Justice Sarangi of Orissa HC is now CJ of Jharkhand HC
Ranchi: Justice B R Sarangi, the seniormost judge of Orissa high court, has been appointed Chief Justice of Jharkhand HC. He will take oath on July 5.
Justice Sarangi, who will retire on July 20, will fill up the post which has been lying vacant since Dec 28, 2023.
The notification issued by Union ministry of law & justice on Wednesday said, “In exercise of the powers conferred by Clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Dr Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi, judge high court of Orissa, to be Chief Justice of High Court of Jharkhand, with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.”
Justice Sarangi was elevated from the Bar to the bench as a permanent judge of the Orissa HC on June 20, 2013.

The office of the chief justice of Jharkhand HC fell vacant after former Chief Justice Sanjaya Kumar Mishra superannuated from office on December 28, 2023.
Justice Shree Chandrashekhar took over as the acting Chief Justice of the Jharkhand HC thereafter from January 2024.
