The only issue I had was the fact that the hotel sign was covered due to the upcoming changeover to Travelodge. As a result and since I was not using an actual address - just using visuals having a rough idea of where the hotel was - it took me an additional 20 minutes or thereabouts to finally locate the hotel. The hotel itself was fine. It was clean and comfortable.

The hotel was clean, we were very disappointed that were charging us a 200$ security deposit on top of our $181 room! I have never been charged that much 50$ in Niagara falls! and at a way better hotel not a hole in the wall hotel!

We only stayed for a night and never again will I book at this motel.
the staff was not polite. The Manger does not have a pleasing personality to explain details about the billing. The breakfast was controlled as is you are stealing from them!

This 'motel' is very poorly run - mismanaged and not worth the trouble to stay in. If there was a lower rating then 1 being terrible it would quailify.

When we first arrived we asked to view a room as we were a little uneasy about the location and condition of the hotel - the room seems okay - a few things out of place but nothing we couldnt manage to get over.

Later in the evening we had a maintenance issue with the room - the toilet had plugged. We informed the front desk of the situation and they would not bring a plunger to the room stating that we would lose our damage deposit if we didnt come to the front desk and locate a plunger. I've stayed in many hotels and never been asked to come collect and plunge my own toilet. When the water started coming over the top of the toilet the front desk staff advised we would be losing out 200$ incidental fee - Excuse me, this is clearly a maintenance issue and should have been handled forthwright by the hotel.

An hour later after the toilet was flooding the hotel owner barged into our room threatening us with physical violence for arguing with his daughter the night audit lady for the toilet issue. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH - we called the RCMP who had to come mitigate the situation - we got our damage deposit and money back and relocated to the Delta Grande Okanagan Resort and Conference Centre - best decision -

Avoid this Hotel! - at all cost

Once everyone discovers the value they receive with this gem, it'll be hard to get a room there! It's a family-owned and operated motel and they have been renovating with a sophistication you seldom find in a motel. They have used high-end materials and a great design plan that makes you feel like you're in the lap of luxury for a small price. We were on a road trip and had only planned to stay one, maybe two, nights in Kelowna and move on but we were so comfortable there that we made it our home base for four nights. We got a really good sleep on comfortable mattresses, it was quiet and we felt safe with Dave (the owner/mgr.) working the night shift. Dave, his daughter and staff were always pleasant and very attentive to our needs, and everything was SO clean. The included breakfast was exceptional for a motel this size, with fresh fruit every day and waffles! Excellent coffee too. One note: as I said---they are renovating---and, lucky for us travellers, they are doing the rooms first, then they will do the exterior (right now it doesn't look so good on the outside--- not bad--- just not gorgeous like the inside). We found the location perfect for our driving tours of the Okanagan and were also pleased to find that the motel is located close to the airport as next time we visit the area we will fly there and want to stay at this HOJO beauty again! Hopefully there will be a room available!! :)

Upon check in we were pre-authorized an extra $200 for our stay. When I inquired about it, the man at the desk, who I would presume is the owner/manager of the hotel, gave me a look like "yeah duh" and told me it was standard for incidentals. Standard, yes, but $200 is steep. I assume he did this because we were young and were planning on staying over new years and he assumed we were going to trash his hotel by throwing a rager. No, we were here to take in some wineries, sir.

He gave us our room keys which had our room numbers written in sharpie on them. My fear was that if I lose a card somebody can enter my room at night. It seemed like a great inconvenience for him to wipe that off. He did, however, make sure to tell us to bring the keys back at the end of our stay otherwise we would be charged $5 for a new key. We didn't realize our keys were made from gold.

We checked into our room and checked it over. I counted five hairs in the bathtub. The paint is peeling from the walls. Spider webs all over the windows. A few hours later our toilet plugs, which was my fault. I called the desk asking for a plunger and the girl, who I later found out was the man's daughter, told me that they don't have any plungers and that because I had plugged the toilet they would be charging me my $200 damage deposit. So I asked to speak to the manager and was told he was not available. A plunger should have been delivered to my room. I did not ask you to plunge the toilet, I asked for you to bring me one so I can do it myself. I asked for some customer service. After we argued with her to find a solution, the manager stormed into our room, slammed the door behind him, and told us we threatened his daughter by saying we wanted better service. Fine. So we got the police involved, who were able to get my $200 back.

We took our business to the Delta Grand and had such an amazing stay there, I don't even know why I booked at the Hojo in the first place. Whoever that man was should not be running hotels.

I would like to report a deplorable situation that happened last Saturday night.I had made a reservation to stay at Howard Johnson situated @2639 97 Hwy N, Kelowna,BC.

While traveling to Kelowna I got stuck in a terrible snow storm .I tried to cancel my reservation and was told that I was going to be billed in full .I decided to continue on and arrive to the hotel in Kelowna at approximate 23:00 .

