Our mission is to be the legal partner to neighborhoods and nonprofits in pursuit of more just and vibrant communities.
About us
Community Law Center, a nonprofit law firm, provides legal services to community and nonprofit organizations throughout Maryland to promote stronger nonprofits and more vibrant neighborhoods. Community Law Center is Maryland’s only legal services organization dedicated solely to strengthening neighborhoods and the nonprofit sector. We seek partnerships with community organizers, nonprofits, businesses, law enforcement, educators, and governmental agencies to realize each client’s strategic goals. With staff attorneys and over 500 volunteer attorneys, Community Law Center is equipped to provide representation to neighborhoods and nonprofits for all of their legal needs. Community Law Center empowers communities and nonprofits that lack the financial resources to pay for private legal representation. Community Law Center makes an important and unique contribution to the region as it utilizes its expertise and effectiveness in using the law to overcome or mitigate many of the social, economic, and environmental problems that plague neighborhoods. Through our programs, we have assisted in the formation and growth of hundreds of community associations and nonprofits, facilitated the revitalization of blighted land and vacant structures, reduced crime and nuisance activities stemming from residential and commercial properties, and helped communities and nonprofits accomplish their goals and achieve their missions.

On June 26th, Community Law Center joined more than 20 other #legalservices in the DMV for the first in-person Federal Government Pro Bono Fair since 2019. This event, held at U.S. Department of Justice, attracted over 100 federal attorneys and paralegals all looking for meaningful pro bono opportunities. All LSO participants were pre-vetted to offer volunteer supported and quality conflict-free cases. Rachel Rossi, the Director of the Office for Access to Justice at DOJ, addressed the group sharing the federal government’s commitment to supporting pro bono service for its employees in 50 nationwide offices. CLC was one of six Maryland organizations to participate. The others were Community Legal Services of Prince George's County, Inc., Disability Rights Maryland, Maryland Legal Aid, Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service (MVLS) and Pro Bono Resource Center of Maryland.

As we join with neighbors to celebrate #Juneteenth, the Community Law Center is honored to continue to represent Black communities in the pursuit of just solutions to problems created by decades of racist, unjust policies and actions.
