Amid Ukraine war, the World Health Organization is addressing healthcare issues in frontline oblasts. Extensive damage and community displacement demand urgent medical assistance. The WHO Country Office in Ukraine partnered with Premise to run recurring surveys to gauge public access to essential health services and gain invaluable insights crucial to improving ongoing healthcare provision in the impacted regions. WHO's recent factsheet, based on Premise data in seven oblasts, shows a notable decrease in healthcare costs as the primary barrier from June to September. Yet, challenges like service unavailability and staffing gaps increased during this period. Read more about the impact of Premise remote monitoring in the factsheet. https://bit.ly/3SJq1nJ #GlobalHealth #WHO #PremiseData #Ukraine

Expanding the range of quality healthcare services on the road to recovery: results of the grant program for #Ukraine Throughout 2023, 14 primary healthcare facilities located in the war-affected regions were actively working to expand and improve healthcare services for their patients despite the difficult situation in the country. This became possible thanks to the #grantprogram "Expansion of Services, Improvement of Quality and Patient-Centeredness in Primary Health Care Facilities" implemented by the USAID Health Care Reform Support Project. (USAID HRS) During the 9 months of the grant program implementation, all 14 primary healthcare facilities managed to expand the range of their services and improve the level of primary #healthcareprovision, providing access to new services to 610,000 patients. Promoting the development of primary health care and sharing best practices gained during participation in the grant program, USAID HRS held a final conference "Primary Health Care Mission: Expanding Quality Services on the Road to Recovery", which brought together grantees and teams of 43 other primary health care facilities from different regions, representatives of the Ministry of Health, NHSU, USAID and other partners in Kyiv. The #event was attended by 129 participants from 19 regions of Ukraine, and the conference's online broadcast received over 2,500 views. The expert circle discussed the results of the fruitful 9-month #work of primary healthcare facilities and exchanged experience in expanding the range of services, deepening the knowledge of healthcare workers, developing a quality #management system in the facilities, and increasing human-centeredness in practice. During the second day of the conference, participants had the opportunity to visit five primary health care centers in Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast that participated in the #USAIDHRS grant program to network with colleagues, see and discuss real practical changes, and be inspired to #support the development of the entire primary health care network in Ukraine. #Ukraine #UA #USAID #support #supportforUkraine #Health #program #reform #recovery #conference #Kyiv #system #grant

It is time for the global health and humanitarian community to understand the association between the global outbreak of war/ethnic-cleansing/racism/capitalism/etc., the increased global distribution of weapons to young men, and the resulting global health impact on everyone (including oral). *Prevalence of craniofacial injuries in Africa and the Middle East due to militia/militarised violence against civilians using non-African weapons is most likely higher than any time before.* Global accessibility, adequacy, and affordability of oral care is most likely lower than any time before. In most countries, the majority of dentists can be found in regions where they can make more money, such as big cities, whereas people who live elsewhere, such as those living in rural regions, often tend to have way less access to oral health care, oral care products, oral health preventive mechanisms such as healthy dental public policies, and relevant services. Populations such as the population of Sudan, who are currently suffering in the globe’s largest mass displacement crisis due to Western/Middle Eastern-sponsored and heavily funded military/militia violence against civilians, and ethnic-cleansing of populations with African ethnicities such as Masalit, are also equally suffering in a global periodontal disease crisis due to stress and famine, with a high prevalence of craniofacial injuries due to armed violence. *Prevalence of untreated oral disease among the Sudanese population was very high before April 15th 2023, with significant public health challenges, including unfair distribution of dental health force, high demand VS low supply, among other things.* While wars generally seem to be linked to reduced (new) caries due to reduced sugary food/drink availability, many people living in wars and armed conflict areas are still dealing with their old untreated caries and illnesses, with no promises or plans of treatment or aid on their horizons. *Furthermore, stress remains linked to periodontal disease, and periodontal health remains linked to cardiovascular health.* In 1 year of war, the Sudanese population has dealt with a noticeable increase in prevalence of oral disease and heart disease, affecting even children and young women/men. This pressing public health issue remains massively under-studied by the health and research community. *The health (including oral) and humanitarian aid of Sudanese remains massively underfunded by the global community.* This is very unacceptable, especially when: - prices of oral health products keep increasing - global cost of living and health inequality keeps increasing - global prevalence of famine keeps increasing - accessibility and affordability of healthcare and healthy foods keeps decreasing - social, national, global safety, security and protection of civilians mechanisms keep failing - etc. #GlobalHealth #HealthInequality #OralHealth #DentalHealth #StopWar #LiberateSudan #OralHealthIsAHumanRight

Refining primary health care financing in Ukraine: examining provider costs and impact of war As part of the support for the ongoing health financing reforms in Ukraine, the report "Results of costing for provider payments in primary health care in Ukraine" provides a comprehensive cost analysis, offering valuable insights for recalculating and adjusting payments to PHC providers. The second report "Impact of the conflict on the costs of primary health care and investments in Ukraine" delves into survey results from providers, to assess the impact of the war on PHC providers across the country. The two reports, "Impact of the conflict on the costs of primary health care and investments in Ukraine: survey of war effects" and "Results of costing for provider payments in primary health care in Ukraine: technical report" received financial support from the Government of Canada and the United Nations Joint Sustainable Development Goals Fund. https://lnkd.in/ewzBZ6Hd #PublicHealth #Europe #StayInformed #StayEmpowered
