Decided to stay at the Howard Johnson as it was close to where we wanted to be and seemed like a decent price. This hotel is presently being renovated upstairs and is becoming a Travelodge. At 6:00 am workers started making loud noises and woke me and my husband (who said it sounded like throwing and dragging of extension cords) and they continued walking around above us and started working. We tried banging on the roof in the room and bathroom but nothing happened. After an hour of not being able to get back to sleep (just not the way we wanted to start holidays) we had to call the lobby and the noise stopped right away but only for an hour. Unfortunately, we were too awake by then to be able to fall back asleep quickly enough before the work started back up. There was no shampoo or body wash in the wall units in the bathroom (only one very very small bottle of shampoo and one small bar of soap by the sink) there was no Kleenex and no coffee pot, no pen or paper, no bible, no pamphlets or information for restaurants or attractions for the area in the room, the dead bolt didn't work, but the fridge was a very nice size, stainless steel, clean and looked fairly new. Continental breakfast was a waste unless all you want is toast with PB and/or J. There were English muffins but not even butter or anything else for them. There was a waffle maker but it was not turned on (or working - we didn't bother with it). Juice machine only worked one day and one older apple was sitting there each day and was the only fruit available until a small bunch of underripe bananas finally showed. Ice machine is locked up so don't forget to get ice before you go out too. No way would I pay any more for this room during prime season time. Maybe once it's the Travelodge it will improve.
