Surveys for Success

NYU students, we want to hear from you! Understanding your college expectations and experiences helps us tailor our support to serve you best. Our surveys are a quick and easy way for you to tell us how you're doing, what you’re expecting, and what NYU can do to improve.

Our Center for Student Success Insights (CSSI) administers our surveys. We use the results to advocate on your behalf for improvements to the student experience at NYU. Please reach out to cssi@nyu.edu with any questions. We're here to listen, support, and make your time at NYU as fulfilling as possible.

NYU Incoming Student Survey

The NYU Incoming Student Survey is an opportunity for students to share their expectations for college, habits and experiences, and what influenced their college choice — essential insights that will shape their NYU journey.

The NYU Incoming Student Survey is for undergraduate, bachelors-seeking, first-year, and external transfer students associated with the New York City campus. Students will receive an invitation to take the survey.

Am I required to take this survey?

No, you are not required to take the NYU Incoming Student Survey. However, your answers help NYU and your support network provide a more personalized student experience.

Who will see my answers?

We will only share your answers with your NYU support network: your academic advisor(s), Student Affairs staff, and those who provide academic or extracurricular services to support you. For example, your advisor may discuss your college expectations during a one-on-one advising appointment, or you may receive information about writing support on campus if you are concerned about your writing ability.

How long does it take to complete the survey?

Less than 10 minutes.

How can I take the survey?

Incoming students will receive email invitations to take the survey starting June 2024.

National Survey of Student Engagement

(Spring 2023)

NYU Student Experience Survey

(Fall 2022, Fall 2023)

We administered the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) to first-year and senior students. The NSSE collected information about participation in programs and activities that NYU provides for their learning and personal development. By pairing the NYU Student Experience Survey and NSSE, we can understand the overall student engagement on our campus.

We invited incoming first-year students to take the NYU Student Experience Survey. The survey allowed them to share their expectations for college, habits, experiences, and what influenced their college choice. Their answers allowed NYU to personalize their college experience by guiding them to the resources and opportunities they cared about.

Student Voice Series

(Fall 2020, Spring 2021)

As higher education adapted to a new reality due to COVID-19, NYU was committed to ensuring that the student voice remains at the center of all we do. To help make that possible, the University developed the Student Voice Series to periodically check in with students, regardless of location, and learn more about their NYU experience and unique needs. The Student Voice Series' goals were to understand better the obstacles our students were facing and then help them navigate and find timely support.

First Year Survey

(Fall 2019, Spring 2020)

The NYU First Year Survey, administered at the start of the Fall semester, helped us gain insight into our incoming first-year students’ habits and expectations of college before they start school. The NYU First Year Check-In Survey, administered in the Spring semester, touched base with those students about their experiences to help us assess their personal and academic development since entering NYU.
