The story of the Eden Project is the story of a worked-out mine that was transformed into something incredible. But it’s not the only one. Published today, 102 Things to Do with a Hole in the Ground is a new book from the Eden Project, co-written by environmental specialist Dr Peter Whitbread-Abrutat and the Eden Project’s in-house editor, Dr Rob Lowe. Readers will take a tour of some of the world’s best examples of old mines being transformed to give the habitats and communities around them new futures. There are over 102 examples ranging from inspiring world tours of heritage and tourist attractions to wildlife habitats and new industry uses – it offers a glimpse into a promising future where the remnants of mining can be converted from a liability to an opportunity. When mines and quarries close, they shouldn’t become scars on the landscape or sources of pollution or leave their working communities on the brink of collapse. With imagination and determination, they can offer something radically different — hope. 102 Things to Do with a Hole in the Ground is a non-profit publication sponsored by Rio Tinto, Anglo American, BHP and Newmont Corporation with the support of The Land Trust, RESOLVE and ICMM. 102 Things to Do with a Hole in the Ground is available now 👇 UK orders: https://bit.ly/3zA4NTf International orders: https://lnkd.in/eMCWxXaE

Students to exhibit Show Gardens at RHS Hampton Court Palace. 🌿 Victoria Cucknell and Hayley Herridge, Garden and Landscape Design HNC students at the Cornwall College University Centre based at the Eden Project, have been awarded the opportunity to each present a show garden at this year’s Royal Horticultural Society Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival. Their designs, focusing on the theme "Resilience," will compete in the Pocket Planting category, mentored by award-winning designer Tom Massey. Victoria's "Wild Child Cornwall" and Hayley's "Buglife: The B-Lines Garden" showcase biodiversity, pollinator support, and sustainable practices. We are incredibly proud of their achievements and look forward to seeing their innovative designs come to life. #RHS #HamptonCourt #LandscapeDesign #Horticulture
