At NYU, Student Success is committed to ensuring that every student can access the support, resources, and information to flourish and succeed. Through these initiatives, we actively promote the university’s core priorities of student retention, graduation, progression, and persistence.

Provide Targeted and Personalized Student Support

Our team of Student Success Specialists provides proactive, holistic support for key undergraduate student populations. We use data and assessment to find students at key transitional and educational moments in their NYU journey to provide them with the proper resources and support.

Support can look different based on the individual needs and interests of the student. Student Success Specialists work one-on-one with students to help them address any academic concerns or barriers to their holistic success, including (but not limited to):

  • Navigating social, personal, and professional transitions
  • Referring to campus resources that promote their short- and long-term success
  • Finding community and establishing holistic support systems that best support their individualized needs and identities
  • Developing study skills and strategies
  • Fostering an encouraging environment to clarify and reach their educational goals

Undergraduate students can create an appointment with a Student Success Specialist through NYU Connect. Graduate students can request an appointment by emailing studentsuccess@nyu.edu.

Create Data-Informed Insights

Leveraging data helps inform our work, answer tough questions, and drive targeted action. Our team continuously utilizes student and campus information to develop effective programs, make policy and practice recommendations, and drive outreach that supports our campus community. Additionally, we oversee several student surveys, which help us understand the student experience first-hand so we can create change to support it.

The Center for Student Success Insights (CSSI) conducts undergraduate student data analysis, research, and assessment of student success priorities. This includes progression, grading practices, retention, graduation, and more. We aim to provide our campus partners with the data and context they need to drive purposeful action at central and local levels.

Ensure Student Flourishing Through Innovative Programming

Innovative programming is pivotal in fostering student success, providing a unique learning experience tailored to our student’s needs and aspirations. Some examples of our programming include:

The NYU Summer Success program is a six-week summer living-learning initiative designed by Student Success that supports persistence, credit accumulation, and rate of progress toward timely graduation amongst a select group of NYU first-year students early in their academic careers - at little to no cost to the student. Participants retain and make progress at much higher rates than similar peers.

NYU Financial Education offers numerous events, workshops, and resources that empower students to make sound fiscal decisions regardless of their financial background. These include one-on-one coaching, presentations, and our annual Game of Life event.

The Texts for Success campaign sends crucial reminders, tips, and support to first- and second-year students at critical moments during their year. Students can respond to these messages at any time to speak with a member of the Student Success team.

Student Success supports NYU's veteran and military-connected students through case management, outreach, and general advocacy. We ensure their success and flourishing as they transition to life as NYU students, navigate administrative processes, and build community among their peers.

Embrace Technology

Student Success uses technology to comprehensively support our student’s needs in and outside the classroom. Leveraging business transformation, process improvement, and project management skills, we propose strategic processes using NYU’s systems to foster student success and support the university's retention and graduation goals. 

The Systems and Operations team manages NYU Connect, a platform for students, advisors, faculty, and student services to find and share information in one place. NYU Connect hosts key student success indicators and resources such as advisor appointments, tutoring, midterm progress reporting, and other functionalities that help to shorten the distance between students and those who can support them.

Collaborate Across Campus

Our office leads several committees, working groups, and events to collaborate with our university partners. Together, we identify and assess operational needs and brainstorm solutions for crucial university and industry challenges. One example is the Standing Committee on Student Success, which comprises representatives from all corners of the university.
