Pleasant stay in a quiet hotel in good location

Reviewed Jan 6, 2024via mobile
Very pleasant stay. We had a standard room on the ground floor in the block adjacent to the main hotel. Our room was quite large (#322) compared to others we saw. It was mostly quiet although all the security doors are really noisy. Some guests had their TVs loud.
The pool is small but ideal and never crowded. The breakfasts were good value and we enjoyed the Happy Hour at the poolside bar. It's a very short walk to the beach. Great views from the terrace.
We had an enjoyable stay. The staff are helpful and it was a relaxed atmosphere. Short walk to cheap eats (Daddy's & Paddy Power) & to the bars of St Lawrence Gap. Can't complain!

Stayed here as couple over the Christmas period.
Location- hotel is situated at the end of St Lawrence gap, so it’s nice and quiet. It’s next to a beautiful beach. Bars & restaurants are a 10 minute walk.
Accommodation- room has everything you need. Comfy bed. Air conditioning. Balcony. It’s pretty basic but very clean.
Pool area- never had a problem getting a lounger by the pool or at the sea terrace. Food and drinks available.
What makes this place special in my opinion is the bajan hospitality. The owners/ management went out of their way to ensure that we were made to feel special and welcome during our stay. I would highly recommend this hotel if you’re looking for Barbados on a budget.

The prices are high on Barbados, and I am not sure you can get a better option than what you get here. First off: they don’t have sun chairs on the beach, just on their terrace and by the pool - which surprised me for a beach hotel. The rooms are pretty worn down, though the bed is nice, and it is clean. There are a lot of noise in the room, from the fridge and every time any doors closes in the hallway or to the main building, you wake up if you are a light sleeper. The staff is mostly friendly, though not super service minded.

Dear SaraE

Thank you for your recent visit to Barbados and to Dover Beach Hotel Yes , Barbados is indeed a very expensive place, however there are many places where you can eat at reasonable prices. Please note that on request, sun chaises are t sun chaises are allowed on the beach on a gaily basis. The request is necessary due to the fact that the current can rapidly change and this would give us time to retrieve them before they are washed away. We do have a beautiful sun deck overlooking the sea where you can relax in comfort

With regards to the rooms please note that we are continuously upgrading the property in order to remain competitive and to serve our customers better. We asked our guest to make a report if they are experiencing any problems in thier room so that they can be corrected in a timely manner.

We are not a fancy hotel but our aim is to provide good customer service.

Thank you once again and all the best to you.

The Dover Beach hotel is marketed as a budget hotel and this is what to expect.
I was there as a solo traveler and my room was in one of the two annexe buildings.
Room was large with separate shower room. It had a fridge (which had seen better days) a microwave and tv. Rooms were cleaned daily and bed linen changed twice weekly. Room was always left clean and tidy by the service staff.
I ate regularly in the hotel restaurant which also covers as the bar area and the staff there were most attentive. Two for one happy hours at lunch and dinner.
Speaking to other guests it would appear that the rooms in the main hotel building have been updated and I hope that this is continued to the annex’s.
Small pool area and direct access to the beach was a plus.
5-10 minute walk to St. Lawrence Gap with plenty bars and restaurants.

Stayed here for a week at the end of October. The hotel is in a lovely position at the very end of the Gap which makes it quiet. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The rooms were cleaned daily with towels replaced when necessary. The new pool in the garden was lovely. The staff in the restaurant were very accommodating and looked after us well.
Negatives - the main pool area needed a good tidy up, there were glasses around the pool wall that were there all week. All of the sunbeds need replacing as most were damaged.
Monday 30th Oct the garden pool was closed for a private party, we went to sit by it and were told we couldn’t.
The room next to us 121 was used for the children who were running riot in there when it rained, trying to enter our room thru the connecting door and generally screaming and shouting while we were trying to rest before going out for the evening. Firmly believe they should have not had a room used like this next to paying guests. The adult supervision was non existent!
The next day, Tuesday, at the same time the hotel staff turned up to clean up from the party the day before, once again the noise was so loud from shouting staff, scraping of chairs and tables, no regard for us in adjoining room, we really couldn’t believe the noise two days in a row.
Overall the hotel needs bringing up to the same standards as others in the area. Enjoyed our week but wouldn’t choose this hotel again unless it was updated.
