#healthcare >> About 20,000 patients with multiple sclerosis are officially registered in Ukraine, but due to the lack of a national registry, the actual number may be many times higher. The main problem is the difficulty of accessing innovative treatments that can prevent the development of the disease and avoid disability. Roche develops innovative medicines, including a drug for primary progressive MS. Primary progressive MS may affect young people on the verge of their most productive years, manifesting in severe and unrelenting symptoms and resulting in rapid disability. Unfortunately, in Ukraine, patients have limited access to the drug due to a lack of state funding. The main difficulties in providing treatment are related to the w@@r, infrastructure destruction, and economic situation. In 2024, government spending on healthcare in Ukraine will be less than 3% of GDP although the need is at least 5%. Roche launched the "United for Health" program which provides additional packages of medication to medical institutions. They are in constant dialogue with the Ministry of Health to ensure patients have access to innovative drugs funded by the state as well as offer a patient support discount program and conduct educational campaigns to raise awareness about MS. Inadequate access to treatment reduces patient productivity, impacting the country’s economy. For example, in the EU, 80% of MS patients can continue to work, whereas in Ukraine only 1 in 3 can. Eirhub collaborated with Roche Ukraine to estimate annual economic losses from reduced productivity and caregiving costs to be around 50 million euros. This figure underscores the urgent need for improved healthcare funding and access to innovative treatments to mitigate long-term economic impacts. Will the Ukrainian clinical trials (CTs) industry recover soon? Today, the Ukrainian CT industry is resilient despite all the challenges. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁? Before the invasion, Ukraine was becoming a key center for CTs: in 2021, there were almost 800 active trials in the country. In early 2023, more than 40 multinational trials were interrupted. As of 2Q 2024, the total number of ongoing CTs in Ukraine reached 358, including 25 started in 1Q 2024, and another 81 CTs were approved by the Ministry of Health to start. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝗽𝗶𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲: The latest report from the State Expert Center (SEC) highlights that 11 new CTs were approved in Q2 2024, with no temporary suspensions or terminations of new patient enrolment recorded. The year 2024 saw no temporary cessation of any other CTs in Ukraine. This stability demonstrates the reliability of CT in Ukraine in the context of w@@@r, which could potentially attract more International investments and collaborations. 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀: The adaptability of Ukraine's clinical trial industry suggests a broader resilience in the country's healthcare system. This resilience can lead to increased international collaboration and funding, bolstering Ukraine's position as a key player in clinical trials. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆: Historically, the CTs sector in Ukraine has been strong due to its highly educated population and advanced digital medical solutions. Despite the devastation caused by the w@@@r, the sector has adapted, found innovative solutions to logistical challenges, and accelerated trial approval. Part of this adaptability has been driven by lessons learned during COVID-19 when remote monitoring and creative solutions for transporting biospecimens became the norm. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁? Ukraine's clinical trials industry is ready to recover, provided that it has strong support from the government and international companies. Ukraine's clinical trials industry is ready to recover with strong support from the government and international companies, so with further support, Ukraine could become a key CT hub. As of now, it is known that 38 people have tragically lost their lives, including four children. 190 people have been injured. Currently, 64 individuals are hospitalized in Kyiv, 28 in Kryvyi Rih, and 6 in Dnipro. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this act of terror. In Kyiv, three hospitals were affected: 𝗢𝗵𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗱𝘆𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻'𝘀 𝗛𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹, as well as the 𝗜𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗮 and 𝗔𝗗𝗢𝗡𝗜𝗦 Hospitals. Doctors are completing surgeries in partially destroyed operating rooms, and children are being evacuated to other hospitals across our country. At the same time, we are grateful for all the people who have united and supported the hospitals with their collective efforts. Businesses are donating large sums for reconstruction, and ordinary people are bringing necessary supplies and assisting in clearing the debris. Eternal memory to the victims of the terror attack! 🙏🏼 Eirhub Team

#DigitalHealth >> 🌟 Exciting Update for Healthcare in Ukraine! 📱 The Ukrainian government has recently passed a resolution that will display medical data in the Diia app. This means that Ukrainians will now have the convenience of registering themselves as patients in the electronic healthcare system, choosing a family doctor, and submitting or terminating declarations, all through Diia. No more need to visit the hospital and spend time on these tasks! In addition, updating personal information like a new phone number or address in the electronic healthcare system will soon be just a few clicks away in Diia. Currently, such updates require a visit to the clinic or contacting the National Health Service. This digital transformation will streamline the process, making it simpler and faster. 🇺🇦 This initiative is a significant step towards modernizing healthcare in Ukraine, ensuring that essential services are accessible to everyone, and enhancing the efficiency of the healthcare system.
