5️⃣ Together, we helped federal policymakers put climate science into action … in the US, and beyond. Woodwell Climate’s Dr. Marcia Macedo and collaborators, including Dr. Ane Alencar of partner organization IPAM Amazônia, convened a multi-day workshop in Brazil that produced a policy brief on forest degradation. They then organized experts to submit public comments on Brazil’s updated policy for controlling Amazon deforestation, which for the first time also addresses forest degradation. 🎁 This impact was possible with your support. Extending a heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who made a year-end gift for climate solutions! EESI has top ratings from Charity Navigator, Candid, and GreatNonprofits, so you know that your gift will be used effectively. Those who gave during the year-end campaign enabled us to unlock $10,000 in matching gifts. Individual donors provide a quarter of the resources EESI needs to keep advancing climate solutions. Our plans for 2024 include: ✔ All-new briefings that will cover topics like the Fifth National Climate Assessment, advanced weather forecasting, budget and appropriations, federal funding for climate research and development, and more ✔ Updated fact sheets on climate jobs, fossil fuel subsidies, Farm Bill proposals, and funding levels for key federal agencies—which will also be complemented by timely, relevant articles about how climate solutions are delivering economic and environmental benefits ✔ Refreshed topic and program design pages published online as part of the Beneficial Electrification Toolkit, which rural electric cooperatives have come to rely on And it's still a great time to advance climate solutions! We hit some significant milestones, including closing out our first FRB, publishing 5 research papers, deploying $9.8 million towards ecosystem resilience, and partnering with 13 new investors. None of these accomplishments would have been possible without the support of our remarkable partners and dedicated employees - I am continually grateful for their efforts. These accomplishments demonstrate our commitment to making a positive and lasting impact on landscapes and communities. Dive into our comprehensive 2023 Impact Report to learn more about our projects, partnerships, and the measurable outcomes of our restoration efforts. nonprofit operations expert & Certified Business Strategist | Want to make your nonprofit finance, contracting, project management & HR more professional? I am here for you! | Online consulting, courses & workshops
Is your nonprofit doing the same thing all the time? I remember when I was coordinating a project with subgrants to local partners. We set up a call for proposals, with terms of reference, templates, conditions and a deadline. It was a lot of work. And I was really looking forward to receiving a lot of nice project proposals that I would be proud to support. [spoiler alert] This story has no happy ending. Because what we got was: >> Low quality proposals, made last minute, that were very unclear about what they wanted us to support and why. >> Activities without any long-term plan or impact. And worst of all: I saw the same activities in several different proposals! As if there are only two things an environmental NGO can do in this world… Clean-up actions and summer camps. Of course it’s great if you go to the forest and clean out all the trash. I’m definitely not against trash-free forests. But the forest will soon be cluttered with waste again if this is the only activity you do, only once, and only with your team. If you want to make sure your forest stays clean, you could think of many supporting activities. Like setting up waste bins. Organising waste collection within your local community. Advocating for waste management policies. Advocating for reduction of waste from packages. Engaging the community. Educating school kids. And whatnot. The lack of variation in activities is simply a lack of imagination. And a lack of taking time to really look at what’s the issue, what’s going on, who’s involved, why are they doing what they’re doing, etc.. If you create a strategic plan, these are things you’ll look into in the research and analysis phase. (Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eRdxNF_a) And if you do that well, you’ll surely find new perspectives. And new ideas for activities with better impact because they’re more suited to the community and partners you serve. #nonprofitleadership #nonprofitstrategicplanning #nonprofitmanagement
