PM Modi breaking silence on Manipur real victory for opposition: Congress

NEW DELHI: Congress on Thursday said that PM Narendra Modi breaking his silence on Manipur violence after "one and a half years" is a "victory for the opposition".
"He didn't speak anything about Manipur for the last one and a half years. Finally, yesterday (Wednesday) he broke his silence on Manipur. It is a real victory for the opposition," AICC general secretary KC Venugopal said.
Venugopal said that the opposition disrupted proceedings in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday due to the government's refusal to allocate five minutes for an MP from Manipur to speak before PM Modi's response to the motion of thanks on the President's address.
"They were not ready, and that's why the ruckus started," he said.
PM Modi on Wednesday said that Congress should 'stop politicising' the Manipur issue.
"Today, schools, colleges, offices and other institutions are open in the state. The Central and the state govt are talking to all stakeholders to restore peace," he said.
"The Union home minister stayed there for many weeks. Central govt is extending all cooperation to Manipur to tackle the ongoing flood situation in the state. Today, two teams of NDRF have reached Manipur. I warn those who are trying to add the fuel to fire will be rejected by Manipur. Congress had imposed President's rule in Manipur 10 times," he added.
Since May 3 last year, tensions in Manipur have persisted due to clashes during a protest rally organized by the All Tribals Students Union (ATSU) against the inclusion of the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe category.
