The Department of Juvenile Services (DJS) is an executive agency charged with the responsibility of appropriately managing, supervising and treating youth who are involved in the juvenile justice system in Maryland. DJS provides individualized care and treatment to youth who have violated the law or who are a safety risk to themselves or others. Objective screening and assessment tools are utilized to manage youth with the guidance of the data collected. DJS works with partners in the community to achieve meaningful improvements to the outcomes of the youth served.

Department of Juvenile Services employees recently participated in the 2024 Matthew Fast Memorial Interagency Basketball Tournament in Frederick, MD. The tournament featured teams from DJS, the Frederick Police Department, the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, the State's Attorney’s Office, the Fire and Rescue of Frederick County, and the YMCA. All proceeds from the event supported the family of Matt Fast, a Frederick City police officer who passed away in 2016. The DJS team put on an impressive performance, winning every game and securing the golden ball trophy! It was a fantastic day for both players and spectators. Congratulations to the DJS team members, including Heather Hibbard, Tayana Stewart, Travis Dordevic, Michael Crabtree, Donavin Vinson, Houston Manley, Tim Landers, and Brent Williams.
