Review of Rooms Negril
Reviewed Jul 29, 2022
First of all, we had reserved a room with a view on the garden but they gave us a room with view on the Ocean wich was amazing. The view was just incredible and we we're directly on the beach. There is a private beach at rooms wich is cool. The AC was super powerful and worked great. The shower always had hot water and was big enough to be two in it wich was perfect for us.

They have security 24/7 and they are all very helpful. The staff is very nice and professional. The server at their restaurant remembered my order super quick and was so sweet, it was a joy to see her every morning. The food was always excellent with big portions.

We had room service everyday so the room was always super clean wich is great because you basically live on the beach so there is sand everywhere. They changed the towels everyday. The staff was so nice, they always asked if we we're okay and if we needed anything. There was cats on the premise and we fell in love with them. It was so cool to have them greet us every morning.

There is a bunch of restaurants that are close(plenty 5 minutes or less away from the resort), we went to Woodstock wich has super tasty banana daiquiris and good food & Coletta's had the best fried chicken i've ever eaten. Rick's café is a 10 minute car ride and downtown is 5 minutes away. So plenty of cool stuff close.

We went to Negril to snorkel, the beach right in front of us had stingrays, barracudas, tinys Sergent major's, you have to check further or where there is small instalations, like bowe's, cords or a brick. You can take a boat to go to the reef or booby cay island.

So finally, if you are looking for a cheap trip with paradise views, good food, good time, comfort and chill people, go to Rooms in Negril !

Plus:If you like Raggae you will be served.
Plus 2 : One special thing about Negril, is that it is SO clean, like there is not a cigarette butt or anything on the ground. Much cleaner than most places I've been.

Reviewed July 8, 2022

I have deleted my previous review as I had a think and thought it was a little too harsh to be fair.

LOCATION: This hotel has the best location L, it is footsteps from the bluest water I have seen. It is great location for bars and restaurants too with live reggae shows going on right next door at Woodstock and Roots Bamboo. At the other side of the road opposite the hotel you can find a few restaurants and stores, and The Jungle night club is just a few mins walk with so many jerk chicken stands outside which are amazing!

CLEANLINESS: I had no issues with my room at all, housekeeping would come everyday and on days that I didn’t think I needed the cleaners to clean my room I had to sign a form to say that I didn’t want the cleaning for that day. They were very efficient with clean towels daily if I wanted.

ROOM: My room was great, I had a huuuge comfy bed, a balcony, a tv with so many cable channels, iron and ironing board, hairdryer, a coffee machine, ice bucket, safe, soap, phone, aircon plus you can rent a fridge if you need it. I was more than happy with my room.

STAFF: Most of the staff were friendly enough especially the lady that serves the breakfast, she is lovely and works very hard. I only had an issue with one member of staff, when I asked if he would mind helping me bring a sunbed over the little wall that separates the hotel and the beach so I could be closer to the water his reply was “No I am not your servant” I thought this was rude and unprofessional, I didn’t want for him to think that I thought of them as servants I only wanted help with the sunbed as I was alone, and I would have tipped at the end of the holdiay but for that reason I didn’t. For a TUI hotel, which I always stay at TUI hotels, this was the first time I’ve been spoken to like that, being a guest somewhere that you have paid £870 for the holiday for just one week and one of the staff treating you this way is shocking!

FOOD: The continental breakfast is not a buffet style like is stated on the TUI website, it comes out already plated for everyone. I thought the breakfast was nice and more than enough for me as you have a boiled egg, 2 toast. Jam. Butter, coffe, orange juice, cereal, banana bread a bowl of fruits and a glass of milk. But it is limited to one portion of everything, though I had an extra cup of coffee. The alacarte restaurant as stated on the TUI website was not open for either lunch or dinner through my stay. After breakfast there was no food served at the hotel.

FACILITIES: The pool was not open once during my stay they were still waiting for it to be maintained, so no cooling off swimming in the pool in that heat for people who didn’t like to swim in the sea. There was nothing for kids to do here, it is more of an adult hotel. The bar closes at 9pm each night which is a shame as it is a lovely little spot overlooking the beach for people who don’t like to venture out. There is a little gift shop at reception area and a gym.

