask someone else what questions you should ask then you're going for the wrong role. If you understand the role, want it and can do it, you will know what questions to ask as the answers will actually matter to you.

I have been in Recruiting for 7 years. I started my career as a Staffing Agency Recruiter. I quickly realized that helping people and making connections was something that I loved to do. Nothing feels better than helping someone land a job that impacts their livelihood, their families, and how they view themselves in the morning. The market is a bit scary right now as I am enduring my 3rd layoff within my career. I get it, I understand the mental and financial toll this can take on a person and their families. With that being said, we need to not forget this is not the end of the road. Take this moment as an opportunity, explore new career paths, brush up on your skills and connect with other professionals in your industry and stay networking. Most importantly stay positive! It is easy to get discouraged in the face of layoffs and uncertainty, but remember you have the power to control your own destiny. Take this setback as a chance to grow, learn, and ultimately come out even stronger on the other side.
