Linkedin = Mumbai Local 🚃 You'd think what is the relation?! Well, those who live in Mumbai, and travel the Mumbai local may relate to this better. You leave home at a fixed time to catch the 7.20am wali Churchgate F or Bandra Slow from the same platform of Borivali, Kandivali or whichever may be your nearest station. You almost have a fixed seat unless a newbie has taken it over. You see the same faces everyday and you have made your Local friend circle too. You bring food, books or other stuff for each other. You share your work stories with each other. Some get off at the same destination and they have a ritual of having a chai before going to the office. And the same continues for the return journey. You may not personally know the people but you know the faces and you have a practice of greeting each other. Similarly, Linkedin has recently started making me feel similar. I see the same faces everyday. We support each others posts and comment. We share ideas, visions. We share stories. Some are acquaintances, some who I have had meetings with. Some have become colleagues or we have done business together. And there are some who have become friends. All this happened since I started posting regularly at a fixed time on a daily basis. It's like I am on my train for the day. Yesterday, I didn't post at my usual 1pm time and it feels like I was on leave. 😂 But here I am again today. Greetings to my fellow commuters. “Life Changing moments" these three words come to my mind when I think of our Sales Kick off Conference at Philadelphia. Overwhelmed & fully charged after meeting the wonderful WorldStrides team. Exactly a year back when I moved from India, I was in ambiguity. Missing what was built during previous tenure. I was focused on what I wanted to do in the field of Higher Education, however the transitioning phase brings lots of ambiguity, I believe so. The only inspiration was my mother's words: "This world is full of opportunity" Something better is waiting for you! 🙂 My mother could never go to high school, but she holds great experience learned during different stages of her life. Eventually her learning from experience helped her become successful in the life journey performing many duties as any Ideal India daughter in law does. Today, I felt she was right. Though her saying was in the local language, the translated version is "This world is full of opportunity". We speak Bhojpuri at home, Patna, Bihar) After a successful 10 months with #WorldStrides, achieving some milestones, making new friends, colleagues, leaders, I feel this was such a great move. For many years after moving to Delhi, I thought this city was the land of opportunity. Some say Mumbai is. It didn’t matter. Delhi was IT for me. However, as I look back today, I realised that it is not. There is no land of opportunity, really. 🤷♀️ In this global, very web-and-well-connected world, the power of getting your next big gig lies in your hands. Does location matter? Sure, it does! However, it only matters to those who have the WILL to show up for anything offline. In my experience as an #Entrepreneur, I have hired professionals from the city (and those not, also) only to realise that they are comfortable in their posh bungalows, with their Daddy’s money and high power. Sure, my father had power and connections, but I am happy that he threw me in the wild, like a child learning how to ride a bicycle. He was there, but I was on my own. When I landed in Delhi, I wanted to "make it" on my own. Whatever that meant. I wanted to know what I was about. I was super under confident, to be honest. This came from the fact that I was never good at anything in school. Just an above average student. Top that with the fact that I passed out from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Dinjan — a small town in Assam. A lot has changed since I arrived in this city in 2010. That 18 year old and this 31 year old are very different individuals, sure. However, there are some things that have not changed — the biggest being: Seeking Opportunities To Grow. Many-a-times, those opportunities were hidden — I found them. Sometimes, it was about general networking where one thing/person led to another, and I found myself at the right place at the right time, saying YES. Sometimes, great opportunities have come when I’ve said NO. It has provided space for growth and bigger opportunities. My BEST: Over time, my creative mind couldn’t find things that “floated my boat” — so I just got fed up and CREATED the opportunities! Sometimes you need to get your foot in the door. Sometimes you need to build the door. Build that opportunity. City doesn’t matter. Nothing does. Sometimes, you have to build it alone, and yes, everyone beside you starts "moving ahead" — and that’s okay. Remember, this is your journey, your life, your dreams — you must go at your pace. You will make it. What’s better? My 1 week City life Experience in Hyderabad👨💻🥹 - City will surprise u if ur a small town person, u'll get fascinated seeing bustling city life with hi-tech infrastructure. - But u'll become complacent to this glamorous city life and soon will get self-centred nd focussed on ur Job. u won't even care about these stuff later - Rent is really high af if ur looking to stay near office, a huge chunk of ur salary is spent on living a life equivalent to a normal life back at home - You may face language barrier at some places and might feel alienated👽 but that's rare as u'll find so many Hindi speakers, plus local ppl are super helpful except few(had an incident that's y) - Its hard to make friends if ur moving alone, fortunately not for me I know a good no. of ppl since few months so its cool here. - Only and most imp thing with which u won't find peace is Food😭. That's the biggest problem if u love ur mom's handmade food😍, u may upset ur stomach in every few days if ur not careful about what u feed urself. - You'll miss your home more often, u'll feel alone