Mukesh Kumar, an 18-year-old from Bihar, completed his 10th grade and enrolled in the Arts stream for 11th grade. To support his studies, he moved to Bangalore one year ago, where he works as a Delivery Partner for Zomato. Mukesh returns to Bihar for exams and festivals, balancing his education with his job in Bangalore. He has an elder brother who also works as a delivery rider for Swiggy, while his parents run a small hotel in Bihar, serving authentic North Indian cuisine. Although Mukesh aspires to secure a government job after completing his education, he has some doubts about his ability to succeed in that competitive field. As a result, he feels more comfortable with private sector jobs, particularly those involving fieldwork. During our conversation, Mukesh explained that he earns between Rs 20 and Rs 35 per order, depending on the distance, and completes 35-40 deliveries a day. For the rainy season, the company provides him with a raincoat and mobile cover for Rs 100 with additional monetary benefits. Mukesh rents an electric scooter for Rs 200 per day, which he finds very convenient for covering the 150 kilometers he rides daily. Charging the portable battery is easy, as charging points are readily available throughout the city. Mukesh is able to support his family, fund his education, and sustain his living expenses in Bangalore with his earnings. He expressed contentment with his current situation. #risersofindia #staffingsolutions #hiring

Syed Afsar, a 45-year-old business owner from Bangalore, has navigated numerous challenges throughout his entrepreneurial journey. Alongside his brother, Syed began his venture in Mysore, selling silk sarees for a decade. Unfortunately, this business proved unprofitable, prompting their relocation to Bangalore. In Bangalore, they established a small kirana (grocery) store in Koramangala, which they have operated for the past 25 years. They rent the store and have a well-organized distribution network, sourcing staple items from Yeshwanthpur and snacks from various small distributors who visit their shop. Their business flourished until 2021, when the rise of online markets disrupted their operations. The growing popularity of online shopping led to a decline in demand for physical stores like theirs. Additionally, retaining workers became challenging as delivery jobs offered better pay and more convenience compared to working in a store. When asked about using online wholesale platforms, Syed explained that they had never explored this option due to concerns about high commission charges and the perceived risks involved. This highlights a significant knowledge gap that, if addressed, could potentially help their business grow. Syed and his brother also considered opening a dark store but faced challenges related to sourcing products, managing expiry dates, and maintaining an appropriate range of products. Previously, their products sold within ten days, but now items remain unsold for a month, leading to expiry issues and uncooperative distributors who refuse to help clear the unsold stock. Faced with these challenges and ongoing losses, both brothers have decided to close their current business. Despite this setback, they are determined to start anew and not give up. *The owners preferred not to share their photos for the post. #risersofindia #kiranasofindia

Amarjit, a 24-year-old from Bihar, only completed his education upto the 10th grade. His journey began at his parent's pan shop, where he learned the value of hard work and perseverance. Seeking new experiences, Amarjit left Bihar for Hyderabad, where he joined Rapido as a Delivery Rider. For five years, he navigated the busy streets. His next stop was Delhi, where he became an Auto Driver, navigating the chaotic streets and enjoying spontaneous conversations with passengers. Then, in Mumbai, he worked as a Pizza Delivery Rider, learning the importance of teamwork in a bustling kitchen. Meanwhile, his brother was working in another city, and the distance made them both feel homesick. They frequently travelled home to Bihar and realized how much they missed each other and their family. One day, his brother suggested they reunite in Bangalore. Excited by the idea, Amarjit agreed. In Bangalore, the brothers found a small apartment and started working with Blinkit as delivery riders. They explored the city together, discovering hidden gems and local eateries. Their favourite pastime was riding to Nandi Hills, enjoying the serene escape and having hot idlis on their way back. In Bangalore, Amarjit and his brother found a sense of belonging and solace in each other’s company and were driven by their shared dream of buying a home and a car for their parents. Despite the distance, they frequently travelled back to Bihar, staying connected to their family. Their journey, marked by challenges and new beginnings, was a testament to their resilience and the unbreakable bond of family. #risersofindia #staffingsolutions #hiring

We were standing near Bandhan Bank, waiting to gather stories from delivery riders, when we coincidentally met Bandhan Debanat, a 30-year-old delivery rider from Tripura. Bandhan studied in Tripura until the 12th grade and played cricket at the state level. However, after his father suffered a stroke and passed away, Bandhan had to abandon his studies and cricket aspirations to support his family financially. In 2013, he moved to Bangalore. Bandhan began his career as a security guard at a famous mall in Bangalore, where he worked for two years. He left due to the verbally abusive environment, despite his dedication and long hours. Searching for a new direction, Bandhan joined Accenture as a driver. This job came with its own set of challenges, particularly the high risk and stress associated with driving the company car and navigating Bangalore's heavy traffic. Fearing any mistakes that could jeopardize his position, he eventually decided to leave this role as well. Determined to be his own boss, Bandhan joined Swiggy as a delivery rider. He bought a bike, underwent three days of training provided by the company, and started his new career. Over a year has passed, and he is now steadily working and saving for his future business plans. When asked about his future goals, Bandhan shared that he aims to return to Tripura within a year to open a kids' clothing shop. He plans to source materials from West Bengal, Delhi, and Mumbai, and manage the shop with his wife. Although Bandhan wishes to play cricket again, his current schedule restricts him from pursuing this passion. Yet, his story is one of hope and the strength it takes to navigate life's unpredictable paths. #risersofindia #staffingsolutions #hiring

There is no shortage of jobs in the E-Comm sectors across various operational roles in all cities. We see and experience this every day. Our supply network is congested with open positions that are difficult to fill due to a shortage of labor. Scaling warehouses and the supply chain, in general, is very challenging. As the E-commerce sector continues to grow, we anticipate a pressing need for effective retention strategies in the coming years, underscoring the importance of employee engagement and satisfaction. #Ecommerce #JobOpportunities #SupplyChain #WarehouseJobs #LaborShortage #EmployeeEngagement #RetentionStrategies #WorkforceDevelopment #EmployeeSatisfaction #CareerGrowth #TalentAcquisition #ScalingChallenges
