We stayed for 5 weeks from January 1st and enjoyed everyday. We had a pool side room which was perfectly adequate for doing breakfasts and evening meals should you wish. If we did not go out we had our food from the SeaGrape bar just 20mts away which was good and reasonably priced.
The girls from the bar deserve a special mention, Krystal, Safari and Maria. A very very special mention for Melissa. Two happy hours a day with the 12.00 to 13.00 being my favourite time of the day.
Plenty of sun beds and umbrellas around the pool. Really nice sun deck next to the sea with many canopy beds although this does get busy. The hotel staff would help carry sun beds down to the beach next the hotel if you like sand and wanted a bit more space.
The reception ladies and Jeremy always spoke as you walked past and had a great smile at all times.
Managers rum/fruit punch and sandwiches every Tuesday which encouraged you meet and talk to other residents. The manager Marcia was often walking around the hotel areas to ensure everything was correct.
Cannot wait until next January when we will be back.

We had booked through British airways which included a standard room, so we did contact the hotel to upgrade to a sea view in the Calais building as we would not of been happy to not see and listen to the sea from our balcony. Our first night the air con in our room did not work our hearts sank we were so hot and thought great start to our hols. I reported it to reception at 7 am and by the time we had eaten breakfast it was fixed we were very impressed at the prompt action. We wanted to hire a car so reception organised it for us.Our room was basic and could probably do with an update but cleanliness and friendly staff are more important to us and at Dover beach you got that from everyone. We ate some of our meals in the hotel, breakfast could be a bit slow but the food was lovely. Dover Beach hotel is set in a perfect location, access to the beach, far enough away from the main road to not hear traffic noise but close enough to walk to to get a ZR mini buses that runs between Bridgetown and Oistins just put your hand out when they toot and pay 3.50 Barbados dollars great fun. There is a shop close by and its an easy walk to St Lawrence Gap for bars and restaurants. There are plenty of sun beds, laying on the terrace looking out to sea was our favourite. You can't swim right next to the hotel because of the current but you can in the other half of the beach or in front of Sandels Hotel.I would defiantly return to Dover Beach and would highly recommend we had a fantastic peaceful holiday.

Dear Julie, Thank you for your glowing review. We love that you appreciated our cleanliness and friendly staff. It's so important for us to ensure that service and our hotel standards are to everyone's satisfaction. Simple moments, as you mentioned like fixing the air conditioning with haste, are what can put a smile on a guest's face and we're happy that you left with smiles and a willingness to return for another beautiful Dover Beach experience.

Comfortable, affordable hotel. The staff is super friendly, cheerful, and helpful. We had a garden view room which is a 5 second walk to the pool, bar/restaurant,and beach. The rooms are perfect for the price. Ate lunch here and the food was good. Drinks are good as well and the bartender Safari is a lovely girl. Loved the location of this hotel. There is a small grocery/convenience store that is a quick 5 minute walk that allows you to fill up your fridge with the essentials you need for a fun vacation. There is beach access from the hotel but no chairs provided on beach so bring something to lay on the sand. This beach next to the hotel had amazing waves and if you walk a little further down you are on the public beach access of Sandals resort. There is a beach area within a 5 minute walk down the gap that you can rent chairs and has bars and restaurants around. We walked the Gap almost every night for dinner and felt safe. There are plenty of taxis available if you don't feel like walking back after dinner. And go to the Fish Fry on Friday night!! Don't be afraid to use the buses. We rented a car (also a 5-10 minute walk away) for $115 US for 24 hours and had an amazing day exploring the island. Barbados is an amazing, beautiful, hospitable country so book your trip!

Spent an enjoyable Christmas at this hotel in the one bedroom garden view apartment. The apartment was well stocked with kitchen equipment, a cooker with oven and a microwave. The bedroom had air con. Apartment cleaned daily. Staff were friendly and helpful. Complimentary rum punch. Hotel near to the bus stops to Bridgetown and Oistins. I had an enjoyable stay. This was my second stay at this hotel.

Stayed at Dover Beach Hotel as a large family group over Christmas and had a wonderful time. The hotel is not the most modern or glitzy on the island but offers great hospitality in an incredibly relaxing environment right on the beach. The team are all incredibly friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The pool although quite small is all you need when you have such an incredible beach nearby and the bar/restaurant is perfect for drinks and meals throughout the day. Happy Hour Rum Punches are 2 for 1 which was a great way to start the evening off and you can walk to St Lawrence Gap easily where all the nightlife is. We would definitely return to the hotel and would recommend it to anyone who wants to relax and unwind whilst enjoying fantastic Bajan hospitality. Final mention must go to Maria in the bar who was a real star! Thank you Dover Beach Hotel.