I really enjoyed Negril it is one of the most beautiful places ever. On my last night however I was robbed on the beach walking from roots bamboo down to bourbon which is about 10 minute walk, I was with a few others from the hotel. Luckily I wasn’t hurt and all they had was my bag and some money and bank card which I cancelled. But this was partly my fault as it is not a good idea to walk the beach at night, if you want to go anywhere at night just get a taxi with a well known driver, join one of the groups for Negril on Facebook and you will be recommended so many trustworthy drivers from other tourists. Jamey the security guard that was working that night at the hotel was so nice and helpful. But the incident was nothing to do with the hotel it was outside. I’m just letting people know not to walk the beach at night even with a gang of people like I was.
Overall I would recommend this hotel for solo travelers like myself who are not looking for the posh five star experience, but a clean room.. fantastic location and a feel safe place to stay. And I would stay here again. This hotel has soooo much potential too it could be one of the best in Negril, but I do understand that covid has affected so many businesses, it’s just for a TUI hotel and the price it’s lacking a little, but it’s nowhere as bad as some say on here, like my review states.

THIS HOTEL DOES NOT MEET BASIC CUSTOMER’S EXPECTATIONS.
Many things are either broken, falling apart or haven’t been fixed.
Our room wasn't done 3 days out of 10. We had to ask the housekeeper to do it !!
ROOMS: NO FRIDGE. If you want one you had to RENT IT. No toiletries in our washroom. Shower did not work properly, door to the patio, locks broken and bent, drawer (must be 200 years old), battery of remotes controls, low!!
SWIMMING POOL: The cover of the filter was broken and cracked, I just about got hurt walking through it. Gym: Closing 1 window, a piece of glass fell off and broke into pieces !!!I Found a pipe broken leaking a lot of water, I told the "maintenance man”!! BREAKFAST... It should be a buffet, but the way is served, not great.

The PANDEMIC is not an excuse to NOT FIX BASIC THINGS IN THE HOTEL, WITH SUCH GOOD LOCATION AND POTENTIAL. WHERE IS MANAGEMENT?? Who is running this place ?
I WOULD BE ASHAMED OF MYSELF !!!! WHY NOT USE ALL THE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK FROM ALL THE CUSTOMERS, TURNE IT ARROUND AND USE IT CONSTRUCTEVELY TO LEARN AND IMPROVE EVERYTHING IN THE HOTEL ??
Most of the staff did not look enthusiastic, rather sad or in low mood. THE MANAGER SHOULD LEARN HOW TO MANAGE, HOW TO CREATE AN EXCELENT WORK ENVIROMENT, AS IF IT DOESN'T, WILL KEEP LOSING CUSTOMERS.
The 1 good thing was the lady front desk receptionist. Outstanding customer service, enthusiastic very professional and problem solver.
The hotel should make sure to keep her !!

Absolute hellhole. Rooms dated, no hot water, no balcony/terrace, overlooked 2 massive Gas tanks. Towels given were threadbare & discoloured. Pool was disgusting, not cleaned or ph tested in months, algae around the waterline, dirt & sand in the pool, bird droppings around & in the pool & lights hanging out under water, waterborne disease waiting to happen. Bins not emptied on the private beach entire time we were there, empty bottles, cans, cigarette ends & Infested with sandflies my partner was bitten several times even though she was covered in insect repellent. Breakfast consisted of a black egg, overripe mini banana mouldy banana bread. Dinner is NOT offered as stated on the website we booked on, no WiFi, TV didn't work, safe broken, kept awake past midnight by Woodstock & Roots bars next door then woken at 3am every morning by cockerels & dogs barking. I would not like anyone to go through what we went through so just do not book here. Only good thing about the place is the staff, felt quite sorry for them. The Manager would not even come out of her office to speak to us which was cowardly. Just don’t go here, there are much nicer boutique hotels along the beach at a reasonable price.

Dear saz66,

We are surprised to learn about this experience.

Feel free to send us an email at hm.rnn@superclubs with the dates of your travel so that we can investigate these claims.

Did you request to check out early?

Did you travel your travel agent?

Operational challenge do exist from time to time, we wont lie about that, but we still pride ourselves in maintaining a clean hotel and providing presentable linen.

The wifi upgrade which we mentioned in previous posts began over a month ago and some guests have reported an improvement. However due to an underground cable which was damaged build 6, 4, ground floor 7 will be upgraded before the end of the month once the cable repair is completed. The lobby, other room blocks, pool, beach restaurant, beach bar are fully operational.

ISSUES:
-No hot water for 3 days due to a “burst pipe”.