To my great surprise I was told that my reservation was cancelled and I would have to make a new one . After a long discussion I was told that my reservation (which was paid in full )would be respected . I was then asked for a $ 200 deposit ! After another long discussion I was told that there was no other option . 2 of my credit cards were declined and I was told that they would do me a ''favour'' and accept a $ 200 cash deposit ...which I got from one of the cards that was declined ...I finally checked in at midnight....

To my horrendous surprise I found dirty and smelly hallways and a room where there was not a total of $ 200 of value ! Smell of smoking would actually be welcomed ! Being extremely tired after such an exhausting trip I,I decided to stay anyways.Unfortunately , I got woken up at 3:00 AM by a loud party on my floor .I called front desk and got no answer .This continued until 6:00 AM when the noisy group finally decided to check out .At this moment I finally reached the front desk where the person in charge told me ''Look buddy we already had a problem with you at check in '' .I have NEVER been spoken like this in ANY hotel in the more than 80 countries I have visited in my life .I went down to complain person , where I found a locked door . then called the front desk to compali again and was told to wait until 7:30 AM until th lobby opened !!!

While waiting for the lobby to open I received a visit from the Police , who I thought were called in because of the raucous of the party ,but to my great surprise they were called in by the rude front desk woman in order to evict me !!

I have never ,ever been so humiliated in my whole life. Even though this Howard Johnson is a disgraceful, dirt, smelly over priced ''hotel'' , that throws out a guest because he complains of not having been able to get a shut eye of sleep . Keep away !!!!!

the management informed us upon our arrival that someone had smoked heavily in our room and they would discount it by $10. This was unacceptable due to the stench. We were offered a much smaller room that would not fit our family and there were informed there were no cots available. They informed us they were not full, so we requested if they could give us 2 rooms for the original price of the very large room as it was later and we had an event to attend to. They would only offer a discount on the price of 2 rooms...thereby would be making money off of the fact someone had smoked in our previously booked room. When we said we could not stay there then, they informed us they would not charge us for the night as we booked it on-line and they had a right to charge us! Unbelievable that they would even consider that an issue. I was very disappointed in the customer service as that late at night I am sure their rooms were not booking up and we were left looking for a place to accomodate us in the same price range.

We were lured in by the false sense of security that the Howard Johnson name carried, thinking that we would be staying at a family friendly location, however we found ourselves in a disastrous dump. Prior to our stay at this place we called in advance to specify that we would need an extra clean room for our one year old Asthmatic son. We were assured that the room was newly renovated and clean.

When we pulled into this run down place, we were extremely confused by the very dark parking lot that we could not even see across (we felt a little worried about our safety). Too make matters worse, the parking lot and sidewalk surrounding the building was like a graveyard of old furniture and carpets (not very safe for small children to even walk). We were even more confused to walk into the main doorway and see that "Wayside Inn" or something to that effect was still etched into the main window (we kind of thought that before having a grand opening, the old name would have been removed! Makes good business sense! Don't you think?)

Going against our initial impression of the hotel, as we had already prebooked a room, and it was very late, we decided to see what surprises our room would hold for us... hoping for something half decent! (after all it was recently renovated!) Well, we had our surprise all right! The "completely renovated" room, actually was just the bathroom. The furniture, carpet and bedding all looked as if it was original from when the place was first built! (old and hardly the clean carpet we needed for our infant asthmatic son!) To make matters worse, we could hear multiple conversations from our different neighbours through the walls and people's footsteps in the hall. Even though, it was eleven o'clock at night by this point we decided to leave for the safety of our son's health. We would rather have had no room that night than this one!

When we went to the desk to complain, we were told there was no way the room was not clean as it had been "gutted" and completely redone (it was very obvious that this was not the case!) We were treated very rudely and did not even get a refund! The management was even worse than the hotel itself!!!) By the way we did find a brand new hotel with modern everything for $10 more across the street!

However, Howard Johnson the chain did come through and resolved this issue, so our complaint is only with this location!

Stayed two nights en route to Vancouver. Thought it would be fine given the HoJo name but this place is a dump. The room was cramped, dated and dirty. The bathroom looked renovated but not the best workmanship. The A/C unit was clunky and totally inadequate to cool the room - we roasted all night (didn't help we were on 2nd floor). Very poor sound insulation - could hear highway even though we were at the back AND could hear people walking in hallway. Staff was friendly enough but completely unknowledgeable about the area when asked something as simple as "where are the nearby beaches". The free breakfast consisted of day-old muffins, only 4L of juice for all the guests and apples/bananas. Even after "renovations" I can't see this place being up to HoJo standards. My advice for those enticed by the cheaper prices - Pay the extra $10/night and stay at other hotels nearby. This place is NASTY.

Sorry I missed your question. I don't remember having to leave a deposit. And if I did I didn't use a credit card as I always use cash or debit.
