An EU #CardiovascularHealth Plan is urgently needed to save lives, improve patient outcomes, and safeguard our workforce and economies. The status quo of CVD as the number one killer in Europe cannot be left unchallenged. Following the re-election this afternoon of Ursula von der Leyen as European Commission President for a second term, we are encouraged to see the commitment to focus on cardiovascular disease in the political guidelines for the 2024-2029 mandate. The burden of non-communicable diseases (#NCDs) such as cancer, diabetes, mental health, as well as cardiovascular and respiratory conditions is growing worldwide, particularly impacting low- and middle-income countries. In preparation for next year's United Nations High-Level Meeting on NCDs, we advocate for global financing for NCDs and mental health through both international and domestic funding, together with our partners. Identifying innovative financing mechanisms and establishing realistic targets are both necessary to get us on the road to 2025. Tamara Schudel, Global Health and Access Committee Chair and Vice President & Head of Global Policy at Roche, noted these takeaways following IFPMA's participation in last month's international dialogue on sustainable financing for NCDs and mental health, hosted by the World Health Organization and The World Bank. 👇 https://ifpma.info/4eD9mMK