I'm not sure why this hotel gets such terrible reviews. We thought it was brilliant! The staff were always friendly towards us. The room was clean and tidy (and cleaned daily during our stay) with plenty of wardrobe space and drawers. The shower was hot and powerful at all times and the bathroom had toiletries and a hairdryer. Our room was in a quiet block within the hotel complex and we rarely heard a sound from other rooms. The pool looked lovely although we didn't swim in it because they had sun beds up on a raised part of the the pool which overlooked a stunning beach and the sea. There's a little cut-through to the beach at the end of the pool area and there was always plenty of beds available around the pool. The bar was great - they had some good snacks available and twice daily happy hour for drinks. And the hotel was close to a number of bars and restaurants and about a 20 minute walk to the Gap. My only small issue was that the hotel charged for the use of the room safe. It was only 3 Barbados dollars per day, but still I don't think guests should have to pay for a safe in this day and age. We stayed for seven nights at The Dover Beach Hotel and won't hesitate to stay again when we return to Barbados in the future. Thank you for a fantastic holiday.

We have just returned from the Dover Beach Hotel, where we celebrated our 25th Wedding anniversary. We arrived on the Saturday, having advised the hotel via e mail that we were the for our anniversary, and were given room 424, which was what we had booked. On entering the room, they had fashioned the towels into 2 swans and rose petals in the shape of a heart on the bed. Very nice. The room was ok, air conditioning worked well, there was a kitchenette which we made good use of, the bathroom was a good size, the shower worked well. We had a view of the sea over a large lawn and garden area. The staff were on the whole friendly, although seemed to make more of a fuss with some guest's than others. Well situated at St Lawrence Gap, enough out of the way to be quiet, but only a few minutes walk to the bars and eateries. Easy access to the beach. Smallish pool, needed a bit of tlc, there was a green ring around the waterline, and the pool deck was quite damaged and uncomfortable to walk on. Overall, a good 3 star hotel.
THE WARNING
We traveled with BA Holidays, but this hotel also deals with a company that provides sports tours. On the Thursday (6th day of our 10 day holiday), a group of 52, 13 - 17 year olds, plus teachers arrived. This is a small hotel, they were by far the majority of guests staying there at this point. There were 12 rooms in our block, 11 were occupied by this party, the children were 4 to a room. The following morning the garden outside was occupied by them playing music and chatting before 6am. When they were at the pool, it was so noisy and it was chaos. To be fair, the teachers came and spoke to us, kept them in check as much as they could, and we don't have any issues with the children or teachers.
We complained to BA, who contacted the hotel to express our concerns. The hotel manager, Marcia, then contacted me by phone in our room to say that they would "monitor things" . This was after having walked past us twice the hour before when she could have spoken to us face to face. There was no evidence of any monitoring, nor did they seem concerned in any way or offer anything in compensation at the hotel.
We understand that business is business, and you need to fill rooms, but you also need to decide the market you are aiming at, as you can't please everyone in this situation. We spoke with 2 couples who have both been going to the hotel for a number of years, both said they were going to speak to Marcia regarding the disruption, one of the couples said they had been going for 6 years, but would not be going back again.
I think this is a fair review, had this incident not happened, the hotel would have scored at least 4, possibly 5, but I feel it is a weak 3 based on our experience.
My gauge is always, "would I go back", but feel in this case a definite No.

Do not stay here! Gross food, awful staff, can’t sleep due to bed and noise, pool is old and flooring around pool kills your feet. Hard to get towels, toilet paper, beach towels. They want to charge for everything and tell you right away as you check in. The sun deck area is deceiving. The property is not on the beach and you have to pay to rent chairs that are a rough walk away. The gym is a joke. The service in the one restaurant is so slow and the food was so bad.

We understand the freedom to post reviews and we encourage all our guests to do so no matter how good or poor the content . We also know that all properties get bad reviews at times and we have been there with full understanding and empathy. We have, however, reported and challenged this review, which is a first for us, as we were threatened that it would be done if we did not take certain action. We encourage others to read the numerous reviews posted on this platform, some excellent, some good, and some not so good, and make a fair assessment of the validity of the comments.

This is our tenth year coming back to this little gem of a hotel. Situated in Christ Church parish in St Lawrence gap. We love the location as there are restaurants, little shops and bars all walking distance. Family owned and the staff makes us feel like family when we return each year. The hotel has partial kitchens in units which make it possible to do some of our own meals but they also have a very nice little restaurant on site with reasonably priced and tasty meals for when we are feeling lazy.
This is not a fancy hotel but it is lovingly maintained, cleaned and safe. Every year we arrive to find little changes and upgrades. We would not think of going elsewhere and very much recommend it. Looking forward to next year!

We decided to have our wedding anniversary with Dover hotel this year. It was a sad idea. The room was not fully equipped missing pleasantries such forks, sponge for dishes, clean floors and a few more. Check in was late due to the hotel not having the room available for us and forced us to wait two hours and a half hours after the check-in time. On check out this time was not honored back to us.

All said was made up for as we focused on the positives with friendly house keepers, security and maintenance ( our toilet over flowed). The working a/c unit was a bonus easing the pressure of our the climate and for a relaxing indoor experience.

Unfortunately the A/c experience was not enough.. our 16 inch TV with five channels was also not enough to drown out the wild and loud behavior of the guests the put us next to. The hotel allowed children birthday parties next to our room. The nights were equally dreadful with loud noises until early morning hours till 2 am and became again at 6. The hotel of course took no notice to these concerns.

The stay was a waste for us and cause us to lose sleep in such a noisy motel like atmosphere. We won't be choosing Dover Hotel again! This ruined our 6 year Anniversary away from the kids! Sometimes paying more for your comfort is better.
