The magic show always grabs the kids! Don’t see much magic at the market anymore.

The Market Place in Belper was originally known as The Green and John Wesley preached here in 1786. It was improved and enlarged by the Strutts in the 1830s and finally paved in 1881.

Market Stall at the Distillery District in Toronto. Very festive during the holiday season with Artisan Stalls and Christmas treats.

this is the roof of one shop in flower market

think of the light:

vaporous gold from

a distance, flickers

of flame, think of

the merchants:

legless boy wheeling

his cart, old blind-in-

one eye, looky see

looky see, temptress

half-veiled, eyes

like burnt almonds,

twin sisters with toddlers

in tow roped to their

waists, budgies flitting

and shrilling, aromas,

bolts of cloth, swatches

of this&that, sizzling

meats, knockoff Rolexes,

Gucci, Brunello, jade,

topaz, gleaming mother

of pearl, someone grabs

your arm, someone flashes

eyes, others drift past,

thunder crackles the sky,

incense wafts about you

maybe sandalwood and

you think of a religious

procession of which you

are a part, wandering slowly,

aimlessly, like life toward

an uncertain destination

with nothing to show but

a few trinkets, souvenirs

you will soon forget when

the bus comes as you wait

silently in line for those strangers

and family talking softly ahead

who seem reluctant to leave.

The Markthal (English: Market Hall) is a residential and office building with a market hall underneath, located in Rotterdam.

The building was opened on October 1, 2014, by Queen Máxima of the Netherlands. Besides the large market hall, the complex houses 228 apartments, 4,600 m2 retail space, 1,600 m2 horeca and an underground 4-storey parking garage with a capacity of over 1200 cars.

The Markthal was designed by architectural firm MVRDV. The grey nature stone building has an archwise structure like a horseshoe. The building has a glass facade on both sides; these are made up of smaller glass windows. The smaller windows are mostly squared and around 1485 millimeters wide. All of these are hung around a structure of steel cables, 34 metres high and 42 metres wide, which makes it the largest glass-window cable structure in Europe

The inside of the building is adorned with an 11.000 m2 artwork by Arno Coenen and Iris Roskam, named Hoorn des Overvloeds (Horn of Plenty). The artwork shows strongly enlarged fruits, vegetables, seeds, fish, flowers and insects.

OFFICIALLY KNOWN AS THE MARKET Cross, this building in Barnard Castle, North Yorkshire is known by locals as the Butter Market. Its construction was paid for by a local man named Thomas Breaks in 1747. The octagonal shape is topped by a bell tower and weather-vane.

The weather vane also contains two bullet holes that resulted from a shooting contest between a local volunteer militiaman, and the lord’s gamekeeper in 1803. The shots were taken from over 100 yards away. The accuracy of the shots were even more amazing given that they were fired from the doorway of the Turk’s Head Pub.

Round the base of Market Cross is a series of columns that form a veranda. For many years, the veranda was utilized by the spouses of farmers to sell dairy products, hence the local name. The internal structural columns were also caged off during this time to form a small jail.

Christmas came alive in Chichester City Centre from 8th until 16th December 2018, East Street and North Street in Chichester City Centre was alive with an array of festive stands as the return of our Chichester Christmas Market was celebrated.

Visitors were able to choose from a mix of unique and quality gifts, crafts, and artwork. With speciality food and drink stands, offering delicious temptations to take home, as well as the chance to enjoy food-on-the-go, from festive caterers.

There was a varied, carefully handpicked selection of exhibitors offering high quality products. Among a host of superb gift ideas were handmade ceramics, original artwork, seasonal gifts, glassware, unique jewellery, giftware, traditional toys, artisan cheeses, homemade pickles and chutney, seasonal decorations and much more.

Chichester is a cathedral city and civil parish in West Sussex, England. It is the only city in West Sussex and its county town. It was a Roman and Anglo-Saxon settlement and a major market town from those times through Norman and medieval times to the present day. It is the seat of the Church of England Diocese of Chichester, with a 12th-century cathedral.

Chichester Cross seen in the distance is an elaborate Perpendicular market cross in the centre of the city of Chichester standing at the intersection of the four principal streets. It is a Grade I listed building.

The Market Cross is constructed of Caen stone, one of the most favoured building materials of the age. The cross' form is octangular, having a strong abutment at each angle, surmounted with pinnacles.

Until the start of the nineteenth century the Cross was used as a market-place; but the increased population of the city requiring a more extensive area for that purpose, a large and convenient market-house was, about the year 1807, erected in the North-street; on the completion of which, it was proposed to take down this Cross, then considered as a nuisance. This was prevented from taking place when some of the members of the corporation purchased several houses on the north side of the Cross in order to widen that part of the street by their demolition.

On an abnormally warm Autumn day, it was great to wander around Downey Park Markets, in Brisbane. Some of the stalls were very eye catching, especially this one. Many years ago, my father ran a cocoa plantation in PNG, so it's good to see the 'tradition' continuing. On the left is a real cocoa pod, which caught my eye as well.
