The Zeiterion Performing Arts Center groundbreaking ceremony was held last Friday, June 28. It was a great event for a project we started in February 2020. Since then, we have been through a lot together and much has changed. However, our collective commitment to reimagining a new performing arts center that would endure another 100 years was constant. The Zeiterion team has been a dream partner to work with. Their staff and board should be celebrated for this monumental event. Congratulations! A look behind the scenes of the Aquadome on #IconoftheSeas! The dome was assembled on the grounds of the shipyard adjacent to the ship. After all steel and glass panels were placed, it was flown to its final location at the front of the ship by the shipyard’s 1200-ton gantry crane. Truly a momentous and heart-pounding occasion. We worked very closely with the engineering expertise of Meyer Turku and Novum Structures to design a structure that did not require any interior pillars. The lack of pillars created a grand, open interior with unobstructed views. Although counter-intuitive, the lack of pillars reduces the transferred vibrations from the ship and allowed for the size of the dome's structural members to be decreased.
