🚨The King's Speech to Parliament has revealed plans that our new government will introduce a bill to strengthen the powers of the water regulators.🚨 We welcome this news, but will be watching closely that they deliver this and to a meaningful level, which holds polluting companies to account so we can end sewage pollution. #endsewagepollution #sickofsewage #sewage #saveourseas #saveourrivers #oceanactivists #riverpollution

About us
Surfers Against Sewage is a national marine conservation and campaigning charity that inspires, unites and empowers communities to take action to protect the ocean and our blue spaces. Home to the Million Mile Clean, Plastic Free Communities, Plastic Free Schools and the Safer Seas & Rivers Service. Our Campaigns Water Quality - Sewage and agricultural pollution still plague the rivers and ocean. We are calling for an end to sewage pollution to guarantee safe seas, all year round. Our ambition is to end sewage discharges into UK bathing waters by 2030. Ocean & Climate - To reverse the ocean and climate crisis, we need urgent and drastic reduction in carbon dioxide emissions as well as the rapid embracing of nature-based solutions to limit carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere. Our ambition is for the UK to be net-zero by 2030. Ocean Recovery - The UK’s seas host some of the most biodiverse life in the world. However, due to the increasing pressure from human activities, marine biodiversity has decreased dramatically. Our ambition is for 30% of the ocean and all UK Marine Protected Areas to be highly protected by 2030. Plastic Pollution - To solve the plastic pollution crisis, we need to reduce the production and consumption of non-essential single-use, throwaway and polluting plastic, and build a circular economy that ensures plastics are designed to be reused and repaired. Our ambition is to end single-use plastic pollution on UK beaches by 2030.

🚨Ofwat, The water regulator for England and Wales is taking action against four more water companies, Severn Trent, Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water, Hafren Dyfrdwy and United Utilities.🚨 This means Ofwat is taking enforcement action against all 11 wastewater companies in England and Wales due to sewage pollution. 🚨The system is clearly broken🚨 📢We are calling for a full public enquiry, it is clear that we need root and branch change to end the sewage crisis once and for all. 📢 #endsewagepollution #sickofsewage #sewage #saveourseas #saveourrivers #oceanactivists #riverpollution

Today, Ofwat has signed off on us all swimming and surfing in sewage pollution beyond 2030 😡😡😡 The general election campaign made clear that we are all fed up with those in power turning a blind eye to the sewage scandal. Today's announcement, in which Ofwat signs off the continuation of at least 200,000 sewage discharges a year, is simply unacceptable and a sign that the regulator still doesn't comprehend the scale of our fury on this issue. 🚨The new Labour government must ensure this failure is the last whimper of a broken system and immediately call a public inquiry - something that our research shows is supported by 82% of the British public. 🚨 It's clear that our water industry is deep in the sewer. We think only a full public inquiry will help us understand how we got here and how we can dig our way out. #endsewagepollution #sickofsewage #sewage #saveourseas #saveourrivers #oceanactivists #riverpollution

If you need anymore reason to reduce your plastic consumption, then this is it. Our @plasticfreecommunitiesinwestsomerset found this pre-decimal bag for frozen peas, that makes it over 50 years old, and going strong. We are leaving a plastic legacy which will be around for millennia if we do not do anything about. 📢WHAT WILL YOU PLEDGE FOR PLASTIC FREE JULY?📢 This year’s Plastic Free July campaign focuses on small changes each of us can make to reduce plastic waste. We’ve said it before, but small actions really do make a BIG difference. Every time we refuse to accept a plastic bag, or bring our refill coffee cup, we are driving change. Whichever single-use plastic you pledge to remove, you are having an impact. You can find out more here - https://lnkd.in/eskQtnW5
