Great hotel, nice food, great location

Reviewed Jul 31, 2021
We stayed in Royal Anna in the end of July for one night and we will return there again. The hotel is located very close to Kelowna’s sandy beach, which was improved recently and maybe is one of the best in Canada and to the Kelowna’s park. The staff was very friendly and the room was clean and nice. Hotel also offers complementary continental breakfast, which was very good quality and decent variety of food. The sister restaurant: O’Flannigan Irish pub gives you 20% discount for the food if you stay in the hotel. We didn’t use this discount at the end, because food was very good and prices were more than reasonable even without any discounts. The only catch for us was to find a parking entrance for the hotel, because most of the streets around are closed for vehicles, so you will need to look for small back alley between hotel and the bar.

Dear Beachvacationer75,

Thank you very much for being our guest & for sharing your feedback with Tripadvisor. Your comments & personal observations go a very long way for independent hotels, such as us.

If I could expand on just one aspect of your review, I would just like to point out that Bernard Avenue will only be inaccessible for traffic until September 7th. After labor Day, Bernard Ave, will again be open for traffic & our loading zone will once again be available for guest use.
In the meantime, guests should take the one way alley, behind the hotel, park in our overflow parking lot, that displays signage stating "for registered guests of the Royal Anne Hotel" (Do NOT park behind CIBC). There is a breezeway between the hotel & the CIBC, that will provide access to Bernard Avenue & the entrance to the hotel. That's it! Easy peezie.

Until next time....safe travels & thank you again for being our guest!!

Warm regards,
Christa Park ~ Hotel Manager

Was looking for a hotel close to lakeside waterfront, with onsite parking and breakfast

Found The Royal Anne Hotel online at a very reasonable price

Booked a room with 2 Queen beds

Book in at hotel was seamless with the very pleasant manager ?Chrysta/Krista on duty

All Covid protocols adhered to on registration

Great size room, with small balcony, overlooking a nice shopping area around the hotel

Literally steps from the front door to the park that runs alongside the lake

Underground secure parking

As Covid restrictions were in process of provincial health order change, breakfasts were not being served in dining area
Breakfast is included in room price

Instead we were able to collect a bagged breakfast from reception, and as much coffee/tea etc needed from the breakfast room

Beds very comfortable, plenty of nice towels in bathroom
Shower worked very well

Had an issue with TV on arrival, pressed incorrect button on remote!
Call to front desk, unable to fix remotely, so masked staff member came to room immediately to reconnect

Recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a nice quiet well run hotel, adjacent to all the restaurants/waterfront , that provides breakfast and parking included in price

We will return to this hotel in the future

Highly recommend The Royal Anne Hotel

My spouse and I just got back from this wonderful hotel. We had booked a room with 2 queen beds, but messaged the hotel in advance, as we were celebrating our 7th year anniversary. The Manager Christie sent me a message immedietly, congratulating us, and said she was going to upgrade us to one of their nicer Queen size rooms on the 5th floor with a view of the Lake. How nice.

Upon checking in, Christie was the actual person who checked us in. She was warm and friendly, informative about her hotel and the surrounding areas. She even gave us a nice bottle of red wine and big congratulations for our special day. So thoughtful.

Our room indeed had a wonderful view of the lake. It was a nice room, with all the necessary ameneties for a comfortable stay. I found the bed quite comfortable. The climate control is one of the best I've seen in a hotel. It is one unit, which controlled the heat and coolness. The air conditioner worked amazingly well. It wasn't loud at all.

This hotel even offered a breakfast each morning. With covid, they could only provide a bagged breakfast, but it contained a boiled egg, juice box, granola bar, apple, and muffin. More than enough to get our day going. ( I saw the breakfast room; looked quite nice. I imagine they had a nice breakfast when covid wasn't here) Still, appreciate the effort, as many hotels don't even offer a breakfast. (and for the price we paid per night, really generous)

I would also like to comment on the parking. Its free!!! This is a downtown hotel. Most downtown hotels in larger cities charge $20 or more dollars per night. It is included here!!!!! I've read comments from other travellers that there is minimum parking space available. This appears to be true, but we had no issue, as we used our car daily.

The hotel itself felt warm and cozy. Christi made us feel like we were staying with friends. I didn't feel like a number here. All the staff were especially warm and welcoming.

Having worked in the hotel business for 12 years myself, I can appreciate good service and a well run clean hotel. I've got to say I was impressed with this property.

As for the location...wow. Its right in the middle of the downtown district, short walk to the water front walkway and beach areas. Restaurants and shopping all surround this property. My bank was even just across the street. You couldn't ask for a better convenient location.

Loved this hotel. Will definitely be back. Big thank you to Christie for making us feel so welcome!!!

Everyone was very accommodating.
It was very clean and Covid safe. They had a nice packed breakfast for you in the morning.
My room was lovely, it was just a shame I couldn’t stay longer.
Would definitely return!

The team at The Royal Anne are super friendly and very accommodating on requests. The location is great as you are within walking distance from eateries, shops, the waterfront and even Knox mountain park. We enjoyed a good night's sleep with black out curtains and a very comfy bed. The room is very clean and complimentary breakfast was served in a to-go bag. We had a decent view of the lake and mountain. The complimentary parking is a great added value but there is limited space. I would however recommend that when checking in that the parking bays in front of hotel are reserved for check-in guests, as the actual parking garage is located around the block. Or possibly communicate to guests where to park ahead of check-in. Then the lobby area is a cramped space, and there was a large group checking-in on the same evening we did, this resulted in us standing too close to each other. I would also recommend that the hotel consider a renovation in the near future as the lamps, bathroom fixtures, curtains, furniture and burgundy colour scheme is a bit dated. Overall it is a great value for money stay that offers everything you would need for a good night's rest in Kelowna!

Good day Petite-Bouffant,

Thank you very much for being our guest in November, and for taking time out to post your very thorough review.

As many guests book reservations online these days , you're right, parking options are only briefly outlined in our property description. We have little choice about our property descriptions & the amount of information we can provide, unfortunately.
With that said however, often times guests will call us direct as they're pulling into town, to review check-in & parking procedures. We're happy to provide the information & do whatever we can to ease the process of your check-in.

In regards to your observations about the hotel (guest rooms) needing a renovation, please note that our guest rooms have all been completely renovated over the past 3 years. Due to the age & history of the hotel, we chose a classic, rather than contemporary or very modern decor. The 'burgundy' color scheme you've pointed out, is actually only about 2 years old. and the champagne black-out drapery...maybe 3 years old. Guest room furniture....5 years old. Bathroom fixtures are slightly older but certainly less than 10 years old.

As a side note, our lower lobby area is a compact area as you've pointed out....but there is another level to the lobby, where guests can easily meander for a few moments to avoid any congestion during check-in or check-out processes.

Overall, that you found great value for the money spent & enjoyed a good night's sleep, is truly the most important thing.

Stay well & happy New Year to you!

Warm regards,
Christa Park ~ Hotel Manager ~ Royal Anne Hotel
