Empowering People to Lead Systemic Change
About us
Disability Rights Maryland (DRM) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that protects and advances the rights of people with disabilities in Maryland. We provide free legal support to address issues like abuse, neglect or discrimination which might occur in education, housing, transportation, healthcare, voting, and more. DRM works to ensure that people with disabilities don’t have to live in institutions unnecessarily. We envision a world where everyone has access to the services they need to fully participate in the workplace, neighborhoods, and all aspects of community life.

Tim Scott's commitment to making a difference started with a life-changing 4,300-mile bike ride from Seattle to Washington D.C. to raise awareness for people with disabilities. Now, as a pro bono attorney with DRM, he's helping families navigate the complexities of the education system. Tim finds this work incredibly rewarding, both personally and professionally. He believes that even without a background in education law, lawyers can make a significant impact. MobilityLink paratransit is a critical service that connects many riders with disabilities to their communities. MobilityLink should be dependable for its riders but is often unreliable. This will help us to improve this vital service!
As of July 1, 2024, SB 891 is officially enacted! This important law is all about improving the paratransit service for our community members with disabilities. The Maryland Transportation Institute at the University of Maryland will be conducting a study to find the best ways to make the Maryland Transit Administration's ADA MobilityLink service even better. The Governor can include at least $150,000 in the 2026 budget to fund this study. By July 1, 2025, we’ll have a detailed report with recommendations on how to enhance this essential service. A huge shoutout to Delegate Mark Edelson for his relentless effort in the House of Delegates to get this bill passed. This is a significant step towards making our transit system more inclusive and efficient.