-No water AT ALL for 2 days, and the courtesy room they provided – we weren’t even given a key. They propped the door open with a book. UNACCEPTABLE.

-Key cards repeatedly not working, constantly having to go to reception to get the cards reprogrammed almost everyday.

-Broken air conditioning.

- Staff asking for money and items like clothing, laptop, beer…

- Operations supervisor picking her nose and then serving food in the kitchen.

- Kitchen only partly operational – lunch served maybe every other day if you’re lucky. Even though it’s advertised that you can order lunch at the bar on the beach.

-Bar staff – Velma – asking us to bring our disposable plastic cups back to be washed and reused.

-Sexual Harassment – Hebert – contractor on site who we saw verbally sexually harassing receptionist. There were 2 receptionists when we arrived and after several days one of them quit. Management is aware of the sexual harassment but does nothing.

- THEFT – Operations supervisor Gay Ann, entered our room without our permission and stole $20 US that was sitting on the counter between 9:20am when we went for breakfast and 10:40am when we returned. She admitted to us in the room that she entered to check our broken air conditioning unit, which we had complained about before going to breakfast. She denied in front of security. So the $20 dollar bill grew legs and walked away on it’s own?? It’s not the amount, it’s the principle. If she was that desperate for the money she could have done what the other staff do – and ask for it.

-Our referred guests left after 1 night because there was no hot water and no communication on when it would be fixed.

- Another couple left for the RIU hotel after they figured out that someone was in their room and using the husband’s aftershave.

-Another couple also had money go missing from their room, and they thought that perhaps it might have been stolen while they were off the resort.

-Staff never have change. Our friend had to buy $20 worth of water at the beach bar because they didn’t have change and he got sick while at the resort.

-Security who is asking for money and food at the gate, is also asking what room you are in when you leave…. But doesn’t care to ask what room you’re in when you return…. Very suspicious. Seems like they keep tabs on when you’re not in the room.

-Poor management: Ms. Grant did not once reach out to us after we complained about the operations supervisor entering our room and taking the $20. Instead, their “internal investigation”, accused us of misplacing the $20 and that they had interviewed other staff and guests who said they had seen us leaving with $20 to purchase cigarettes. RIDICULOUS. We brought more than one $20 bill with us on vacation.

Ms Grant was more preoccupied with having her operations manager show the “best rooms” to Air Canada representatives who were viewing the site, than to deal with our situation. We had to face this THIEF every day for the remainder of our trip.

After everything that happened at this resort, I would NEVER go back and strongly discourage anyone from staying there. You’ll get disrespected and robbed by staff.

From the manager not caring to deal with theft on her property because they’re so understaffed, to the bar staff singing “praise the lord” the day you’re leaving… nothing but DISRESPECT.

Dear April T,

We appreciate the fact that you chose to return to Rooms Negril and also to recommend friends.

We deeply regret that the issue of the hot water on building 6 resulted in your two friends changing hotels and you being discomforted for 3 days of your stay. However, we must remind you of two facts (1) we offered a room change and you opted to stay in this room because it was your favorite oceanfront room. (2) In your emails correspondences we informed you that we were experiencing some issues on building 6 and therefore room 2604 may be unavailable. You insisted that you will take the room even without the hot water.

When you reported the missing $20, both the security supervisor and the police investigated the report. Suffice it to say that the investigation did not confirm your allegations but suggested that you may have misplaced the $20 which you seen searching for at the breakfast.

We noted your other comments regarding the staff members and it is unfortunate that you chose besmirch the reputation of the employees in this forum.

We communicated a lot by email and phone, prior to your arrival. We spoke on a few occasions while you were here; which indicates that we are open for dialogue and will try to honor requests or address issues. However, if not giving you EVERYTHING you demand, will result in posts of this nature…” Praise the lord”

We had a lovely stay at Rooms, there were a few issues but nothing to spoil our stay, the staff especially Maisie at breakfast were so friendly and welcoming. Security looked out for us and even came out of the grounds to check we were ok one night. The room was spacious and bed was comfy, the main issue was with the water pressure it was no more than a trickle some days but we managed. Housekeeping could be improved they would come if asked but the standard was not very good. For us the location was perfect, we come to Negril for the beach, music, people and food and Rooms has everything in walking distance. We can’t wait to come back and would stay at rooms again at the right price

Room tip: Athea next to Alfred’s best massage. Boat bar for great live music and Roots Bamboo. Good food at Alfred’s and Miss Sonia’s
