Aventuur is the leading global creator of integrated surf, leisure and wellbeing developments. We are curating a global network of deeply connected communities, bound by a love of surfing, that provide transformational experiences that enhance wellbeing. Our mission is to create exceptional surfing destinations and experiences that generate meaningful social and economic value. Founded in 2019, Aventuur is currently developing a A$100 million, world-class surf park in Perth, Western Australia, planned to be the largest in the Southern Hemisphere, and a sustainable surf park community in Auckland, New Zealand. Aventuur is Wavegarden's largest partner globally, holding exclusive rights to its market-leading technology in a range of markets across North America and Australia, along with the country exclusivities for New Zealand, Singapore and Fiji.     During a recent visit to Aotearoa, New Zealand Olympic surfer Billy Stairmand chaperoned MicroSurfAcademy founder Glenn “Micro” Hall and our Director of Surf and Sustainability Adrian "Ace" Buchan on a strike mission to the North Island’s East Coast. Together the trio scored playful cold-water peaks and reconnected over a shared love of riding waves and passing on the gift of surfing to the next generation.     McKinsey & Company's latest report on “The State of Tourism and Hospitality” highlights the shifting narrative associated with luxury travel, including: - the demand for adventure and specialty experiences. - how the luxury market is yet to master wellness. - the rise of younger, less affluent travellers. “Wellness is a major, ongoing, global trend, and luxury tourists are increasingly looking for ways to put their health—both mental and physical—at the center of their travels. Mainstream luxury providers still mostly seem to think that wellness equals spas.     Our Wavegarden Bays offer open-face and white-water waves up to half a meter high, with rides lasting between 14-18 seconds. These waves are ideal for newcomers providing a safe and controlled environment for them to enjoy surfing. The Bays can accommodate 50 people across multiple zones, making them an excellent entry point for beginners. Additionally, they generate the highest profit margins for business owners.     It takes a community to create a surf park. We’re proud of our team, and thankful to our partners, for helping us achieve resource consent for the Auckland Surf Park. Opening in 2027, our vision is to deliver a surf park community that is by and for Aotearoa, celebrates its people and cultures, and is both environmentally and socially sustainable. We’re excited to be working with Spark New Zealand on a world-first initiative to use excess heat energy from a co-located data centre (planned to be powered by renewable energy) to warm our Wavegarden surfing lagoon year-round. We look forward to collaborating with our stakeholders, Aucklanders and the New Zealand surfing community to increase access to world-class amenities, and provide opportunities for everyone to enhance their wellbeing.     We’re delighted to announce that we’ve received resource consent for our Auckland Surf Park. Located in Dairy Flat, New Zealand’s first surf park will provide world-class sport, recreation, hospitality and tourism amenities that celebrate Aotearoa, its surfing heritage and culture, and the area’s rural character. With a significant focus on sustainability, the masterplanned community includes a co-located Spark New Zealand data centre and 7-hectare solar farm. Notably, excess heat from Spark's data centre (planned to be powered by renewable energy, including on-site generation from the solar farm) will be harnessed to warm the surfing lagoon year-round – a world-first. We’re thankful for all the support we’ve received to date, including from leading organisations and athletes who believe in the surf park’s potential to enhance wellbeing, and deliver an iconic destination for locals, Kiwi surfers and visitors to New Zealand.     The wonders of modern technology! In late 2023, surf legends Adrian "Ace" Buchan, Conner Coffin, and Glenn Hall executed a strike mission to WAVEPARK, Seoul, South Korea, aiming to develop and refine new competition waves before Korea’s first-ever World Surf League QS events. As Ace and the boys surfed their hearts out, our fluid dynamics team back in Spain tuned in live, using the surfers' feedback to improve the waves until they were absolutely perfect. A week later, the WSL kicked off their two contests – QS3000 Shortboard and QS Longboard.     On the eve of what promises to be another seminal moment in modern professional surfing at the end of the road, Teahupoo, I thought I would share some words; "Tahiti is an intoxicating elixir that keeps you coming back for more. If it was a drink, it would be a mix of velvety, coconut champagne infused with mezcal. Just as you’re drifting off it punches you in the face. Its verdant, volcanic mountains exploding upwards into the mist, fringed by a thin layer of fertile land dotted with thriving villages protected by palm trees, coral reefs and a pace of life so slow that a New Yorker might have a seizure." The above is an excerpt from my underground fantasy newsletter that many of you are subscribed to. (If you're not and want to, let me know). Besides providing a behind the curtain look at tour life and what it takes to do well at the varied locations it's been a nostalgic experience taking myself back to the locations that became home. Perhaps, none more so than Tahiti. It was a journey that started as a wide-eyed grommet in the Billabong house, soaking up the confidence, kindness to share knowledge and aura of invincibility, of the late, great Andy Irons. The wave challenged me both mentally and physically in ways that I never dreamt of when I was a 10 year old kid dreaming of the World Tour. It was a decade long process of deliberate, focused attention and commitment to improve which ultimately led me to some career defining moments where I was able to act purely on instinct and skill. To me that process of continued self reflection and thirst for clarity under pressure is so relevant and under-utilised in modern business. Sitting out the back with priority when the horizon goes black, the channel screaming for you to go and a few million people watching online can be a lonely place if you don't have full confidence in your preparation and skills. But if you do, that moment of opportunity can be liberating and powerful! I can't wait to tune in to the World Surf League the next few days and marvel at the beauty of Tahiti and the talent of the next generation!