and bored sometime, in order to avoid that some ppl may start going to club, start drinking and smoking to espace this situation(avoid that if psbl). - It maybe hard for u to manage everything on ur own at first, u may get overwhelmed by the responsibilities and regular routine but believe me that's part of adulting. - U'll learn so many things in this journey, if ur finding it difficult to manage in a new city, take it as a challenge, remember ur small achievements and sacrifices which u made to be where ur rn and u won't let that slip away just cuz of initial hurdles right? Namma Bangalore: A Beacon of Hope Lets not exploit big cities, especially those that serve as the lifeline of INDIA, such as Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi etc. Many individuals from smaller towns and villages migrate to these cities to pursue job opportunities or launch their own businesses. After a few months or years, they often find success in securing a good job or achieving a breakthrough with their company. However, it is disheartening to see the same individuals begin exploiting the city through excessive consumption. As humans, our basic needs are food, clothing, and shelter. While it's okay to aspire for a bigger house, good food, and a luxury car, we must be mindful not to overindulge in excessive consumption. Buying multiple homes and cars specially in Bangalore can lead to overconsumption, as Bangalore Infrastructure doesn't support that. The issue arises when we begin to think I exerted great effort and participated in numerous late-night meetings. I believe I deserve to indulge in the fruits of my labor, these individuals engage in excessive consumption. If one possesses an attitude of gratitude, the Bangalore ecosystem aided me in securing a job. The competitive nature of Bangalore motivated me to work diligently. I owe my current status to Bangalore; therefore, it is imperative that we refrain from overconsumption and exploiting the Bangalore ecosystem. Utilize public transportation to the fullest extent possible and refrain from purchasing multiple properties in Bangalore. Live a modest lifestyle in Bangalore. If one strategically plans their financial calculations while residing in big cities for 10-15 years, they can potentially accumulate enough wealth to comfortably transition to smaller cities for the next 30-40 years, provided they choose to live a simpler lifestyle. A simple life gives birth to more clarity, inner peace and meaningful relationships. I stayed in Noida and Bangalore for a period of 12 years, spanning from 2010 to 2022. Throughout my tenure, I utilized public transportation and relied on a bicycle to commute from my rented 1bhk house to the metro station. I had enough money to purchase a bike /car or even own a house in Bangalore, but I made a conscious decision not to not exploit Bangalore. Until we truly see Bangalore, Mumbai, and Delhi as our nurturing Mother, we will continue to exploit her resources without gratitude. A mother finds contentment in sharing her possessions with her children. Mother Bangalore is taking care of us in the same way. Let's lead a simple life in Bangalore and save Mother Bangalore for the future generation.

Getting your first job is supposed to be the happiest moment of your life. But instead of celebrating on this day, I was crying instead. Not because I didn’t get a good opportunity, but because my fiancé and I both got great jobs… on different sides of the country. We had tried our best to find opportunities in the same city, but it hadn’t worked out. I’d been placed in Mumbai, and she was 2000 km away in a town in West Bengal, so we would have to go our separate ways. A small part of me just wanted to move to with her, and figure it out. Even if I didn’t get a good position, I could tough it out for a few years. But I knew this wasn’t realistic. We couldn’t speak on the phone on the day we found out. We met in a small cafe, and Divya silently started sobbing. “We’ll have to be apart for at least 5 years Manan, is this it for us?” - she had asked, her voice all choked up. I didn’t have the answer, but tried to smile through the tears and assured her we would be okay. To be honest, there were still doubts in my mind, and I had no idea how these 5 years would go. But we both decided to prioritise our careers, and try out a long-distance relationship. It was probably one of the hardest things we’ve ever done, but between late night work-dates and cross country trips to see each other, we made it work. We got married in the middle of all this, but had to live in separate cities for 2 years after our marriage again. Now, we've finally EARNED the chance to live together happily. Mixing your career and relationships is never a good idea. But sometimes, life doesn’t give you a choice. I knew I had found the one, and worked hard for 5 years to make it work out, without sacrificing either of our careers. Was it painful? Yes. But would I do it all over again if I had to? Without a doubt. Because some things in life are irreplaceable. If you ever have to pick between your career and your personal life, remember that you CAN have both. My first post-grad job was installing lifts on the 28th floor of a new building. No fancy lifts back then, just stairs and sweat. The company was new in India, and things weren't exactly smooth. Frustrated and yearning for a better fit, I left. Next, I dove into the world of software in Bangalore. But the early 2000s internet was a beast, and SaaS was barely a glimmer in the eye. Unfortunately, the company couldn't weather the storm and shut down. For years, I explored different industries, searching for that "click" moment. Finally, automation called to me, and I found VDeal Systems in Odisha. It wasn't easy – major setbacks, especially during COVID, threatened to derail us. But we persevered, fueled by relentless passion and hard work. Looking back, those early stumbles were crucial stepping stones.
