The Africa Program works to address the most critical issues facing Africa and U.S.-Africa relations, build mutually beneficial U.S.–Africa relations, and enhance knowledge and understanding about Africa in the United States. The Program achieves its mission through in-depth research and analyses, including our blog Africa Up Close, public discussion, working groups, and briefings that bring together policymakers, practitioners, and subject matter experts to analyze and offer practical options for tackling key challenges in Africa and in U.S.-Africa relations. The Africa Program focuses on four core issues: • Good governance and leadership • Conflict prevention, peacebuilding, and security • Trade, investment, and sustainable development • Africa’s evolving role in the global arena The program also maintains a cross-cutting focus on the roles of women, youth, and technology.

🏛 SVNP Scholars Alumni Conference: Capitol Hill Engagement 🏛 Last week, the Africa Program welcomed our SVNP alumni scholars to the Wilson Center for a conference focused on reimagining the future of governance in Africa. A core mission of the SVNP Scholars Program is to provide opportunities for our scholars to engage with U.S. policymakers and share their on-the-ground insights for advancing democratic governance and peacebuilding on the continent. To this end, our scholars and alumni had to opportunity to travel to the Hill and met with Africa staffers from the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and House Foreign Affairs Committee to learn more about Congressional perspectives on US-Africa relations and to share their insights on important topics related to governance, security, and peacebuilding in Africa. They also enjoyed a tour of the United States Capitol.
